iPhone SE in iPhone 13 mini form factor with no notch and Touch ID in the power button for $499 would be like the original iPhone all over again. I don’t think Apple has the “courage” to do it. But they should. Of course I won‘t use Android anymore but the iPhone SE is a little too outdated at this point. Clearly some people still like it, maybe they could keep it on at $399, but I just can’t recommend it to anyone that doesn’t value the Touch ID Home Button above all else.

I’m using Touch ID a lot on my daily use ( i stil have an iPhone 7 Plus) , so if i will upgrade i will consider an iPhone SE ...
Cheers

Which phone will still be getting updates 5 years down the line?

Never mind how much more poorly it will run that 5th version of iOS than it runs the current version of iOS... I own plenty of old iPhones, some of which I have updated to the latest supported version, and others not. It's been my experience that there comes a point where upgrading feels more like a liability.

The form-factor of the SE alone is effectively 5 years out-of-date. There's no gesture-based navigation, it has large bezels, relatively low pixel density LCD screen, nearly 1/4 of the charging speed through a slower data port. The iPhone SE is a perfectly fine phone, but it really is a budget-phone experience at a non-budget price. Now, the fluidity if iOS itself carries the experience quite a bit. No question that it's a level above Android in all facets of user interaction and overall polish. However, Android is perfectly fine, and the better picture quality (of the display) of the 6A will contribute more to the user experience. The so-called benefits of the Apple ecosystem is also vastly overstated, and pretty much anyone who only uses Apple devices could switch to an Android phone and adapt with little friction. I'm pretty sure that the majority of iPhone users use a Windows computer anyways.

The reality is that the SE is just not competitive for what else you can get at the same tier. Personally, I would rather be on the look out for a good deal in the near future on an imported Nothing 1 phone than the 6A though.

I own the current SE and it works as advertised. I actually very much like the low profile form factor combined with the latest hardware inside. Great for those late evening subway rides back from cinema that don't need to attract unwanted attention. I don't need to impress anybody I just use it. The camera is much improved over the 6S I had before.

Products like the iPhone SE drive me away Apple. I have a feeling I've been had, when i look at this product.

While I like the formfactor, CPU and OS, the device should look like the Nothing phone Nowadays.

Just a simple phone without FaceId (expensive), but with an edge to edge display and integrated TouchID.

Such a phone should be an easy task for Apple. But Apple just doesn‘t want to create a phone that is up to date, while beeing cheaper and smaller.

The Pixel is just not very sexy! Apples design wins every time. Although I buy and use it for the easiness and user interface, the design matters! Especially as I am not buying new stuff all the time, and it has to work for some years…

I would take thick bezels above and below the screen any time over notches, punchholes or rounded display corners. Is it too much too ask the a screen is rectangular, so that each row of pixels has exactly the same amount of pixels? I hate rounded corners so much that I would even choose an iPhone SE over and iPhone 14 Pro Max, if they had the same price. It was good that Apple got rid of Jonathan Ive, but they should fire many more designers who prioritize form over function. Sadly other smartphone manufacturers copy all those bad designs by Apple. Today it is almost impossible to still get at least mid class smartphone without rounded display corners or some intrusive cameras. Who needs a front camera anyway? If I want to know how I look, I just need a mirror.

I am glad that Apple still produces one smartphone model with a screen how it should be, even if it is LCD.

The blurring of the foreground objects is broken on the iPhone. Look at the cup he is holding. The hand and lower part of the cup is completely blurred out. The lid however is crips as heck. Looks strange to me.

It’s very easy to diss the iPhone SE. it’s just outclassed in almost any comparison due to the outdated design and parts.

Why not compare the Pixel 6a with the iPhone 11? Seems like a more apt contender.

And no, $400+ is not budget. That’s mid range. Budget is under $300. Apple never plays in budget segment.

I find it amusing how people get so worked up over form factors and aesthetics of devices that are virtually the same. One is a slab the other a slab with edges. Just goes to prove again how people have been trained to want change for changes sake. It also reinforces the idea that the market is past maturity where the only glaring differences are aesthetic.

Semi-disagree. Android has come a long way and is nothing like the early days. Their software is actually pretty great now.

But they're still Google. I don't trust them not to do weird stuff. Like this Google Pay / Google Wallet debacle of the last several years. Apple may not be exciting sometimes but at least they can stick to a plan and be consistent.

The problem with the Pixel 6a is that it feels quite slow and laggy to use with its 60 Hz OLED screen, yet the Iphone SE3 with its own 'inferior' 60 Hz LCD screen is very fast and snappy. Amazon UK are selling the regular Pixel 6 for £450 ish, so your far better off getting this instead with its 90 Hz screen.

The Pixel 6a takes very good pictures though no doubts about that.
You’ve got a pre-release Pixel 6a?

Personally, I prefer the product in which the OS is fully integrated with the hardware (as both are made by the same company). Above all, the best feature of the iPhone is its security, and the fact that it does not compromise my privacy by monetizing everything I do on the device.
Pixels are, indeed pretty integrated with the OS, you know. Both are made by the same company. And what on earth makes you think Apple doesn't monetise everything you do on the device, is it just the ads or something. I mean, it's just what apple says isn't it? Every single tech company is selling your data and and what apple ads say is just bs. And the only way you can solve it is by using open source software like linux.

But ApPle giVES upDATES FOR 5 Years Or MRE! LOL
Most apple devices batteries lost over 30% battery life if they go into their 4th birthday. Making them slow overall over years of usage/throttled.

Honestly i dont care about either device, i got iphones for the past 6 years from my employers ranging from iphone 6 to my current iphone 11, and honestly i dont use my iphone that much beside some pics, emails and a few calls per year but that is me.

I do think there are plenty of chinese made android phones which are cheaper and significantly better then both of this article.

In both the software choose the wrong white balance. Easy as pie to fix. The iPhone over saturates, but that is also an easy fix.

Whoa! The iPhone has a Tilt-Shift lense?😲 I'd buy one just for that!🥰

All joking aside, I'd turn off the fake bokeh feature and fake it in PS. 10,000,000,000% better results over trusting the questionable AI.😉

Pixel vs iPhone of any version I wish we could get their camera in the iPhone. I do not take outdoor scenery photos very often, but the Pixel is better at capturing indoor realistic pictures of people. The photos are both more accurate and look better overall. My family member with a Pixel is basically the one who supplies us with pics after birthday parties, holidays. We all pool our pics into a shared album and it's always abundantly clear the best pics were from the Pixel. He gets a new one every 2-3 years. I get a new iPhone yearly.

If I were starting over with no ecosystem investment, I would go Pixel all the way just for the camera.

Movies are a different story. Outdoor shots in perfect lighting are a different story. iPhone wins there, but I don't really use it for that.

Fair

I’m hoping the 48mp 14 pro with a massive sensor can be a good improvement over the 13 pro. Felt it lacked in key areas for 13 pro line

The thing about Android is that when a device gets it right, it really shines as a platform. I switched away from iPhone for a few years with an original Moto X and the Moto X2. Absolutely wonderful experience with both devices. I got non-stop comments about how much better the X2 looked than the iPhone the entire time I had it. I was using someones Pixel 4a the other day and I still think Android does notifications and widgets 10x better than iOS. It's just so hard to beat Apple's full hardware/software integration. My iPhone 12 Pro really does just work 99.95% of the time.
Count me as another Moto X and X 2014 fan... Those were my favourite phones for a long time, until Google sold Motorola to Lenovo (I wonder if they regret that move?).

The Moto software was great, with its minimal customization over Android, and the extra features were so useful. Voice control, where it would read your texts aloud, and let you reply by voice, ahead of Google and Siri at the time... wave-to-wake, to see the time and notifications without having to touch the phone... "chop-chop" to activate the flashlight, and more.

Sadly, as official support ended for those particular models, and their processors became too slow to run LineageOS, they had to be retired. Although the Razor flip phone is intriguing, Lenovo's version of Moto has stagnated. I wish Google would buy the company back and return it to its former glory.
