"Missing corner", "magic mirror screen". Where does the OP get these phrases from? I can just imagine the look of horror of the guys at the Apple Store whenever he walks in.

I'm not sure why people are ridiculing the OP.

Apple tells us that we pay a premium for a premium product, and then they delivered a defective one. Apple's policy is to take it back and give you a new one the first couple of weeks, no questions asked. The OP is going to get the laptop they want, they'll have a great experience with Apple, I bet they think twice before they gamble on buying another manufacturer's product, and I wouldn't be surprised if they tell several of their friends and family about their great experience. When was the last time you heard a good story about customer service at Toshiba, Sony, Panasonic, Dell, etc.? Exactly.

I returned one of my MBAs that had a tiny scratch on the bottom. Would it have affected my usage? Probably not. My resale value? Definitely. Anyhow, I was persuaded to buy into the Appleverse through word of mouth about positive experiences with Apple products and Apple customer service, and I'm sure others have been persuaded after hearing about my experiences as well.

Apple thrives on this stuff, and the OP is a perfect example of why it works -- Apple turned a minor quality control issue into a very positive experience. That's impressive.

This guy must be trolling. If you can't stand one tiny nick on your laptop, you should go see a Dr first. Soon or later your laptop is going to have scratch or nick. The best way to get the most money out of your MBA is to use the hell of it, not admire it.

I would return it. With the premium you pay, I wouldnt settle for any marks etc.

I would make the same hole on the other side to at least it matches. Could be an unique feature to have in case your laptop is stolen. You can easily identify it by just looking at the bottom.

Now being serious, just return it. You paid for a perfect computer so you should get what you paid for.

Probably but give him a fighting chance. He could spend the next few years being careful and wrapping it in bubble wrap where ever he goes but the bottom line is its already got a chip when is shouldn't have.

this thread is still alive?

the first scratch will set you free, they just did it for you. i couldn't bring myself to return something for something like that, but hey - if you can, have at it. you're doing some dude shopping refurbs a huge favour...

Apple tells us that we pay a premium for a premium product,

Where do they say this? A link or a screenshot is sufficient. I've only ever seen them list prices - I've never seen Apple say "you are paying a premium for our products". Thanks in advance.

That wouldn't be worth my time to return, or even take a picture of and post it on the forums.

When I read "missing corner" I expected to see an MBA in the shape of a triangle.

Having personally unpackaged about 200 MacBook Airs in the recent past, I'd say go ahead and swap it out before you get it all set up. It's a teeny problem, but if it's bothering you that'll be the best way to go about getting it fixed. AppleCare would probably classify it as accidental cosmetic damage.

Some people forget that Apple are doing them a favour by selling this stuff.

Like others said, turn it over and keep it.

How is Apple doing us any favors? We, the consumers, are the ones throwing money at them!

I don't quite understand your logic.

that's probably because you haven't read the thread. or the other one.

Or, I did read the thread and I do understand what many others are saying (ignore it, abandon any hopes for a "perfect" computer, suggesting they have a disorder, or dismissing them as a troll), but disagree, and think we shouldn't ridicule posters who create threads about legitimate concerns that they have.

Instead of railing against other members of the community, I'd say it's better to show a little respect and consider the possibility that there are multiple ways of viewing something. Give the OP advice about what to do if you want, but I think people ought to lay off the attacks that suggest there is something wrong with the OP for seeing this as a problem.

Apple's lack of quality control and craftsmanship affect customers. So, it can go both ways.

This assumes the microscopic missing corner is a QC issue. It's not. Five returns is abuse. The OP should buy from another vendor or Apple should tell him he has reached his return limit. Some people are not worth having as customers.

I can only imagine personal expectations and reactions to "real" life defects ......

I'm not following..

If Jeff was the one to put the small dent on the case, then so be it, it's his problem. But it seems the dent came from the factory.

Great cuz I don't see the "dent", small or otherwise, and in my wildest drunken exaggeration wouldn't call that minuscule pin hole a "missing corner". :D

It doesn't get any worse than this.

Many people, myself included, did in fact give the OP advice about "what to do" - in this thread, and the other one he created in which he said he has returned 5 macbooks for issues such as the world's smallest scratch on the BOTTOM of the machine, "light leakage," and a "magic mirror screen" and yet he is still having an issue with Macbook #6.

Sure, there's no reason for gratuitous character attacks or rudeness so I agree with you to a point, but the complaints and tone of some of these posts suggest to me that this isn't a real thread but more of someone doing it for yucks.

Did you see the picture? How on Earth is that a "legitimate concern?"
I mean honestly, return it or live with it. I personally would live with that. Granted I wouldn't live with some of the other reasons he listed such as bent apple logo or scratches around the trackpad, but like I said, it is clear to me that either this thread is bogus or there are some unrealistic expectations at play here.

The item went on sale on June 10 and were in stores on June 12. He posted the "I've returned 5 MBAs" thread on June 26. That's six laptops in 14 days. Do you believe that?
