Good grief, she sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Not so sure I would be so patient with a coworker like this.
I'm not. :)

Unfortunately the situation is not one easily resolved. I work for a small family-owned company (less than 10 employees) and she currently enjoys an untouchable status.

Consequently, while my devices are always on my desk at work they are positioned to be as out of the way as possible.

But the day she breaks one of them is the day she gets billed for my OoW price of replacement.

Fortunately that has yet to happen but I attribute that to the fact that I am religious in making sure my devices are out of her path.

Some people are just clumsy as hell like that.
The least she can do if she damages anyone elses property besides hers is to pay to have it repaired or replaced.
I'm the same way at work with some people. I gotta make sure nothing is near the edge of the desk or a glass with liquid is 7 miles away from my phone or laptop or anything that could trip, fall, spill, get dropped will happen and I'll be annoyed:D

What's the point of getting such a beautiful device and putting it in a case?

because apple did it wrong? 6/6s is so slippery. i have apple leather case so it gives me something to grip without dropping it easily.

and white iphone with a brown leather case looks more elegant than without a case.

After 7 months my iPhone 6s plus is just as new as it came from box . has been using tempered glass + back cover from day one

same here

The pessimist in me believes that Apple design these phones to wear in a cosmetically unappealing way. They insisted on the iPods having a polished finish, most iPhones either have soft aluminium anodised so that it chips away slowly, or highly exposed glass, (or both for the 6)

The most resilient ones were the 3G series and 5C, but no one apparently likes plastic so ...

I agree - some phones are to wrapped up in so much rubber they'd probably survive a nuclear winter !

;)

I use the Official Leather iPhone 6 Plus Case.

Purely to help me with gripping the iPhone.

I recently viewed a YouTube video of a guy who applied Glock Gun Grip Tape to add grip.

If I could find some kind of strips that adhered to the sides of my phone I'd try that.

The above tape isn't available in the U.K and I'm not wanting to import Gun Tape.

I've tried Grip Tape that's used on Skateboards buts it's rather course and not that good to the touch. :(

I know lots with broken iPhone screens. Personally it would drive me nuts. also what I find funny is that as soon as you get AppleCare+ nothing ever actually seems to happen. karma

My iPhone 6 slipped out of my hand a few times already, one time it slipped on its screen across a bridge and not a single scratch. a friend without AppleCare+ tied his shoe and his new iPhone fell out of his shorts > screen broken since

Opinion.

I don't agree with that opinion however.

In regards to your comment about slippery - ok. Sure. So you handle it carefully. I hear this slippery argument all the time as a reason to use a case, yet there are many people (such as myself) who do NOT use cases and manage to keep our devices in our hands and not drop them.

Yes. It's slippery. The difference is, I don't drop mine.

It's of no matter whether one person believes a case is necessary or not.

Personal preferences and needs are all that matter. If you feel a case isn't necessary, then don't get one. If you want a case then get one regardless of why, just get it if you feel inclined to do so.

There's no reason to care what someone else does with their own phone.

Should have taken pictures, but the other day, I was at the local Mall, and I was amazed as to how many cell phones were in peoples hands, and not in their pockets or purses. Not even using them, just walking around. One individual dropped hers onto the floor (carpeted) picked it up, and continued walking holding phone in the hand. Is the smartphone that necessary to keep holding it ? Of course most were still young (Under 30 I think)

There is a German city that has installed traffic lights in the crosswalks because it's citizens are constantly looking down at their phones and ignoring the signal poles.

So, yeah, I'd say this is a typical thing.

I never use any case, bumper or screen protector because I hate them. They make the phone ugly. I want my phone to look like it is and not keep it in a like new condition for maybe selling it sometime and treat it like a raw egg just because of that.

My iPhone 5 dropped several times and nothing happened to it. Just a few scratches maybe, but nothing you might see normally.

My iPhone 6 dropped a few times per day, sometimes even directly on the display on a hard surface.

Luckily it just got some dents on the side in the edges, where the golden color is gone now. I really dropped it several hundred times in the about 13 months of daily usage. It's still fine beside those small dents that you barely see and maybe some micro scratches.

I don't have that problem with my 6s Plus anymore. The 6 and 6s are just too light, thin and slippery to use them without a case. At least for me. But despite that fact I never wanted a case and since nothing bad happened after many drops, I just kept dropping it until a little more than one year later when I just got the bigger one for that issue. :D

And I also don't see that many broken phones out there. I can't even remember the last time I saw one. Must be over a year ago that I saw one with a cracked screen.

Now that you mention it, I have noticed the same at malls and other public places. My phone is only in my hand if I am using it. Otherwise, it is in my pocket.

I am so OCD about my phones that I put cases and tempered glass protectors on them straight out of the box. Won't even use my phone unless I have protection on it. It's not that I'm clumsy, b/c I have rarely dropped a phone. It's just that I value my money and my expensive purchases and try to take care of them as much as possible. Even when I'm training and get a new wear mark on my rifles or pistols, I still get pissed (even if it is a tool of my profession).

I suspect this is due to phones being ever more expensive and the fact most carriers are doing away with subsidizing phones. Plus people are cheap and don't buy the insurance or what have you. Coupled with everyone living pay check to pay check and driving a $1000 car and can't make rent, but gotta have the latest phone... "hood rich"

What's the point of getting such a beautiful device and putting it in a case? I never used a case and I never cracked any of my iPhones. People that use cases sicken me just as much as people with broken screens. It's easy, you just have to be more careful and do the following: get a comfortable computer job, or even better don't have a job, don't do any outdoor activities, and spend most of you free time indoors on the internet. You too can have a naked phone with no blemishes. lol at people with cases.
This picture should really sicken you then.

I have owned every iPhone but the 5 and 6 and have never had a broken screen. I have never broken the screen on any phone.

I've never used cases on my phones.
What's the point of an Ive-thin aluminium phone if you hide it under an ugly plastic/silicone case, which makes it thicker again?

Don't buy an ugly case. They're so thin so they can have a case.

Also I don't mind some scuffs or scratches, after all it's just a phone.

A scuffed and scratched iPhone is uglier than a mint one in a beautiful case. What's the point of that beautiful design if it doesn't last?

I remove my iPad Mini's case and cover when I need to put it in my jacket pocket, but it's fully protected there and I don't look like an idiot pulling out a damaged iPad. I get to enjoy its mint shiny goodness and know I will do the next time as well.

I don't have quite the "history" that you have, but my iPhone 5 looks as good as it did the day I bought it.

I'm amazed that the discussion of putting a case/screen protector/etc has dragged this long.

Some do and some don't...it's that simple. Do whatever you wish.

Mine are all flawless today too. Every phone I have has been put in a case since day one.

The iPhones have Apple leather cases on them with screen protectors, not to protect the screens from scratches, but to keep the greasy fingerprints to a minimum. I also have a 5S that's not on that picture above that is now careless because the case I had it in is falling apart. I rarely use it now.

All my Android phones have cases except for the Note Edge.

In other words, your fault, and you will get no sympathy from us...ever ;) So don't post about dropping your phone, and it broke.

Exactly.

But I'm sure someone out there can testify that the screen cracked/shattered while their phone was in a case.

Nothing is bullet-proof. That includes cases.

My wife dropped her iPhone 6 with the Apple leather case on the sidewalk and cracked her screen. My co-worker dropped her iPhone 6 with a case (not sure what, but a fairly minimal one) on a tile floor at work and shattered her screen. Another co-worker dropped her iPhone 5s down some bleachers (again, with a case) and broke her screen to bits. I was present to see all three of these examples with my own eyes.

I am not arguing for or against cases, but most do not offer the protection everyone thinks they do.
