I can only hope those that chose to buy such things inlcude me on their will and then proceed to fall off the top of a very tall building whilst playing Pokemon Go.

What a wonderful psychopathic world we live in...

... and there it is. Think about the children. Funny, we don't think about the children when we crank up our electronics. Conflict minerals are in all of our stuff.

Yeah... I mean this is like those people who spend money on an Apple Watch they could have donated to charity. Morally bankrupt I tell ya!

The difference here is obvious: millions versus hundreds. It's far easier for the wealthy to go through with purchases + donations than us common folk. Them matching an "expensive" purchase with a donation clearly wouldn't put a dent in anything they do. That can't be said for the normies who may rarely purchase these products.

Nothing says "I have more money than I know how to spend, cannot figure out how to buy taste with it, and want everyone who sees me to know this" like a piece of technology coated in gaudy precious metals.

Although this does teach you something interesting about the modern world: no matter how rich you are--including being willing to spend a million dollars on a phone--you get the same sub-$1000 phone everyone else does. It is literally not possible to buy something better, in technical terms, than a moderately expensive commodity product. That will be bottom of the line in 2 years.

Technology really is the great democratizer.

You peasants can't understand. It is not about its beauty or its ugliness, it's about you not being able to get one.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever read.. It's their money and they can do as they please.. I love everyone's moral scale. To some in other countries your iPhone costs most than a years salary. Why don't you match that purchases with a donation too.

Or your macbook air,shoes,appliances,TVs... etc...

I agree with you, it is their money. It is my right to make fun of them, as well!

Personally my first iPhone I bought recently was used from eBay and my next iMac is gonna be refurbished. I know still it is not a moral thing to do but it is more moral than buying them brand new.

I guess it's true. Tax breaks for the wealthy really do pay solid dividend. To think that some poor bastard would have to settle for an emerald encrusted, or worse yet, just a plain solid gold case is just too much to bear. Oh, the horror!

Anyone paying $1.3m for something that is out dated in twelve months and obsolete after five years needs their head examining.

Thank you for saying "five years" instead of the "one or two years" that many people think that an iPhone lasts. I'm still on my trusty iPhone 4... 6 years and running. :)

And how do you know they aren't making donations or doing something good in addition to buying this phone? Don't be so quick to judge.

Anyone else noticing how the very large seeking camera lens on the mockup has now become very small and similar looking in size to that of an iPhone 6s Plus lens?? Yes it is dual lens and has a larger flash but a distinctly smaller camera compared to the mock Ups?

Also, distinct lack of smart connector...

This is actually sort of brilliant (no pun intended) because you literally only need to sell a handful and you can quit. There must be at least a 100000% markup on this.

Apologies for coming off dickish. I wasn't judging you or your purchasing decisions. I was literally commenting on the meme of "think of the children". People throw it out on every subject available. Applicable or not.

Anybody who would spend over 1 million dollars on this, which is a complete frivolous waste of money, is morally bankrupt. If you have that much money to throw away, you should spend it doing some good in the world.

So by your measure, no matter how much "good" someone does, they would never be justified in doing what they want with their money (like buying something like this) if it doesn't meet your standards? Is there a means test or threshold under which one could buy what they want with their money?

I bet you don't hold yourself to the same standard.

Usually rich tasteless people miss good advisors too. Someone who just dares to ask "What are you doing?" with no fear of being let out of the payroll.

Honestly the only upside to these is that if someone steals your phone they might return the phone and keep the case.

Because buying something that looks like this, with its obviously high price tag, says a lot about the person purchasing it. Part of what it says is that they have an extraordinarily high amount of disposable income and probably don't care about helping people below them. Just my theory.
