The UK Apple website is now stating "4 days" to ship a standard configuration 24" iMac. So what I want to know is, does this mean that the refresh is coming within a couple of weeks? If that?!

This is surely a big giveaway!!!

***UPDATE:
It's 4 day shipping throughout Europe for the 24" iMac. Australia, Korea, US all still shipping within 24 hours.

4 day delivery on a standard 24" mac... but the 2.33Mhz is still delivered in 3 days... seems strange te me.

It's going to be July 24th:

1) Intel drops its prices on the 22nd.
2) $100 off your printer with a mac :apple: deal ends the 23rd.
3) Discount on .Mac :apple: promo ends the 23rd.
4) Best buy coupon off iPods deal ends the 23rd.
5) There is sufficient time after iPhone to prevent interference.
6) There is sufficient time before school to get back to school sales.
7) Several of :apple:s products will have newly set records for longest time between updates by then, particularly the iMac (which means we're getting something good; the previous record for iMac was set before they introduced the G5 iMac).
8) Several stores are running out of :apple: products.

And lastly....

8) July 24th is a Tuesday. :apple: usually releases on Tuesday or Wednesday.
It will happen. July 24th. It is coming.

...You might just be right. Pity about the .Mac promo, though. :p

Well I'm actually quite relieved Apple waited so long to update the iMac...It's kept the one I bought last October cutting edge :D

Something is in the works.

Here in Canada you can finally purchase the C2D iMac in the Refurb area. Up until today this has not been possible. Looks like they're clearing all available stock whether new or refurb'd.

I like July 24th, but as with every other prediction, I won't hold my breathe. Each month as some speculation or report. As a few other have said, when they're released they'll be available. I do hate this waiting game though.

Prediction:

-name change
-stick with 1Gig RAM
-250 Hard Drive will be the norm
-not brushed aluminum - Apple likes playing with black - maybe they'll go with a graphite / carbon look trimmed with the brushed aluminum, or backside the brushed aluminum for venting
-chin will get spread between the top and bottom...with a stand allowing it to sit horizontally or vertically...visually pleasing either way
-don't see touchscreen happening until early 2008 - first revision of the new machine after 10.5...tough one to predict...but i don't think it's a critical agenda item for the next release of the 'imac'. Possibly on the revision in early 2008...MacBook Pro first though.
-bluetooth keyboard with a track pad built onto it. Meh...

anywho, maybe this is more of a forward thinking wish list. I really see Apple wanting to take over all areas of electronics in the home. This next unit is probably going to bridge that nicely.

iMac is comming in october with leopard :(

I don't see why an iPod rebate offer precludes new iMacs from coming out in the interim.

Well, July 24th may only be the U.S. date, or an announce date with shipment starting in a few days. There's a British deal that ends the 30th, for example. Also, Apple wouldn't want to interfere with an iPhone launch outside of the states, if one is soon. (Canada comes to mind.)

Since I live in the states, though, I don't have to worry about that. I want a new mac that works (unlike my old one w/ Mac OS 9 and dead keyboard.)

I definately think things are beginning to fit into place for the iMac this month. 24th July sounds good. But, to be honest, I'm not as bothered about the new iMac now because I've just got my hands on a brand new MacBook Pro from the Apple Store! Still looking forward to it though... ;)

Well iPhone doesn't come out in the UK till much later in the year so I don't think they'll wait until then to release a new iMac! I'm with owen-b, I don't understand why all these "deals" should mean the new iMac won't be coming... It'll be simple for Apple to exclude the new iMac from any "deal", and whilst the new iMac will probably be great, not everyone wants to be confined to a desktop. If anything, it can only help bring attention to Apple and all of the new cool products it is shipping...

...not everyone wants to be confined to a desktop.
And that's why I'll be keeping my G4 Powerbook whose portability is currently wasted as it's usually tied to my desk by an ethernet cable, power cable, keyboard USB, Wacom pad USB, hard drive firewire and DVI cable...

Roll on the iMacs!

Wow... that was the best prediction that I have ever read. You could just possibly be right!

I hope you are right, but Intel is dropping their DESKTOP processors on July 22nd. As we all know the current iMac uses the MOBILE line of processors. So unless Apple's new design includes the switch to much less expensive DESKTOP internals, that date isn't significant for a new iMac.

According to this article, MOBILE processors will see a September price cut.

I think we will see a Intel Core 2 Quad in at least the 24" iMac. Of course, just a guess.

Makes me think the iPod update will come in September, and/OR the new macs will not be qualifying macs.

Thank you, I've thought it out.

Probably means iMac will finally have desktop power. The laptops and mac mini will possibly see an update then though.

New hardware would precipitate a proper press event to announce it, right? Well, how late do Apple leave it before issuing the invites to such events, generally? Because, the 24th July is 10 days away and nobody seems to have been invited to anything...

Desktop processors in an enclosure as diminutive as the iMac's, or even smaller if the speculation about new designs is true??? Hmmm...
