I don't know what good protesting would do, considering people are already planning for their campouts...

Well, I'm not buying one, so I guess that counts as a boycott. Notupgradimg the firmware of my current iPhone, I won't be purchasing ANYTHING from the app store, or any other other Mac product.

My completly virgin iPhone is getting jailbroken today, and I may consider a T-Mobile service.

10 bucks says you will. A lot of these people complaining on this forum will be out there July 11th getting one. It's the same story every time.

I wish people would stop with the MMS nonsense and instead demand all the other phones catch up with the iPhone and have e-mail where you can send pictures.

That is the future, not MMS. So it is a matter of the other phone makers catching up.

oh no!!!! we will have to start the "degrees of caring" thread again!

What's this supposed to mean?

Do you light candles for Apple every night before you go to bed?

Finally, I'm not one of those "boycotters." I am getting the new iPhone. I am simply voicing my opinion on what is still missing in the supposed "Most Advanced Smartphone." Nothing is perfect, and neither is the Jesus Phone.

So, why include SMS then?

That is completely different.

Explain to me how this is any different? MMS is nearly as ubiquitous as SMS. E-mail can on top of video, audio & picture "messaging" also do text "messaging." So, using the (imho INANE) logic of e-mail *replacing* MMS, why not go all out and get rid of SMS as well?

Sorry, imho E-mail is *not* an excuse or replacement (yet) for MMS. If this were the case, then I ask again, why include SMS then? It just clutters the UI up! If it's financial reasons, then again why not include MMS then? MMS provides a higher revenue stream. So either way, imho, none of this logic pans out.

MMS SHOULD BE IN THE iPHONE.

PS. I'm still getting one.

They said they are hiding things that haven't been announced to the public yet, also if this was the case then why hold the external photos and manuals?

They did the same thing with the 1st iPhone. This is typical Apple protocol. Nothing new was unveiled between MWSF 2007 and June 29th 2007 that would have been revealed in the confidential photos, glass front and YouTube wouldn't have been discovered. I don't see a front facing camera.

However, anything software (Copy/Paste or MMS) could be added at anytime, before or after July 11th.

Haha alright. People first bitch about no MMS, then about not having a good camera. I bet you'll still get one though. You have a month to let it sink in.

No, you misunderstood me. There was a lengthy thread which talked about the expressions "I could care less" and "I couldn't care less". Really, "I couldn't care less" makes more sense. It was an amusing thread. Someone created a visual tool to explain the difference. I was only kidding for those who remembered that earlier thread.

I never "bitched" about the iPhone "not having a good camera." I'm complaining about the lack of MMS, Copy & Paste, and no to-do lists. Also, are you claiming that Apple is absolutely perfect? Seems like you are. You might want to stop lighting the candles for Apple before you go to bed at night.

I guess you missed this:

LOL, thanks for the clarification. Sometimes when reading a forum post, it's difficult sense the "emotion behind the post." :)

seriously...what the hell is everyone bitchin' about?!

They were gonna keep the form factor the same. Everyone wanted 3G and they got it. GPS was one of those 50/50 features and it managed to sneak in! So what exactly didn't you get?

Front facing camera? use you're mac's isight to video chat but if you're not near your mac or pc or whatever, then you have a fantastic phone to make your calls on. Mobile video conferencing is not an essential part of a phone imo, even though its a great feature.

Better Camera? People who take pictures on cameras as their main source of photography can't expect fantastic pictures. My dad has a sony erricson with a 5MP camera..so what? he never really syncs it to his computer and while it looks great on his screen, pictures from the current iPhone look better on my 3.5inch screen too!!

Everyone is going on about copy & paste, MMS, bluetooth etc etc. Yes you've been bitchin about that for a long time, but seriously, it will happen eventually. Its only software. It can be updated.

Now is there anything HARDWARE related that people have to complain about please post them!

I will be getting the 3G iPhone, I'm getting it free as I'm in the UK and O2 have given us a fantastic deal. About 6 other people in my family are also getting iPhones, so honestly, your boycott ain't working

How about:

-It is plastic

-It is thicker

I guess you missed this:

First things, I didn't say you bitched about it. I am saying that is most of the consensus around here and if you don't believe that go back a page and look at the iphone thread list. There are no lighting candles here either. I will take noticed to things when they are due, but to me people are making big deals about a lot of nothing. Especially the day after this is even released when that much information is not even available.

As for you getting one, I misread that and do apologize.

Apple's new 3g iphone doesn't have all the new features we were expecting, sure, its "twice as fast, half the price."But many essential features that most all phones have nowadays are still missing. First off where's the MMS? I quote Kevin Peirera from G4's Attack of The Show: " Where's the Multimedia Messaging? Seriously at what point do you have to shake Steve Jobs and say. No! I don't wanna go to viewmymessage.com and put in the login, and put in the password to see a crappy thumbnail." I completely agree with this guy, its quite tedious after a couple times of viewing pictures. Also, no copy paste? any windows mobile phone has that feature [Im guessing]. All in all, the price drop is nice and so is the GPS and 3G, but some core functions are missing that you could find in any other smart phone. So, I know this is a pretty absurd thing to propose, and I know it's most likely not gonna happen; but lets boycott the iPhone until we get what we want? Haha

P.S. forgive me if something similar has already been posted in another thread; new to this site

Talk it up!

-Kris B.

Please leave the forum if you think this!

MacWorld have had hands on with the new iPhone 3G so i dont think there will be any new features im afraid :)

Count me IN for the boycott. The keynote was very misleadng and the new prices are out of control.

better reception... I will take that every day of the week.

Thicker? really? come on now.

The plastic has little to do with reception...I have a Razr for work and it is all metal yet gets great reception. It is all about the mighty dollar.

PLEASE STOP with the lack of MMS and bad quality camera already.

First and foremost, MMS is not reliable across different operators and different mobile model/brands. It's got many other limitations. You can Google/wiki it.

Secondly, Both SMS and MMS were introduced as VAS for operators to bring additional revenue stream by charging each other and user per message between SMS and MMS gateways using the same voice trunks. It didn't take up a lot of bandwidth (burst vs constant ie. voice traffic). Also, SMS became popular because of quick, convenient short messages that can be sent in bulk and received on any mobile phone and on any operator. SMS will continue to be widely used because of this. Now with more bandwidth, cellular towers, wifi/wimax and faster phones, there's just really no need for MMS. The iPhone allows us to use full out email as you would on a computer. So please tell my why you would still want MMS?

Last, the iPhone camera is good IMHO. Just do a flickr search on SE, Nokia vs. iPhone camera pics and you'll see the iPhone pics are actually better than those 3-5MP camera phones.

People want MMS because not everyone has a iPhone and therefore cant pickup the picture via e-mail on their phone.

I understand this, however I think I will do just fine without it.

Boohoo. MMS, video recording, copy & paste, and a bunch of that crap you are whining over can just be fixed in software update, which probably will happen soon.

But I can understand why many of the hardware things were excluded, like a camera for video conferencing, an improved camera on the back, a 32GB SSD, stereo bluetooth, and WiFi 802.11n. The addition of 3G and GPS was huge and yes, it would be great if they added all of the other hardware things we wanted. But if they did that, what they update next year? Nothing. Even if you people boycott the iPhone 3G, millions will still buy them. There are many who have already gotten rid of their first generation iPhones and are ready to buy new ones. The few hundred of you people who are PMSing right now won't make a difference with the 70 countries filled with citizens who don't have an iPhone. Not adding everything we wanted is smart, because next year when they add stereo bluetooth, a 3.2 or 5 megapixel camera, a second, front facing camera, and WiFi 802.11n we'll all, even those who have an iPhone, will run out to buy another one again. If there was nothing new to add to, not many people would run out to buy the same phone the next year that just has a shiny new design. And the 32GB problem will be solved like they did with the 16GB model in February and that (RED) one will come out soon, too. I will be one of the people who aren't acting like toddlers or spoiled teenage girls who didn't get everything they want, and get one. And I'll do the same thing next year and the years after that.

How is it acting like a toddler when someone isn't happy with a product? Your a nimrod to be sure. Thats what this forum is for to discuss apple iPhones. Some of us are happy with the new 3G (prolly first timers) and some of us aren't (prolly original owners) in any case this new phone is not really an upgraded iphone. Have fun.

Boring! I'm still boycotting "GRAPES" and look where that's gotten me and the rest of the world. I don't even drink wine anymore, and I feel that the entire world owes me an apology for partaking of the forbidden fruit! In fact, I forgot why I was boycotting grapes!

since when do you need MMS if you have the option to send and email directly from the phone? plus, if I'm correct, most cellphones now a days have their own email address... (ten-digit-number@yourcarrier.com) or so.

I've been sending emails from my phone for years... it's quite reliable as well.

Boycott the iPhone 3G, shorter lines for me to stand in when it comes out, as some people have said before me.
:D
