I got the same problem with my iphone 3g conector on the board. I have the part, need someone to attach it to the board

are u able to tell me if you are you able to jsut slide it in with out the plastic the lock in? if the white cover ontop of where it slides in.. if thats cracked does this affect it?

and if the phone will turn on regardless of the 3rd ribbon cabel?

much appreciated if you can help

you can slide it in without using the clip, although it may not have connectivity. if the white cover is cracked, chances are it will not give you enough support to press the pins down when the clip is clamped down, so non function of the proximity sensor/ear speaker.

the phone WILL turn on regardless of #3.

hey guys,

i replaced the glass of my iphone and pulled out the cable to connector 3 without lifting the clip. although the cable and connector 3 look fine i still have no connection (sensor and earpiece not working). is it possible that the connector got broken, and how can i test it?

thx for your help

edit : it's a 3gs

edit2: i checked the cable under the microscope and found some fractures on the copper contacts...does someone know if there is a difference between the sensor flex cable of the 3gs and the one of the 3g? i need a cable for 3gs but i only found some for 3g.

They are the same. Should be an easy fix if youre only replacing the cable then.

thank you...but i'm still not sure if it is really the cable, actually it should make contact.
i don't know how the connector is built up internally, so do you think it can be broken because not having lifted the white clip before pulling out the cable?

regards

The connector is a series of pins going from top to bottom, and bottom to top. The pins are not just flat, but they provide a section where the ribbon goes in, think of the letter "U"

Once the ribbon goes in, the clamp actually clamps down so that those pins of the "U" are touching both sides of the cable. That is pretty much how the connector is built up. If you have ANY connectivity at all, usually something would work I'm guessing. The cheaper route is to swap the ribbon cable, and if that still doesnt work, you can send it to me and I can swap out your connector.

ok i think i will follow that way. last question: should i see the movement of the pins when i watch into the connector (where the ribbon cable goes in) with a loupe while moving the pushing down the clip?

only slightly, its almost unnoticeable.

it's quite ****** my new touch screen also is not working, i have deviations, that means if i press a button for an app it takes the one which is left?!?! anyone also got a broken replacement touchscreen? i just ordered another one to check it.

ok now to the connector:
do you know where i can order one? i decided to try it myself

ebay.

FYI, if you try it out and mess up, its gonna cost more to fix. ive had to fix many others' mistakes.

i know, i have some experience with soldering small smd stuff. is it necessary to disconnect power supply? how do you handle it?

thx a lot

cable

the cable came apart when i removed digitizer...therefore the connection is still on spot it should be it is just no longer attached to the actual cable. Repairable with just the part available on ebay? Don't want to take phone apart again if someone knows right off. thanks

Not sure what you're describing, but is your board bare like the one in this link?

If so, check if you have all the solder pads in place. If not it may not be repairable

mine looks like the second picture...the cable is not attatched to the connector. Instead of the connector and cable coming off together the connector stayed on the pins and the cable tore away. Hope that makes it clearer?? wish i had taken a picture before closing up but iphone is my only phone (no landline)

The second pic is how it is supposed to look like. The cable slides in and is latched down by that black latch. If you lift that latch, you can slide your cable back in, and clamp down the latch.

so i pull up the tab and then the connector comes up or does it slide backwards away from the tab? that would be sweet if that was all i need to repair. thanks, just want to be clear before i open up again.

ignore my last post, i reread and think i understand. I thought the connector came off but as you explained it just slides under. I guess I didn't break anything? that is a relief.

Hector:
This morning I tried my original battery, and in the process broke ribbon 3's receiver as well. The instructions said to lift the receiver up 90 degrees, which I thought was the white part. After it started bending and cracking, I realized there was a black latch that I was supposed to be lifting. In any event, the receiver is pretty much destroyed. I ordered a cheap broken iPhone on eBay, hoping to "Frankenstein" it with my current iPhone to have a working model again (at least for a month, until the new one comes out). If that doesn't work, however, I will be soliciting your help. Please PM me if you're still willing to perform those installations. Thanks

Hey there,

Unfortunately those tutorials out there don't mention that there are TWO types of connectors, black and white lol. Anyway I'm guessing yours was white with a black latch. I'm going to shoot over an email to you right now, since theres no PM option. Anyone else needing to contact me, my email is the same as my screenname but at gmail.com

I've added up a guide for replacing the connector 3.
It is very hard to do, but may be useful for those with soldering skills or to show to someone with soldering skills.
How to Replace Connector 3 on iPhone 3G and 3GS

Tech, I guess you're the same person that posted in the other thread as well? Anyway, I have a write up similar like yours, but I detailed my equipment as well. I left a comment on the site saying that removing the old connector that way will easily remove solder pads damaging the board. There's a different way to do it. But anyway, good luck.

Broken iphone 3g flex cable

Thanks guys, finally i found some clues to fix my iphone here..
But i have different case, my LCD just showing white and i found that flex cable which soldered into the lcd (part which glued to the lcd) is detached. I think replacing the LCD would fix it, but i saw on ebay there is seller which sell this part separated (LCD-backlight-flex).

Hi hector, have you experienced problem like this?
I just wondering, if i could soldered new flex cable to the LCD (or just glue it??). Any ideas?
