I don't concur at all, in fact I think all this "advice" is ********. No one can tell you what you should or shouldn't want. If you want a better machine, and have the money to spend on it, you might as well go to an Apple store and ask a manager to please let you swap for a new model. The worst that can happen is he'll say no, but you have nothing to lose, and feel better about actually trying. You don't have to "cope" just because some strangers on the internet told you you're **** out of luck. If you really want the updated MBPs, sell yours as fast as you possibly can, and use the money to buy a new one. Why be stuck with outdated technology when new models might be released in a few days? Just my opinion on the
matter.

It's true nobody can tell you what you should or shouldn't want, but nobody has tried to do that. The general advice has been just to be happy with what he has rather then spend more money on spec updates that he probably won't even notice or use.

It's good advice IMHO.

i really like your friendly attitude...forget i asked.

If any of "these" nice people were in the same boat you are they would want to do the same!

I feel for you but Apple's rules are very clear. I am lucky and just bought my new MBPro 15 on Saturday and will still be paying the restocking fee.

It would have been nice if the nice Apple salesperson told me that new units would be out in a couple of days but then I understand

No. I would continue to enjoy my awesome computer.

The Apple salespeople aren't aware of upcoming releases until they are officially announced. Some of them know even less than us, and some of them only know what we know, because like us, they learn it from sites like this.

You've been a member here since February. You have no one but yourself to blame for buying on Saturday if you would rather have one of the upcoming machines.

Ok so rumor has it that a new MBP will come out this week. I bought my MBP on March 12. Can I do an exchange with Apple for the current model?? Also what is the price of the 13 inch MBP being refreshed?

no you can not.. suck it up and live with it..

your new mbp is now obsolete

:apple:

I"m sorry to say you bought at a bad time, just as the entire line will step up to a new "plateau" of performance. Sell it asap on Ebay.

And by the way, I've seen the Apple store selling older models on the day of new models being announced, before the new ones are on display. They will NEVER tell you anything about unreleased product.

I actually went on ebay and purposely bought myself an Aluminum Macbook (2.4 GHz) for $1100, knowing that a new MBP update is imminent. This will give you an idea how much you can possibly get selling it on ebay.

For $100 more I could have gotten a new one (2.26GHz), but I chose the Al-MB because of the swappable battery for traveling. As for the new models to be released soon, all indications point to a spec upgrade only (Core i3, i5?). The increase in speed will not be a huge one, and only be measurable by a clock (i.e., not noticeable by users on day-to-day tasks). The appearance is likely to be identical with the current version, given it has just been updated. If you are still going to be jealous that your next door neighbours' new MBP will be faster than yours... go buy yourself a fast SSD and max out your RAM. Now that's gonna be a noticeable speed improvement.

30 days is quite a stretch but it doesn't hurt to ask, call them up if you bought it online... you may catch the right CSR on the right day... or go into an Apple store and be polite and a nice manager may hook you up.... It also helps if you are willing and able to upgrade to the next model up, they are more willing to let you exchange past the return period if you are upgrading to a more expensive model (just say the current one doesn't meet your needs). Good luck to you.

Yea most likely i will do that. I am over the fact a new model is coming out. i will learn to love what I have. btw what is a reliable SSD to upgrade to and RAM? I already have 4 GB (I upgraded from the standard 2 when I got my MBP)

Never bother with ebay for something that moves quickly like a MBP. Go to craigslist and sell it locally - no paypal fees and no ebay fees. Two weeks ago I sold the 13" MBP I bought in September and came out with $50 less than I bought it for.

You won't need any more RAM than 4 GB.:)

I've read that Intel SSD's are very good.

Here's a thread that has a lot of links to SSD specific threads:

oh great! thank you very much. sorry for any ill meaning before. I was wondering what the difference a SSD is from the one that comes with MBP? Its a serial drive or something? I know SSD is a lot more expensive lol

SSD (solid state drive): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-state_drive

You'll get faster load times (including when you start up your computer) and better battery performance with an SDD

The MBP comes with a HDD- it is a disc that spins whenever the computer needs to access information on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_disk_drive

I kept the stock HDD that came with my MBP. I don't feel like upgrading to an SDD will do anything for me that I would notice or care about.

Honestly, if you are really itching to spend money on your MBP, buy a stand or an external monitor, an external keyboard, and a Magic Mouse. Then, when you are using it at your desk, you will be more comfortable.

Don't worry about before...... all is good.

I've been following the forthcoming MBP upgrade for months and knowing full well that it may take place within just weeks, I decided to buy a new 13" MBP 2.53MHz/4GB/250GBHDD model just a week ago.

I'm thrilled with this 13" MacBookPro. 4GB is plenty of RAM to do heavy multi-tasking. I can open a half dozen 50GB Photoshop files at one time and do Photoshop editing effortlessly with this machine, with iTunes, Mail, Firefox, and Lightroom also running.

While I'm always eager to see the new machines, I surely won't be dumping my new MBP any time soon. A small spec bump and a feature tweak here or there will not make the current MBP line any less wonderful than it is.

Unless the money is no object to you and you simply have to have the very latest, very fastest MBP, sit tight and enjoy your new machine. Otherwise, be prepared to spend the money and buy a new machine every time there's a spec bump, which can be a couple of times a year.

i am perfectly calm. what are you talking about. i guess i'll just stick with my MBP, the reason I was wondering was due to how close I bought it but I didn't know about this site til now. The only thing I am remorseful about is how I didn't upgrade my hard drive, but eh thats life and i have an external.

now to cope..

you can easily upgrade your hard drive to a bigger/faster one without voiding the warranty. it tells you how to do it in the manual :)

yep, as Tom said... it's an easy upgrade... I just did it with my new MBPro this week. Popped in a Hitachi 320GB 7200RPM drive and using the removed OEM Hitachi 250GB 5400RPM drive as an external storage drive.

sorry for the slight hijack but had a question regarding the exchange...

In order to return it, did it have to be bought from apple? Or could it have been bought by a 3rd party seller?

why would that matter? Neither Apple nor 3rd party will do an exchange after the return period (14 days for Apple).

I am being friendly. Sorry, do you require more emoticons? Here I'll edit my posts and add some for you.:)

My point for listing those uses is that if that is what you use your MBP for, you wouldn't notice an improvement difference between what you have and the new MBPs.

Would you rather me tell you the opposite, and that you will be missing out on the world if you don't get a new one the second they're released?

Was it wrong of me to smile at this? lol

Some stores will let you exchange your older model if a new model comes out within 30 days. At least my store i go to in California does. So im kind of hoping the new update comes out tomorrow since i bought my laptop on March 17th. But if not i dont care that much. I am still very happy with my new laptop. Plenty of processing power for what i need to do at the moment.

I'd be happy with your MBP,I still only have a MB,though it is the new unibody white, but I would like to have FW and a SD card slot, but this fall I should be getting a 13" 2.53 MBP if they don't update them,I need as fast as possible for college, and they don't allow desktop's in the dorms either.:( So I have to think about a high powered portable.Would prefer a 2.8 15" but don't have enough left over in grants to get a 15" 2.8.

sorry to beat a dead horse but wow..the new MBP DID come out today..I really like the 250GB hard drive and 10 hour battery, that is something I would've definitely taken advantage of..

well you can upgrade the HD yourself AND for cheaper than what Apple charges. Also, 10 hour battery is nice, but i travel with my 2.5GHZ 15" classic and i have no problems finding power for it before the 4 hours.

I understand that you are disappointed that you couldn't wait three weeks, but I am sure you knew an update was coming soon. I bought mine the day the unibodies were released. Saved $1000. And i like the looks of mine better than the uni (hate the look with the black keyboard)

actually i am a major noob with Macs, I've been with PCs my whole life and this MBP was my first. The only thing of Apple I owned before was the iPhone and iPod. It just feels like a slap in the face about this deal. I had no idea about the cycles for Macs and everyone was always saying that a new one was coming out soon and this one time was a lucky shot.

I know the 13 inch didn't receive as much upgrades as the 15 and 17 inch but the battery and hard drive are a killer for me. The thing I guess I can do is go to the Apple Store and see what happens. I don't expect much but its better than to wonder.

I really wish I knew about this site before buying my Mac! But then again this was a birthday present, i couldn't really ask them to hold on til the new models come out.
