I'm in the US so I may have a different perspective, but I'd love to nail the crook and would contact the Sheriff's office (main number on web site) and cooperate fully.

I understand people have different financial situations but I would not continue using a stolen phone under any circumstances and probably would just send it to the police as evidence if they wanted it. I would sleep a lot better.

But the thing is, did apple say it was stolen or just this "sherrif".

I would call apple first to confirm. He said he never finished filling out the form for the extension, so how would this sheriff even know? Dont you think apple would contact him first before involving the police?

Call the main sherriff's office phone number and try to reach the guy that way. If they put you through then it's legitimate.

Just call the main number and ask if there is a detective by that name. If not, you can tell them someone is posing as an officer.

If you just did nothing that would be the end of it, but I'd want to know what's going on. If it's a scam you should figure out how they got the information on you.

thats exactly what i am thinking!!!!!
the only problem is that i paid a lot of money to just leave the phone without a refund or replacement :(

i didn't finish the process of extending the warranty
what i did tho was to link the serial number with the apple id
and after a few hours
i got this email
and believe me i am the only one knowing the serial number
well me and apple!

Possibilities:
1) you are pulling our chain
2) the seller had all the info thus he is in on this ;)
3) you went to a non official site for registration and they got the info

you can always forget about it...

1. didn't get that due to my non native speaking capabilities:)
2. the seller is no longer on ebay!!!!!
3. i was def on apple website when wanting to extend the warranty since apple is my dafault page:)
i know all these sound weird to you
trust me they sound weird to me too... :(

Did you say the seller lives in Colorado? If this is the case, then the eBay seller is probably doing this themselves and is trying to get their phone back. Since you live in Greece, there isn't much to worry about. The police here have better things to do than investigate a possible stolen iPhone on the other side of the planet.

how can he know tho my serial number when the iPhone was sealed??

What I find is weird is... ho would the "detective" get the serial number? Apple is not supposed to give out info like that... I think... I might talk to someone at the Apple store to clarify, I suppose. Also, you should be able to verify some info on the detective through his police branch.

But... in the end... does any of that really matter? You have a phone, and it works... so keep using it. If you're in Greece, a U.S. cop is not going to pursue for anything... This all seems shady to me...

yeah i know
but
in case i wanna get an iPhone 5 i have to sell this
and cos this phone is an atandt one..means that i have to sell it in the US which means...all possibilities gone!!!
thats why i don't like all this!

I'm sure that if you contact Apple and let them know what happened they will issue you a refund or maybe an apple gift card if you return the phone to them

the only department that i found the number to call is the technical department which they told me they can't do anything about that
either them or generally speaking

Do not try to sell this phone! You have been informed that it is stolen. Knowingly selling stolen merchandise is a serious offense. Do the right thing and contact the Sheriff's office. I would think there is a possibility you could be reimbursed if you follow through with it and notify Apple, eBay, paypal etc.

I'm guessing that you thought you were getting a steal (American expression for getting a bargain). What you got was a stolen phone. Chalk it up to experience.

i searched in google and found that tony garza is an american lawyer and former county judge in Texas.BTW im also from greece(ellada ellada)

Someone as successful as Garza (who is a lawyer btw, not a detective) wouldn't give two cares about this.

It's a scam to get your cc or Paypal info linked to your iTunes account. They likely already have it and now want the phone back to scam the next person. Get rid of the phone or contact your local authorities. We can't really help you out on this one much more.

I thought i should extend my iPhones warranty so i went to the apple website and put my serial number and my apple id so the phone was linked to my account. Late i know but better late than never
At the end of the process i regretted and i stopped the process. After 8 hours or so i received an email from the US from a detective. Yes i know i thought yeah ok this is a spam
I didn't even see this before. What website did you go to in order to do this?
