Exactly. So why would they invest money in significantly updating a trusted product that's already recouped it's R&D costs and that's going to be flying off the shelves for the next two months anyway?

Maybe there's a Product Red one in one of the boxes or something.

well, im no marketing guy...
but for a company like apple..pushing higher and higher is the only way. they could stay with their ipod nano for a while and release this ipod touch in november..isnt it?

No. Ditching a perfectly good, established & paid-for design that's still raking in the cash is no way for a company like Apple.

but with a "old" cpu and graphics card? and with such heavy laptop compared to its size? honestly, apple will loose a lot of customers (and loosing) to xps 1330. mac osx is good, but its not everything people want to get. :(

for me for example, im ready for pay for macbook same as the xps 1330 (again) with MBs shoddy graphics card. but if it weight a ton and remains as thick as it is without LED screen, im not gonna spend 1000 pounds... :(

I'm expecting just speedbump, dvd-+rw for all models, gma x3100 not much else.

January we'll see more radical updates if even then.

Hope i'm wrong however :p

:apple::rolleyes:

hmm.. should i start carry my Visa-card with me just in case.

The 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with a SR Chipset is hardly "old". And Apple's stance on proper graphics cards is that if you want one, get a MBP.

And if Apple were releasing ultra-thin laptops between now and Tuesday, we'd already be drooling over the mysterious invitations for the associated "special event".

I am sure that Steve, Jonathan and the gang are secretly bursting to tell us about the all cool new products they've got lined up in the laptop space, and I am sure some of them will be revolutionary. But we won't hear about them this year. They'll just keep us fed with Santa Rosa goodness next week.

It doesn't make sense if they hold the SR chip. That would make the MacBook pro obsolete ...unless there is a new baby on the way there to :)

For those of you who are questioning why Apple would update them now and what that leaves them to update in January....

January is when they will announce the flash based tiny Macbooks to go along side the current range of Macbooks speedbumped in November.

I don't know if I'm right about this, but the day Leopard came out, when all of the people were going into the store and the employees were cheering, a couple of employees were screaming, "New MacBooks" when the UPS guy came through. I thought they were just kidding, but were they?

who knows. but they are here now

White 13.3"
$1099.00 2.0GHz/1GB RAM/80GB/Combo/GMA X3100
$1299.00 2.2GHz/1GB RAM/120GB/SD-DL/GMA X3100

Black 13.3"
$1499.00 2.2GHz/1GB RAM/160GB/SD-DL/GMA X3100

All are the SR chipsets... too bad the prices didn't drop, not even a little bit... but then again it's a good thing Apple didn't raise them on the other hand.

Hmmm, now I wonder if these newly shipped MB's already have Leopard pre-installed (instead of the dropped-in DVD's)?

Don't count on a flash book pro anytime soon. Look at the price of the iPhone and iPod Touch which is only 8gig and 16gig. 120 gig flash would cause the prive of the laptop to double.

NOT HAPPENING....sry

Urm, I dont think anyone (sane) has ever said they will have 120GB of flash. They will have a fraction of that and be sold not as a regular laptop replacement but as something super tiny for people on go who understand the limitations of that.

Steve will be saving any major laptop updates (aluminium, touch screen, ultra-thin, magic trackpad, gold-plated, whatever) for the Expo in January.
Time will tell, but I'll be completely surprised if a consumer portable is announced in January. That would make no sense at all to me.

I don't know about flash-based, but a smaller than 13 inch portable is about all that I can see possibly occurring in January. The new refreshed MacBooks released today won't see an update though.

They are out!!!

Same web page on apple.com different specs! This was a slight upgrade indeed.

I am 90% certain that they would not update the macbooks now or in November, only to give them a new case redesign again at Macworld. That just doesn't make sense.

And for all of you complainers about the 13" form factor. The macbooks are actually the same width as the 14" macbooks due to the enormous waste of space to the sides and the top of the screen frame. I doubt they would ever go 12" again but rather shave off that extra frame, making it feel like a true 13".

The MBP 15" is not much wider and deeper ffs! (Which is why I have ordered one.)

Wow, proved me wrong there.

The thing is there won't be a case redesign at Macworld. That wouldn't make sense, so why do you think that? Now that these refreshed MacBooks are released as expected, that will be it for MacBook's until April or May now.

What about Macbook Pro?

Any news for Macbook Pro?

Are they going to update in January since now the macbook has SR which is currently the Macbook Pro using.
