I promise you - give it another two months and you'll be eating apples and popcorn. I was devestated when they're like "HAHA!- NO APPLES, SUCKER" but after a while, once your teeth set into a good spot, you can eat whatever. Apples, however, must be cut, or you'll hurt. But for the first few months, your teeths will be shifting everywhere and anywhere, and eating anything on the 'danger list' will hurt.

But trust me, they are sooo worth it.
But kissing with them really isn't ideal.

Yeah, I just haven't been brave enough yet to try anything on the danger list, except gum. I am so happy that sugarfree gum is (unofficially - :p) ok to chew with braces. I had a piece of Eclipse in my mouth within a week of getting them put on. As long as you're mindful of where the gum goes, its pretty much OK.

And I did try an apple - it was already sliced, but now that i've tried, i have to dice them instead. They put in two little things on the back of my two front teeth to train my tongue to stay away from my teeth so they don't push them out after I get the braces off, like I already have, and all I've gotten from it so far is a painful tongue and an inability to bite into chicken sandwiches.

Its gonna be tight for the first couple days.

But, yeah. You'll get used to it. :)

It's official: I read everything as being dirty.

To OP: Congrats, I know the feeling of being brace-free. I had mine on for over a year. Just make sure you wear the retainer even in college. One of my teeth shifted back just the smallest amount due to my own negligence and it still bothers me.

when I had my braces removed about 3 years ago (wow it feels like a long time now) I couldn't stop smiling for at least a week afterwards. But now that I'm a stereotypical teenager I never smile :p I now have this random wire behind my teeth keeping then all pretty.

lookin good:D. Like everyone keeps saying, wear you retainer! At first listen to your doctor and follow all the orders. Then in the coming years I would wear it at night, and on the weekends when you are at home doing homework or whatever.

I'm the same age as you and I had my braces for about 2 years. A few weeks after I took em off I noticed that my teeth was pulling back again, so now they are a little crooked again :p But the denstist said that it could happen

lucky you, ive removed all my teeth as means to buy apple products. It's a little know fact the apple store accepts teeth as payment.

Alright, I don't know WHAT you are talking about - but that HASSS to suck!

Retainers are the secret...!

...the secret to any teeth re-alignment is to wear the retainers exactly as directed by your orthordontist after the braces are removed.

I will shortly be having my braces (top & bottom) removed, and i have been given a choice of having a wire permantely attached behing the bottom row and to wear a removable retainer for the top - that i will need to wear for between 6 - 12 months.

I may go for the wire behind the top teeth too, as i feel that once the top braces are removed, my teeth will move...so i think the wire will be better, as i don't fancy having to have braces re-applied - after all, it's been two years and i have gone through a lot of pain so far.

A lady at my place at work never wore her retainers, and her top teeth have all crowded back and feel back - almost to their original position...she now regrets not ever wearing the retainer...!

I got the option of having a brace as a child and I refused because it wasnt cool lol

Now I have a wonkey tooth a little.

Its not bad but I kinda wish I had had it straigtened out.

The dentist now says it would be £3000 as an adult to have a brace. Ouch!

My braces costed $4,000, I think. They caused a lot of pain. I still have to go to the orthodontist every 6 weeks so they can make sure my teeth aren't going back. I might ask about the permanent retainer. It sounds like a good idea.

And to the people who posted pics, your teeth look great!

I'm not sure what the deal is over on your side of the pond but over here it is quite common to have a metal wire glued behind the front 4 teeth (top and bottom). I got a retainer when my braces were removed, wore it at night (as directed) for a few months and then just quit. My teeth haven't moved at all. Still exactly the same as when the braces came off years ago. Very pleased!

I had a retainer and braces on two teeth to pull them in since they were sticking out of my gums (Yes, like Dracula). That was about 7 years ago. I'm still not happy with my teeth because they stick out but its $5000 to get braces and my health fund will only give back $800 and I can't afford it. When I am working I will definitely fix them up :D

I got my brace fitted in September '06 after having my eye teeth and many other out so that I could have the brace fitted and the dentist said it was OK to take it off by the July and so after that I left it out for a bit and then tried it on near end August before I threw it out and was amazed how far they'd come forward, been wearing it every night since and are looking good again :)
(When I say brace it was a permanent retainer, make sense?)

Your teeth look great :)

I've never needed them. Haven't even got a filling. I chipped a little bit off a tooth in school when a girl ran into me as I was tying my shoelaces  nothing a brace can fix though!

Thankfully I was blessed with straight teeth, although it wouldn't hurt for my top front teeth to be a little closer together.

I cheated and had my teeth re-contoured instead.
took 3 hours and my teeth look near perfect but still flawed enough to look natural.
Helps that I have naturally very white teeth.

I might ask about the permanent retainer. It sounds like a good idea.

If you sing, don't a permanent retainer. They play hell with your diction. One time at a competition, an adjudicator told a girl that she should get her permanent retainer removed (it caused problems with her Italian). She had just gotten it about a month before, and her parents were PISSED.

I have a friend who had to practically re-learn how to play the flute for about a week when she got her braces off. :D

did all of you guys teeth feel slimy after you got them off? that was the best part! did you have to get retainers put in afterwards? they are seriously worse than braces because it you take them off for a while and then put them back the pain is like getting braces again.

Yeah.
The day after I got my braces off, it was hell. I woke up and my teeth were so sore you could feel my pulse through them. haha it was screwy.

youre really pretty. your teeth are too, but im talking about your face mostly.

EDIT: btw, im close to your age, so not creepy old man, just a compliment

Ah thats the worst bit, feeling your own pulse makes me feel sick
But goes after about 5 mins :)
Btw, how old were you guys when you had your braces, Im 16 now and have only had them since I was 15 so I was late compared to my mates. Just wondering if Im the only late starter.
