Have you had them? Are you getting them? Do you still have them? How long?


I'm just curious to see the response on this.

I had my braces for almost 4 years, and I got them off today.
I am soooo glad.
My top retainer is absolutely putting me in pain, because it's so tight,
and while waiting for the retainer, I think my top left tooth shifted
the smallest amount. Oh well.

I'm about to go eat some popcorn.

Congratulations and it's nice to see you're so happy with them. 4 years is a long time but I expect that you'll be very glad of that in years to come.

Yeah! My mom came to the realization that I've had them 1/4 of my life.
That makes me sound sooo young... :/

ive had them for for just under a year.. yeah i was lucky!
 
I went with invisalign instead of train tracks, two years later I've still got them with a year to go...braces would have been a year and a half course, but I'm quite happy with this...your teeth look really nice :)

I had braces when i was younger but they destroyed the roots of all my teeth on my upper jaw. So far I have had my front two replaced via metal screws in my jaw. The initial work took 10 hours to do and was very painful and boring. After the local wore off it was sheer hell, not fun to be on the underground in that state, was getting weird looks from everyone.

Then over the course of two years I spent about 6 hours a month in the chair, usually in one mammoth session. The temporary teeth they put on while waiting for the bone to fix to the screws would only hold for 5 days at most, once one fell out as I left the building.

At 2000 pounds per tooth not cheap, although the NHS are picking up this tab as they are the ones that screwed up in the first place.

Still got at least 6 more than need replacing, so not fun. I'm pleased them though.
 
Nice. You're giving me hope that these things are worth it!

I just got mine...two weeks and a day ago. They stank, with a capital suck. My estimate's to roughly get them off in June '09, which isn't too bad. 22 months.

I miss popcorn and apples.:(

I promise you - give it another two months and you'll be eating apples and popcorn. I was devestated when they're like "HAHA!- NO APPLES, SUCKER" but after a while, once your teeth set into a good spot, you can eat whatever. Apples, however, must be cut, or you'll hurt. But for the first few months, your teeths will be shifting everywhere and anywhere, and eating anything on the 'danger list' will hurt.

But trust me, they are sooo worth it.
But kissing with them really isn't ideal.

The dentists were a more than a tad suprised when they saw the x-rays as well. But there is a clear majors decrease in the root size from before the braces to after. To the point the dentists are shocked that my real teeth are still in my mouth.

They look fine can't tell them apart from real teeth. People are surprised when i tell them.
 
Make sure you wear your retainer, i was one of the people, like you, who was extremely beautiful, and had my teeth perfect after braces, but after never using the retainer, my teeth have shifted and are no longer perfect, i got some buckteeth, making my once handsome self, sadly, disgusting. :(
 
I got braces put on during my sophomore year of high school (top and bottom at different times), and had them removed my freshman year of college.Thos who complain about just having braces don't know the true dark side to them. Since I play low brass, and the rim of my mouthpiece just happens to lie directly on top of my teeth, it was hell. I still have scars inside my lips.

So, if you play trombone or euphonium (or any brass really), try your damndest to get Invisalign.

I had braces for roughly 4 years too. I've got a permanent retainer (wire) behind both my top and lower teeth now.

It was well worth it though.
 
I've had my braces off for a good two years.

Sadly, I have to wear a retainer for the rest of my life. It is at my discretion when I wear it, but since my parents spent good money on them, I wear it every other night.

I had them for about, 10 months.

As for those saying thats its good to chew gum and eat apples, I never did. I was to scared to.

I filed my retainer down some up on the top, and it's much nicer to me now. It was just so sharp and hurting my gums. My top retainer is so hard to put on because the sides are a little uneven, or something, and I gotta put the left side on the first then shove the right size in.

Its gonna be tight for the first couple days.

But, yeah. You'll get used to it. :)
 
I had my braces on for only 1 and half year but there off now and i think they have shifted a little but that only probably because id ont wear the retainer at night, but ahh well.

You look great, nice nashers!!!
 
I am 34 and got my braces put on 1.5 years ago. It was hell for the most part. I got the clear brackets on the top but had metal ones on the bottom. After opting out of having jaw surgery in August I was able to get them taken off in September. My teeth feel great but even with wearing my clear retainers I feel a couple of teeth moving. My advice is to wear your retainers all the time and only only take them off to eat.

Your teeth look great.
