What should i do guys?
Well I just ordered a 24" iMac...gutted! Is it worth cancelling and then reordering when this becomes official? God knows if they will let me do it - I ordered through a reseller.
To be honest, they seem thin enough as they are. I probably wouldn't need it any faster. But will it be cheaper (spec wise)? Or will the design be that much better that it would make me look at mine in a bad way? Why the hell don't they let people know earlier??? But then I suppose there will always be that line of one day not-knowing and then the next finding out. The speculation is killing me!
So, is cancelling a medium spec 24" imac worth it people? If it is just going to be replaced with similar models (okay, and maybe a different colour/finish) and a spec equivalent that is cheaper ( so that i could slightly upgrade for the same price) then waiting another month or two (including shipping) is not worth it.
However, if the new iMac/Mac/iMac Pro/Mac Cinema features a completely new design that blows away the current models and/or includes completely new features/hardware that I will surely miss out on (because I don't upgrade often) such as a new interface (multi-touch), blue ray drive, a significantly higher resolution display, or anything else that someone can think of - then it may be worth going through the whole cancelling ordeal.
Bottom line - spec isn't too important, and a chinless aluminium iMac I can get over. New features that I will miss - i play the waiting game! Ideas on either guys?
Finally, I realise this is a little self orientated so i thought i would put forward my opinions:
The idea of calling it a "Mac" seem perfectly logical as mentioned above to fall in-line with all the other models' names out there.
I agree with most that the chin has to go so that it fits in-line with apple's constant further minimalism evolution of products. However, the idea of a little chin to give the screen a solid base look and make it look more like a computer is feasible.
Surely it doesn't need to be any thinner, the difference between it and the cinema displays is minimal and no one needs those precious extra mm behind the computer except those few who wall mount them. Any thinner and it may lose that look of well built machine and turn it into a flimsy LCD lookalike. I say, keep the volume and use it to upgrade specs - just as others have mentioned.
I don't know much about spec upgrade predictions so i wont say anything on that.
After looking at all the above - basically an aluminium (brushed/sand blasted..whatever) cinema display with a better spec and a fancy new keyboard, it doesn't quite stay true to the apple style upgrades of it's iMacs. Although they have done it with the Powerbook/Macbook Pro.
