Nice thread. "doesn't have all the new features we were expecting," Go work for Apple mate.

The 3G is a nice step forward from the original. I'm buying.

Lines are going to be long as hell..

Because all the people who don't follow the iPhone are going to boycott it as well

is this referencing the boycott or my "nutjobs" comment?

if it is the latter, it is in response to the entire notion of being so unhappy about an upgraded product with reduced hardware price and commensurately increased services cost. If you don't like you don't buy. boycott?

but hey, go for it. :)

Who would really (in their right mind) boycott another revolutionary product from Apple?!

Not me.

I dont see what others were expecting to be in the 3G model. It does, after all, have 3G, GPS, a new firmware coming, App store, MS Office and Exchange support, lower price....etc

I think its that lack of video conferencing many people were expecting.

I just counted and I'm boycotting over 15 million products today that I don't want and/or need by not buying them! Take that!

Good point.

I totally forgot that video chat was going to be an option. You know that apple with release a trimmed version of iChat soon though...

if you don't like something then don't buy it. you can't please everyone. i am very pleased with the 3G specs. I just wish they had red.

I could care less about video conferencing, but then again I'm in the US and barely anyone uses video conferencing, so apologies if my view is rather US-centric. On the other hand, I'm still rather annoyed by the lack of three key features: MMS, copy and paste, and a to-do list. I'm still befuddled on why these aren't in the current or upcoming iPhone. I assume that this will change, but sometimes (imho) Apple does some very strange things and never resolve them.

Perhaps since this latest update was a lot about Enterprise, Apple (maybe) didn't have enough time to tackle those three missing features? I'm hoping. However, I have to think there's gotta be some enterprise folks that are annoyed that there's no task/to-do list syncing. I know some people that practically live off of Outlook's task/to-do lists.

Still, I'll be getting the new iPhone. It's satisfied around 98% of my needs. It's just that missing 2% that's really irking me.

It doesnt seem like to many people are going to do this...

The only thing I was upset about was the wait, But I am over that now. I am going to my brothers house that morning and we will go to all the stores to find them. We dont plan on standing in line but He has 2 Apple store within about 10 mins from his house and AT&T stores all over, so Im pretty sure ill get mine :D

Everyone is going on about copy & paste, MMS, bluetooth etc etc. Yes you've been bitchin about that for a long time, but seriously, it will happen eventually. Its only software. It can be updated.

But, it won't happen eventually. It's pretty clear that Apple doesn't want to implement MMS. Otherwise it would have appeared either at launch or sometime in the YEAR since, or in iPhone OS 2.0. It's not like it's a hard thing to implement, it's just something they chose specifically not to. As for copy/paste, I don't think that's really all that useful *except* for the iPhone's MMS workaround.

Settle down and grow up.

Boohoo. MMS, video recording, copy & paste, and a bunch of that crap you are whining over can just be fixed in software update, which probably will happen soon.

But I can understand why many of the hardware things were excluded, like a camera for video conferencing, an improved camera on the back, a 32GB SSD, stereo bluetooth, and WiFi 802.11n. The addition of 3G and GPS was huge and yes, it would be great if they added all of the other hardware things we wanted. But if they did that, what they update next year? Nothing. Even if you people boycott the iPhone 3G, millions will still buy them. There are many who have already gotten rid of their first generation iPhones and are ready to buy new ones. The few hundred of you people who are PMSing right now won't make a difference with the 70 countries filled with citizens who don't have an iPhone. Not adding everything we wanted is smart, because next year when they add stereo bluetooth, a 3.2 or 5 megapixel camera, a second, front facing camera, and WiFi 802.11n we'll all, even those who have an iPhone, will run out to buy another one again. If there was nothing new to add to, not many people would run out to buy the same phone the next year that just has a shiny new design. And the 32GB problem will be solved like they did with the 16GB model in February and that (RED) one will come out soon, too. I will be one of the people who aren't acting like toddlers or spoiled teenage girls who didn't get everything they want, and get one. And I'll do the same thing next year and the years after that.

"I boycotted the 3G iPhone: 10th June 2008 - 10th July 2008" ?

WWDC keynote was a preview in some people's books. July 11th is the announcement. A boycott before it's been released isn't a boycott really is it?

How about all you haters boycott and make the lines shorter for the rest of us!

What these boycotters don't realise is that they are just playing into Apple's hands. IIRC Apple are planning on around 5,990,000,000 people around the world boycotting the iPhone by the end of this year.

The OP is just doing Apple's dirty work.

1 down, 5,989,999,999 to go? ;)

I think if you're serious about protesting, you at least a chant, if not a song, like London Underground style. And a banner. Maybe some key quote - snippets to quote to people to inform them why the 3G iPhone ain't the real deal?

what's the order of priority of importance of things (currently) missing? What will Nokia and RIM use for their counter campaigns?

Cut and Paste, Flash camera (Sony Ericsson will use this for sure, as they have a strong line in it. Nokia has Carl Zeiss Lenses and 5Mpixel cam so they can use that) etc.
