Pacific, in place of specific; I know a few people who do this.

I don't encounter that often so when I do it annoys me. I had a woman 25+ years my senior who told me she could not spell or speak as well as I could because at my age she was home raising babies taking care of her man.

I used to hate when people would say, "guess what I learnt today?" Apparently that is common in the UK though and not so much in the US. My typical issues are loose/lose, you're/your, etc.

I receive many letters throughout the week where people are complaining about "loosing" something. I'm almost conditioned to not notice the mistake and just read on.

Holycrapflaps that one really gets me too.

Here in Sheffield UK we get a lot of 'k's instead of 't's. I don't know if it's a region dialect thing or whether it's nationwide but LOADS of people say Kekkle, Digikal, Hospikal and bokkle.

:mad::mad::mad:

Infact that's just pushed me over the edge, where's my gun?

This has bugged the shizzle out of me for ages and today its REALLY got my goat. I've seen 3 people today say 'brought' instead of 'bought'.

"Hey I just brought an iMac"

"So where is it?" I reply

"At home" is usually the response.

"So why did you say you had brought something when you haven't?"

*confused stare*

I think you see where I'm going here.

What other things that people say incorrectly but aren't even aware of bug you?

Totally with you on that.

Another one that bugs me... "Can you borrow me some money"

Kekkle? As in "I'll just go put the kekkle on, shall I?"*
:D:D:D

I LOL'd.

"Jewlery"

Let me clarify the bokkle, kekkle post so you do not to think half of Sheffield if completely retarded.

I'm talking about the pronunciation not the spelling here. :D

We don't have adverts on bus shelters advertising 'Digikal TV' or quick boil Kekkle's or anything like that.

One word:

Nukular…
Wow, that's a big one for me too; can't believe I didn't think of it.

I'm still ROFL!

another vote against "axe". If I were ever to "go axe somone" I should expect to be promptly detained by the Provosts (hows that for a propper and old word for police) on a charge of attempted/premedited murder (dependant on where i axe them and the damage done by said axing)

another good one, especially near voting time;

Polital canvisser (PC) - "can I ask you who you'll be voting for?"
me - "Yes"
PC - bemused/befuddled look on face and dramatic pause... "can I ask you who you'll be voting for?"
Me - "yes, certainly."
PC - more puzzled look on face... "can I ask you who you'll be voting for?"
Me - "yes."
PS - walks away looking thoroughly confused and muttering to themselves.

well they never actualy asked me whom i would vote for!

My dad says pusgetti instead of spagetti. It's because he can't hear well, so he mispronounces a lot of words. But, even after 40 years of it, we still crack up when he says it.

I swear, I once saw someone on the forums misspell definitely as defiantly. I checked, that person didn't mean defiantly, as in to defy, at all.

Oh, and could care less... no words, facepalm.

Then people in Sheffield are "retarded".

Oh, here's one that makes me cringe, "libary" instead of "library." <mumble>uneducated... lazy... wtf is wrong with you?</mumble>

Oh come on. The type of person who would say "libary" will probably never be looking for one. ;)

I'm going to get pissed on in this thread for asking this, because the answer may be something really obvious, but how would you say it?

The American spelling of Jewellery i.e. Jewelry (different to redwarriors 'jewlery') is so unequivocally wrong.

Damn, I didn'te ven realize that Americans spelt it like that. I always thought the American/wrong way lacked the second "l" (i.e. "Jewelery" instead of "Jewellery").

FAKE EDIT: Actually, my Dictionary Widget says "Jewelry" is the American spelling of the word, while "Jewelery" doesn't exist, which means I was wrong about the American spelling. However, "Jewelery" doesn't register as a spelling mistake in Firefox. Hmmm......

If someone is astounded and unable to grasp something they might say:

"I can't fathom that"
[unable to plumb the depths of that deep thought]

Unless you are that person I know that says:

"I can't phantom that"
[unable to hide it behind a ghostly entity???]

WTF??

I could care less..>ARHGHG - it's you COULDN'T care less.

Although depending on context maybe the person did mean they could actually care less than they do right now :)

My pet peeve is then and than. But also they're/their, your/you're, to/too,... too many to mention :)
