thanks guys for the mental support guys...i cracked a beer and feeling a bit more relaxed. i'll let you know the outcome.
It's easy to tell someone to relax unless it happened to you. When I saw the thread title I thought it's just another late delivery thread.. I believe the OP.
This happened to me a few years back, I'll never forget this. I was in my office waiting for a part overnighted to me by Dell. Next thing I knew the tracking status updated to business closed, reattempt next day. WHAT??!! I was there the whole time. I called, same story driver said business was closed and a door tag was left. No door tag was left. The guy never showed up.
This repeated TWICE, so THREE times this Fedex driver skipped his route
I gave up and said I'll go pick it up. This was in midtown NYC so I had to waste my time and subway money to go get the package myself. I was angry about that the whole week.
Nothing you can do. My suggestion is just tell them to hold the package and go pick it up yourself or you're not going to have a good weekend.

I, for one, will follow this random jazzman's advice and I shall BOYCOTT FedEx for the rest of my life! I don't care if it they still have a chance to get him the iPad before the day is over! I don't care if it was just a simple and correctable mistake! This devil-like enterprise has cost him at least one hour of precious time with his magical new device! I shall boycott *immediately*!

I have had a several issues with Fedex. They once delivered the wrong package to my house. The address on the box was not even near me. When I called them they said it was IMPOSSIBLE for them to deliver the wrong package because the drivers must scan the box. Hours went by and I still didn't have my package. I called again and they didn't even log my call that I had someone else's box. A different person gave me the same BS that it is impossible for them to make a mistake like that.
Eventually the driver knocked on my door asking if I had a wrong package. He eventually attempted to deliver a box (the one I got) and could not find it on the truck. Fedex never called him about my call! When I asked him about scanning the boxes he said it was very common for them to not use the scanner! I guess they have a way around the system, not sure ....

sovereign, i put the presign in case i got called into work and also i have a newborn and in case some emergency came up/kid screaming and i miss the door.
thanks again for support guys..my fear is they delivered them to wrong house, someone signed for them and opened them up! would you want to receive an opened ipad?! lol i think not.
now fedex claimes that it was signed for by "mistake" by some weird name, and still insist the delivery guy left a door tag, and will attempt another delivery but don't know when exactly. fmll

I saw fed ex pull up and not knowing what they would do, I ran down 5 flights of stairs to meet her. Waited and thought she's taking a long time in the van, turn around and saw her running out my building with my ipad. I chased her down and got it. I said did you ring and she said yes, when I got back upstairs there was the notice so she was in the elevator while I was going down the stairs. That would have been a massive fail on my part it I missed her. They usually call from intercom and just leave notice downstairs. Glad to just have it.
yes let's boycott a company that is essentially a miracle of modern organization- one that can ship items all over the world. Lets demonize them forever because you may have to wait a few hours and go pick up your gadget directly from their warehouse. GOD THEY MAKE ME SO MAD!!!!
Same **** happened to me during the iphone 4S delivery. Shows delivered, but nothing outside my door. Called fedex and they claimed that the driver never makes a mistake. Turns out they delivered it a few houses down my street! very upset and they had the nerve to blame me for not receiving the package. These type of stuff happens occasionally when it's related to apple toys
you can't beat good old USPS. LOL i've sent hundreds of packages with them, they never late, they actually ring the doorbell or knock, and they never F up...well for me anyways.
as far as babies, mine is 6 weeks old, and as much as i'm sleep deprived and the boy loves to poop more than his diaper can handle at 4:30 am, i wouldn't give him up for the world.
btw, when the fedex guy shows up, i'm gonna video tape and question him where the door tag is, who signed for both packages, and get his response. gonna make it not noticable and leave his face out of it, but it should be pretty entertaining.

The two companies I trust most are Apple & FedEx.
Both are exceptional & neither are perfect, nor do I expect them to be.
Thanks to the fine operation FedEx runs, thousands upon thousands of iPads are all being delivered today.
Their is no doubt that some situations will occur, yet I'm sure they will be resolved very quickly.

that ain't cool, dude. reading your post...now, i hope it was delivered to the wrong address and someone is using your ipad right now. it's an imperfect world and there's no delivery service in the world that has a perfect track record.
worst case is you never get the package and wind up getting a refund from the CC company. yeah, the delay would would be disappointing but it isn't the worst thing that can happen.
