Covers, yes.

Cases, I beg to differ.

Cases might protect your back and sides from minor dings. Drop it on the screen though on something hard and not flat the glass can break. Who cares about minor dings on back.

Cases are a scam. Only since antenna gate and the free bumper case, people think they are needed. False. Waste of money. Adds weight and hides the good looks. Like buying a watch and then putting a bag on it.

I still disagree.
I've dropped my various iPhones a few times, even this new 6, in a case, on concrete, on asphalt, with a fox, in a box, and have never had a broken or cracked screen.

You are proving my point. I had my iPhone 5 for 2 years. Naked. No broken screens. Dropped a couple times. A case covers the back and sides. Not the screen. With the lip or edge of the case it might help protect the screen if you slide it on a flat surface. That's it. Take a pointy rock and drop your phone screen side onto it. It may break. Case or not. So what's the point of a case again?

Well, I still disagree.
I use one. You don't.

What I am not doing is getting into an unending argument on the internet.

We disagree. Done. Such is life.

You never refuted what I said. So basically You ran away when you realized I was right. Thanks! You proved my point.
Ok. In spite of the fact that me trying to "refute" you is pointless, because this wasn't actually a discussion, I acquiesce to your genius intellect.

You win the internet. Bully for you.

I disagree. Although I prefer the look of a naked iPhone, the most likely thing you're going to drop an iPhone on is a flat surface (your floor, a counter, concrete sidewalk, etc.). A case like like Apple's silicone one will be able to absorb some of the impact and will at least ensure that the screen doesn't make impact with the ground. It's still very possible that the screen will shatter, but I'm pretty confident in its ability to withstand at least a 5-ft drop in most instances.

Also, the iPhone 6 & 6 Plus have highly polished, slick surfaces. A grippy case makes it much less likely that it will slide out of your hand in the first place.

This.

Update, went to the Apple Store and was able to get a replacement. Had to pay the deductible but I knew that going in. They claimed that they could do a screen replacement but their machine hasn't been working. That would have been $150 supposedly in stead of the $79 deductible.

And for the people wondering, no the screen did not lift or desperate. It just had a impact point with some shattering of the glass right there and then a spider from there.

Not gonna get the zagg put back on but did by the leather case and am pretty happy with it so far. I bet with the curved glass edge on the 6 and the plus that there will be many broken screens. Any decent drop will easily shatter one of these.

I broke my screen, it was a bit spectacular. But I won't go into details, considering what the OP has gone through. I feel your pain.

I just don't know what to do for a case... I think I will visit Best Buy tomorrow.

I don't think so. It definitely looks like it lifted to me. The crack may go through, but if you look more towards the bottom right corner, you can actually see that it is lifting.

I don't see how it can be lifting when the crack goes through the point that the screen "lifted" from

I really think it's just an unfortunate reflection. Curved edges tend to do that

the apple leather case wraps around the edges well and is razed so that a the glass shouldn't be impacted on a face down drop.

I got the Apple leather case and didn't like it cause it felt too slick to me--I returned it and got the their Silicone case and it felt like I had more grip on the phone. Not much protection but offers some and still keeps the phone feeling original and not bulky.

broken iPhone 6+ screen

This is Why I have my plus naked. Cases and covers are a waste of $$. Add bulk and look bad.

I would have agreed with you for the previous iterations of the iPhone. But the 6 series is way too thin and it is extremely slippery. Case is needed imo.

Always rocked my phone without a case but this one is too fragile.

Yes , but unless you cover the awesome display, how is the screen protected?

I had my 6+ for only five days before dropping it less than 2 feet from my tile floor onto it's back and having the front screen shatter completely. The Apple rep who sold me my 6+ told me this phone would be more sturdy and harder to crack the screen than my 5, but that is not my experience.

I never have broke my 5's screen so I'm disgusted that such a small fall could do SO much damage to an "improved" model.

I had the same question with wondering if I could get a replacement phone with hearing that so many are on back-order. I think Apple should look into more testing on these screens. Makes me wonder if the 5's sapphire glass screens were more sturdy, but not used on the 6's because it increased the weight of the phone. Instead, Apple went with a lesser quality screen to keep the size and weight of the 6's phones in check. Just my thoughts...

So I did it... Broke the screen on my plus. Never have broken a screen before and I have owned every single iPhone. Luckily I have applecare+, but I was wondering if anyone has tried to take a plus in under warranty yet? Will they even have stock for replacements or am I sol for the time being? luckily the break is on the bottom corner and not really not he screen but enough to bother me. Highly doubt they are doing in house screen replacements yet.

I even had the zagg glass screen but it doesn't cover the rounded glass edge.

I took my 6+ Gold 64 in because it had 2 dead pixels. I got a replacement phone on the spot with my applecare+. I asked the genius bar employee how much stock they usually will carry on any given day, and he said they always have to have 5% of stock for replacements and such. I also asked him how many of my model they have in stock and he said they had 4 left. so i wouldn't worry about it too much.

5s has Gorilla glass, Sapphire is only used on fingerprint sensor and camera lens cover.

My question has always been how the tapered edges of the cover glass affect shock resistance. It seems like it would be more fragile, but the ion treatment could make it a wash. Drop tests by Square Trade show no problems with 6/6+ glass, but I'd like to see them duplicated by someone else.
