Hmm,
iMac, iMac Pro
Macbook, Macbook Pro
Could this mean a Mac to go with the Mac Pro?

If that is the case I will be getting an iMac Pro in the future rather than a Mac Pro :D

Wow, mini towers, touch screens, blu-ray... you're all waaaay off. Don't even get me started on javaguy's post...

Here's the real skinny, which I got from a guy who knows a guy who was a guy who saw a guy who heard a guy that knows some stuff:

Steve Jobs is going to reveal at the WWDC that the iMac has been secretly shipping with a built in Flux Capacitor since the WDDC last year. Just like the 802.11n chips in the MacBooks. Combined with Time Machine, you can totally use your iMac to travel in time. Or, combined with iMovie, you can make an awesome trilogy starring Michael J. Fox.

Why, oh why is there not a Conroe based Mac? It is the ultimate desktop chip and Apple doesn't have it in their line up!

It is a rather interesting omission. Perhaps they are getting better prices by buying more of the same processor or find it easier to deal with a small amount of variations in their product lines.

i dont mind the look of the old emacs the white and clear plastic pyramid shaped moniters. Friendly looking and easy to use/have in the lounge, kitchen wherever....

I guess with a flat LED screen nowadays. What about basically a macmini set-up at the base of a cinema display in 20 and 23" configs. So basically a hotted up mini station with a moniter base joined on underneath it and going up above it??

Nah, gunna, happen. Apple has never released a consumer orientated Mac update at WWDC, and they will not change that scenario just because an immenient update to the iMac is planned. Just like the recent laptop updates, they will simply release them to the world on Tuesday, along with the G6 Powerbooks using the latest variant of the Power6 CPU from IBM

iMac Pro

my general idea of what an iMac Pro would be

24" or 30" screen (optional hi res)
single quad core processor
2gigs rams upgradable to 4/6
upgradable hard drive(s) possibly two tray bays like the mac pro
some better GPU, not sure what would be suitable (or what apple "thinks" is suitable)
1 pci express slot

I think some people took my mid-tower comment the wrong way.

I'm not against the idea of a mid-tower; I just don't believe Apple will release one.

Everyone seems to want a cheap (sub-$1000) Mac minitower that is significantly more powerful than the current top of the line iMac.

Not going to happen at that price - maybe at $1899, but no chance at $899.

Good point. The price of a mini tower would have to be at least the price of a good imac without the monitor. Say about $1399. With upgrades, about $1999.

Then I could buy a 30" monitor and get out for about $3,500 total before tax.

I think that this price would be appropriate.

All I want is top of the line imac specs and the option to buy a 30" monitor.

:) :) :)

The iMac is nice but it is a laptop fused to monitor. Why not just buy the laptop, at least then you get the portability?
Maybe because after the update, a 20" iMac will cost less than half the price of a 17" MBP with similar specs. Not to mention the availability of much larger and faster HDs for the iMac.

I haven't read all of this thread so someone has probably mentioned it already, but the Alu iMac idea would fit with that earlier story about the new iMacs having a "striking new industrial design" that I think AppleInsider was talking about (and there is a huge thread on Macrumors about).

I think Al is the logical choice for all their machines (the white = consumer, Al = pro doesn't really mean anything any more), but I think the new iMac would have to look a bit different to the standard Al displays. There needs to be clarity between different bits of hardware.

I'm picking then that they will retain a small chin (SMALL chin) and maybe something else as well. They'd certainly be fatter than the cinema displays.

The problem is that they wouldnt launch a new industrial desing by updating the store. there has to be a large event. and if they dont come at wwdc which it seems will be the case then i reckon it will be at least an another month till we see them. which means another month of using os x 10.1.5 for me.  :( :(

I just hope your namesake doesn't design the new iMac

If this turns out to be true, I'd love to see a new matching keyboard, with dedicated hot keys for Dashboard, Expose and Spaces.

Bring back the old G4 design! With a bit of modern day improvement such as larger screen, updated internal hardware, built in iSight and Front Row there would be absolutely no doubt that it would be the greatest machine around.

That was my favourite design, i got so upset when they dropped it.

Yes, that would be nice. But I'm not sure Apple would do it. Look at the iPods for example - I have a 1st gen black iPod nano, and the other week I switched from the white headphones to a Sony set of black ones because they have better sound. But the first thing I noticed was how super-cool the iPod and headphones now looked being all in black. Brilliant! However Apple have never been good at this (look at all the mismatches between black and white keyboards and grey plastic G4 towers and metal G5/Mac Pro towers) so I don't expect them to start anytime soon.

They would never go back. But I'm constantly surprised by the amount of people who liked the old G4 iMac. Yeah, moving the screen was cool, but the half-basketball base was pretty lame, IMHO.

Diamond case!

Also the whole computer should be made of gold.

Yuck, gold is far too soft, you'd have dents & scratches just from breathing on it.

I say go for diamond! Hardest case ever, excellent thermal conductivity, bling up the wazoo, and should be very cheap with today's industrial synthetic diamond production.

Did I mention the bling?

"Dude, you're getting a Dell!"

"F@*# that, man, I got a diamond-encrusted Mac!" :p
