Nirvana was one of the most important bands not Green Day, in 10 years some band will make this generation forget all about them.

alright, i didn't say that nirvana was any less or more important, i just said that green was one of the most important. there's no denying that nirvana played a big part in getting kids to pick up guitars, but i'd contend that green day had the same effect (though perhas to a lesser degree). the point was that green day has been a hugely influential band.

and for what its worth, green day was a more talented band and has had more direct influence on the music industry. yea, nirvana probably got more kids to pick up guitars, but grunge pretty much died with kurt, whereas pop-punk is still going strong.

simple plan

Yes, please retire simple plan, I don't get what the big deal is, their music isn't any good, yet everyone is utterly ecstatic about them. I seem to be the only person in this school who listens to the older bands(ramones, ect.)

Pet peeve #72 - when Kurt 'talentless hack' Cobain is credited with being the godfather of grunge. Layne Staley died, and nobody so much as raised an eyebrow. For shame.

iGav

If you're going to 'nudge' some bands to re-form, then please work your magic on Talking Heads, the Beta Band and the Young Marble Giants.

Thanks

Not a big fan of Blink-182 but its not really fair to slag of all of these bands cus they're manufactured rubbish.

The Beatles were a creation of a certain Mr.Epstein and were the ultimate boy band.

You are crazy. Epstein did nothing. There are tons and tons of documentaries. Go check them out before making such a rediculous claim.

I raised an eyebrow - was completely gutted in fact. But once someone's lost two fingers to gangrene from injecting heroin, you're prepared to hear the worst pretty soon after.
Was going to try and get this post back on topic, but I'm too depressed now. Damn.

Whoever said Franz Ferdinand should break up should really go play in traffic.

There are a lot of good bands out there, but if you live in a city where the only radio station that plays "alternative" music is in the 104.x range watch out. All you get on that station is corporate alternative garbage.

Luckily seattle got out of that market a year ago or so, but browse around iTunes and you should find some stuff you like that is better than well...basically all the aforementioned bands.

Here are a couple places to start. Enjoy.

(they are gunna be basically no-name bands for most people, but they got a couple good songs and might kick ass in the future or disapear)

Secret Machines

Autolux

Pretty Girls Make Graves

Louis XIV

Kasabian

The Faint

And some that you have heard before, but should look a bit deeper into.

The Killers

White Stripes

Muse

Dandy Warhols

Pixies

Modest Mouse

Alright im done. Take a chance, listen to one of these a bit, then click on the iMix's and explore them. Great way to find bands you might not have heard about. Enjoy.

Can somebody please make the Scissor Sisters go away, I watched them on Leno and they are by far the worst ever band in existence.

Wow.You musn't have heard the Fast Food Rockers. Or Dollar. Or Westlife. Or S Club 8 etc etc.

Plus Scissor Sisters are pretty good. The thing people here seem to hate about them is "Comfortably Numb" (which in fairness isn't great) which is by no means the best song on the album - Laura and Return to Oz are both better. But most people (here's looking at you, iGav ;) :p) hate them 'cause they're Pink Floyd Fanboys. ;)

Regardless of all the on- and off-topic posts and vaarying opnions here, Blink 182's drummer, Travis Barker, rocks. He is one of the best drummers out there today. Not just in rock or pop or pop-punk or whatever you want to call it, but in all of music. He may just be a card-carrying ninja.

Can you back that up with some proof, Your saying of all the drummers alive today he is one of the best. I'm gonna call your bluff on that.

I was gonna say they are a wanna be Queen cover band, That lead singer sure does want to be like Freddie Mercury. I don't see any comparison to Pink FLoyd.

Actually Travis Barker is typically recognized as a stand out drummer and seems to get a lot of respect from the drumming community.

I'm not even sure how to respond... how/why would I be bluffing? The proof I would use to back up my claim would be any Blink 182 CD along with any material by Boxcar Racer or The Transplants. I even think he played some gigs with the Vandals. Trust me, Travis Barker is the real deal.

Neil Peart much? :D

How about Pancho Sanchez? I saw him once and he was telling the audience that his hands are so calloused that they hit like 2x4 lumber when he drums. He was also an unbelievable percussionist. Blew me away.
