iMac as entertainment center

I envision the future of the iMac to be more of an entertainment style computer. With the operability of Front Row and the bigger screens coming down the line, an all in one iMac with a built-in TV tuner could easily replace a plasma screen TV/DVD player in the living room and have the ability of :apple: TV as well. Hook that up to your sound system and you have a fabulous, elegant home theatre system that plays all your music, movies, and TV shows as well as displaying photos and running email and web surfing from the living room couch. I see a mini tower filling the role of the desktop iMac. Of course I don't see this happening anytime soon, but...

Why brushed aluminum and not anodized aluminum? I thought Apple was fazing out the brushed aluminum look in their GUI, they took it out of iTunes at least.

I acknowledge your effort in making a mockup. But I really hope it doesn't look like that. I understand that's probably not exactly the way you want it to look. Creating realistic looking mockups can be a pain, but I would try using more gradients and give it a more rounded feel. Good attempt though. :)

doesn't make sense

if apple is planning to make the imac anodized aluminum it doesn't make sense... it will put the imac into the visual category of a pro model, then what would be the purpose of the mac pro?

apple's whole philosophy is about keeping things simple. making the imac a pro model without releasing a new model to replace it at the average user level is a complete change in that philosophy.

the rumor may be true, but in my mind it is incomplete.

I've heard a lot of people mention this, but all I can think is...so? Not like the iMac is going to be confused with the Mac Pro. And I don't think Apple has ever said that only the 'pro' machines get the aluminum look. If an iMac looks better with it, I can't see any reason not to do it.

Hang on. BMW concept CS, 5 series, 3 series coupe. Superb looking cars. I would love it if my imac looked like a 5 series. ;) :D :)

honestly, i really don't like bmw's. The only part about the car I do like is the engineering. the company ensures their cars are engineered for performance, durability, consistency, etc.

everything else {exterior, interior, smell, sound, feel} is off-putting to me.

so in that respect, apple is not a bmw for me :D

CDW.ca

there seems to me lots of the old iMac on CDW inventory... and shows many on way as well... not sure if we will see new iMacs or not at WWDC.. hope so, even a Midrange tower would suit me fine... Probably that would excite me more... Hope there is something. you can check inventory at www.CDW.ca

Who buys a Mac from CDW?

1. Please replace IMG with timg, and /img with /timg (like I have in the quote)

2. Apple's designs are symmetrical, and that really works, so I doubt they would do something like that...

How is that not symmetrical?

(Thanks for the TIMG tip)

Something different

I truly hope they make the styling something that can blend in with a home theatre system. I really like black or metal instead of the white plastic.
