Excuse me?? My initial comments and frustration was down to the fact they were refusing to replace it and wanted me to send it in for a repair.

If you were in their position you'd do the exact same thing. Perhaps when you're a bit older and learn more about how the world works you'll look back on this experience and shake your head like the rest of us are doing.

You are getting what you want and demanded to the expense of us all so it really is a bit rich to say you're not happy.

How is it at the expense of you? And why shouldn't I be cheesed off that my first Mac was a dud? I'm sorry but I paid Apple prices for a quality laptop which arrived faulty (which seems to be happening to more people nowadays). I also paid less than half the price, for a very similar spec Dell laptop which arrived fully working (as have every Dell laptop I've ever bought). Pardon me for being annoyed!

You obviously have no idea how old I am but I suspect I'm a damn site older than you! It really winds me up that everyone on these forums thinks everyone else are kids.

I suspect he was referring to your mental age after you, to all extents and purposes, threw your dummies out your pram. And all because Apple gave you what you wanted and demanded.

Come off it. Judging by your signature, you love your MBP so I'm sure you would have demanded a replacement if it arrived faulty.

Not everyone has money to throw away and it took a big leap financially to buy a Mac.

Anyway, my question is regarding how long I have to return the faulty one, not whether I'm a cry baby or not!

Yes of course I love my bad boy but I fail to see who that has anything to do with the tone of your whining original post. You got what you wanted and demanded from Apple yet have the gall to say you're not happy.

No, what I wanted was a quality laptop, not a laptop that crapped out before I even got it. How much confidence do you think that gives me that this laptop is going to last me a couple of years? Not alot!

What I wanted was a replacement sent out to me the same day - bearing in mind that the original order was shipped 4 hours after I ordered it AND it was delivered the next working day. Therefore, there's no reason at all why Apple should take a whole week to process a replacement.

However, I fail to see how one comment about whether I'm happy with an experience or not, warrants this kind of feedback. Surely whether I'm happy with my experience is my choice. There are people on this forum who spill water on their laptop then complain because the Apple Genius' wouldn't help them. Do they get this treatment? No!

You've also failed to explain how this is at your expense!

Sure there is. Never underestimate the inefficiency of large bureaucracies. If you're not prepared to wait, you could have driven to your nearest Apple Store and demanded the replacement in person, but you didn't. You chose your method of dealing with the problem, so you have to deal with the consequences as well.

Um, yes they do. The complainers that whine and make it seem like they're entitled to better treatment than the rest of us just because they "demand" something get flamed for being retarded, kind of like you are now.

You've also failed to explain how this is at your expense!

Imagine if everyone demanded a replacement at the first sign of a problem instead of having it fixed. Do you think that is a cost effective way of maintaining a business? In turn, if a business isn't making profits off of handing out computers on a whim, do you think they have any incentive to lower the price of their warranty repairs or their products in general? Think about it carefully.

That is the whole point of this thread IF you'd bother to read it! I did go to an Apple Store and they said they would send it off to be repaired. They refused to replace it and told me I had to arrange it over the phone.

I haven't seen one thread in this forum since I joined where someone has received a faulty laptop and then been happy with a 'repair' on a brand new laptop.

Are you KIDDING me? Most people (like myself, who bought a used MBP and had to get the fans repaired) would be overjoyed to get a BRAND NEW replacement ASAP. The fact that you're upset about them not repairing it is ridiculous. Live with it for a week and they would've repaired it within three days, like mine. Sent it out Monday afternoon and it got back into town Wednesday morning.

What?? Have you even read my post? I'm not upset that they didn't repair it.

Ah, so you did. I still don't understand why you aren't satisfied with a repair and instead demand a replacement. It's a little annoying that you have to arrange a replacement by phone, but again it's not surprising since Apple maintains an iron grip on their store employees and managers with regard to giving handouts. Again, it comes down to good business.

Oh man, your whole three months of forum membership. Get back to us in a couple of years.

I've just spoken to AppleCare and after a fairly lengthy discussion (with me refusing to let someone open up my laptop), they have agreed to replace my MBP. Unfortunately, this means I will now be waiting another whole week while they mess around with an RMA, and then sending a new one.

Really not happy with this experience to be honest.

Jesus, you can't go a week without a computer? Really?

The OP has been brought up on what he has said but I think, upon reflection, that the OP is more upset in general about having to wait to get another laptop, which I think we could all sympathize with

Sure, that seems fair.

But if I only got my MBP today, why should I have to put up with them opening it up to repair it? Surely they should just swap it for a brand new one that works.

By post #12, the OP has gotten what he originally wanted, but then goes on to complain about how long he/she'll have to wait.

A whole week to get a replacement! God forbid. It really sounds like Apple's corporate mission is to make MacFanUK's entire experience a negative one, especially because they've been so flexible and understanding about this whole process.

I really don't get why some of you are jumping down MacFanUK's throat. Is this just more of the old sheeple attitude that apple can do no wrong or are you guys just being a pain in the ass?

If I bought a brand new machine and it was faulty (hey, it happens) I would be pissed off about having to talk apple into replacing it. Apple trying merely to repair it (instead of replacing) is really low.
So after some convincing, a replacement is on the way, great, but that is a tad on the frustrating side to buy a new machine, get disappointed by it not working right, then having to fight to get apple to do the right thing, then having to wait some more for it.

End of the world? No. Irritating and worthy of a little complaining? Definitely.

Come off it.

It's at the great expense to EVERYBODY if people demand new laptops on the slightest whim.

Actually, no I can't afford to go 1 week without a computer, considering I have my own business designing websites, I'm also a university student on an Internet Technology course (for which I need a computer) and various other uses that require a computer, some of which need a Mac specifically for the software I've bought to go with the Mac!

Yeah, it's called life. happens to everyone.

I'm not trying to come down on you but if you want people here to have at least SOME empathy for your situation please make sure and remember the words that you write. You said and I quote, "I also paid less than half the price, for a very similar spec Dell laptop which arrived fully working (as have every Dell laptop I've ever bought). Pardon me for being annoyed!"

Just above you said you couldn't go without a computer for week. You said right here that you bought a similarly equipped Dell, plus you have your fancy Hackintosh in your sig. Doesn't sound like a week without your MBP was going to hurt you at all, you're NOT without a computer.

Also, in terms of you feeling disappointed that you got a faulty machine, that's understandable, it's when you go so far as to create a post about it, that's when it seems like you are just whining. I've had a few Mac notebooks get sent to me defective. My recent 13"MBP came with a dent. My older Macbook Air came with a dent and was wobbly on the table. Sure, I was disappointed but I was not about to create a thread about it, WHY?
For the most part, the forums are for help but people make the mistake and think that MR is a place for therapy when you need to rant about your disappointments with Apple and it just gets old for a lot of people here.

It would be nice for people to create a thread that said, "Hey, guess what, I had some issues with my new MBP, but Apple exchanged it and it works perfectly". Instead, people just come here and say what Apple's done wrong to them, rather than what Apple did to take care of the situation with a positive ending. Just my 2 cents. ;)

Everyone's experiences with a computer varies. With me I have owned many Apple computers, from desktop to lap tops. In the over 20 years I have owned them, I have have only a few issues, which Apple took care of, mostly through repairs. I had an early iBook, that within days, keys kept popping off. Apple repaired it and did not replace it. Apple sent the repair box, fixed the iBook and returned the iBook to me all in 3 days.

I have had many Panasonic wireless phones. A couple were defective when bought. I call Panasonic, they tell you to send in the defective unit, and even if it was defective when purchased they sent me a refurbished replacement. They Will NOT send you a NEW replacement. They claim they don't have any!

So my experiences with two large tech companies, Apple provided me with the best over all experiences. I am sorry, yours was less than what it might have been, or should have been.

While I accept the rest of your post and it is very valid, I would like to point out that I did also state that some of the stuff I needed the MBP for was 'Mac Specific' due to the software I have purchased which cannot be installed on a PC. Also, my desktop has been turned back to a Windows machine due to a few niggly problems with the hackintosh.

Please. Don't talk to me about being understanding and reasonable when you see fit to berate someone for venting some frustration.

I am an entirely understanding person, but when a company touts itself as being a premium choice and charges a premium accordingly, I expect at least some degree of premium quality and treatment. I don't think that's too much to ask.

As I said, I don't think this is the end of the world but I can appreciate the frustration of the original poster here and I don't feel he/she was deserving the attacks he/she received from many of you.

i guess it is just as dumb as considering yourself different than the rest of their customers.

He has every right to express his disapointment with getting a flawed machine with out this kind of abuse. Please save this kind of gross abuse for usenet or someplace where it's appropriate. Abusing users cause you don't agree is just plain old wrong. Please stop.

it was not a whim, it was broke. If my computer arrived broke brand new of course I would demand it be replaced. Demanding a replacement is the intellegent thing to do.
