Did PRAM reset twice yesterday without any changes.
SMC reset today lead to faster bootup but graphic glitches still remain.

edit : I just reinstalled 10.8.4 via Rescue Partition over the current install. So far the glitches are gone.

It has only happened twice since my Mountain Lion reinstall.

I have a feeling it's a driver issue. If not, I've got AppleCare so I have a few years to replace it!

Very good to know!

But if other MBA owners are not seeing this, then its probably not a driver issue. That is if this a bug in a driver then the issue would be more widespread but it seems that except for another member no one else is experiencing it (unless I missed them in the thread).

Personally, if it were my laptop and it was doing it. I'd not wait to see if a software update would address this but rather take it to apple.

At the very least it will be documented in the system and if things go south later you can point to the issues you had with the laptop. It just my opinion but given the price of these computers I'd not put up or wait if its behaving erratically

The glitches are back now .

I'm still convinced that this is a driver issue, since the pixel boxes are not static but always over the same icons / content.

And no issues if I boot in safe mode, where only standard drivers are loaded (ui lags with these drivers, so I'm pretty sure they are not the specific HD5000 drivers).
I'm about to install 10.8.5 beta 1 now and will report back.

Cool. Thank you for testing! Let us know, please.

Others are seeing it. I do agree, though, for the price, it should be perfect (or close to). So I'll be keeping in contact with Apple.

So far no glitches with 10.8.5, but I will report back tomorrow.
I wouldn't recommend this update to those who rely on bluetooth devices.
Bluetooth is sometimes not recognized with this beta, but if the graphic issues are not appearing with this build, I will keep the machine.
Otherwise I have 10 more days left to return the machine for a new one.

Btw it's quite scary to use a dead silent notebook. I'm not used to have a SSD only machine with no fans going off so easily.
What I noticed compared to my old MBP 13" (2010) is that the keyboard is not as good as the Pros. The keyboard is thinner and has a much softer pressure point. The speakers are impressive for this size, but Apple hyped the low and high frequencies, leaving a hole in the mid frequencies, important for vocal understanding.
Music sounds good but watching movies with low volume is quite terrible if you don't boost the 1-2kHz range.

I get a similar problem in Mail on my mid-2011 11".

Not a huge issue, very intermittent.

Just saw that box on my macbook air 11 2013 for a brief second when opening multiple webpages.

I have a big feeling this is a driver issue. More an more people reporting the same thing.

Damn, pixelations are back again after a long sleep.
Exactly the same issue as with 10.8.4

I'm still not sure if this is a software issue or hardware related. Booting in Safe mode shows no issues, whereas booting normally showed glitches.

It somehow occurs only when the MBA is sleeping for a couple of hours. I don't see the hibernation file or RAM as the cause.

Anybody else with major glitches ?

I had some glitches on the first two days but now for couple days there are not anyone

I guess I'll bring mine into the Apple Store today.

Hope this solves your problem :)

What I'm going to try later today is a clean reinstall without migrating my User profile.
Fortunately I still have my old MBP to use.
It's possible that I have a lot of old crappy stuff migrating since 3 macbooks that causes this problem or the color sync profile I installed recently (but have deleted now).

Thanks!

I already did that. Fresh install twice and the problem was still there.

At the Apple Store... It is a hardware issue, they say. I'm getting mine replaced.

Sorry folks.

Did you get the replacement ?
How is it working out for you ?

I also figured out that I have an issue with the loudspeakers. There is another thread explaining the issue.

Eventough I haven't had any glitches yet with a fresh install, I consider returning it if ut turn out that it's really a hardware problem.

The only thing holding me back is my excellent battery with over-average capacity (7450-7500 mAh instead of 7100mAh as design capacity).

I have a BTO machine, so I have to wait for my replacement to come, unfortunately. I'll let you know!

Had the exact same problem. It's a hardware problem. Called apple yesterday and they said i should get a replacement CTO MBA by the 2nd. So its decently quick.

I wiped the drive and reinstalled a clean copy of 10.8.4 from the rescue partiton and migrated only my user folder from a time machine backup. And manually copied some apps from the backup.

Since not every app was working correctly I decided to wipe everything again and to migrate everything from the backup except the computer settings.

The last 2 days were problem free. No more graphic glitches, speakers are working normally and battery life increased.

So I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware but a software issue, even if Apple states otherwise. I don't think that they deeply analyse this problem and just assume that it's a GPU defect, as experienced in the past with some of the Macbook models (i.e. 2008 MBP issues with 8800). I guess that hardware issues will affect more users than the few that posted in this thread.

When I reinstalled Mountain Lion (twice), I didn't migrate anything. I erased my drive completely both times.
