Probably that's exactly what all of them were expecting, too. Unless you happen to have a baseball bat about your person, it's a bit of a tall order for anyone untrained to take on a killer armed with a large knife.
Probably right. I should add to my further post that I'm not saying that anybody should have tackled him, just that I'm surprised nobody did.

I've been the type of guy to walk toward the guy with the knife/crow bar/brick/etc. in the past without really thinking it through, as I've had know training. Luckily I've never been badly hurt each time, and it should be said that those guys have always been threatening rather than just acted out any threat.

this is terrible. Poor passengers, and poor guy.

I'm sure there is a logical explanation, though. Things like this never happen completely randomly with no cause.

What an unfair thing to say "only in Canada." Just last week here in Chicago someone through acid on a woman in a robbery attempt. She can't see or talk and had to be hospitalized. Bizarre, unspeakable acts can happen anywhere!

It sounds like the basis for a film.

P.S. Only in Canada.

Yes, only in Canada are there brutal murders - nowhere else in the world.

It's amazing that in this day and age there is still such ignorance and insensitivity in this world. Sad, really...

Damn...That's sick, so sick I can't express my true feelings without having the words blocked out by the profanity filter. I kind of reminds of a story I read in the beginning of last school year in English class; except that in the case that this thread is based on, the attacker seems to have been off his meds, as opposed to a bored teenager who also seems to have a severe mental problem. We actually read the story about the British teen because our summer reading was Lord of the Flies.

so what to do with the murderer. i mean he seem to be sick and when he's on meds he's ok. lock him up forever? with med it's like locking up a different person. without meds is cruel. this seems to be a case where in some way two lifes are lost. i don't even know if i should hate and despise the guy or if i should simply feel pity for him.

Whoa......
My dying interest in gaming retards even faster now....

Possibly the least appropriate post in this thread.

Yep. And it's iPod not I-pod.

Yes, it maybe the least appropriate post in the thread, but do bear in mind it is a MacRumors, to which the world revolves around Apple. I was just speaking my mind, trying to pull some slight Harmless humor, of a tragic story. I apologize if it offended anyone.

@ Mcarnes - Sorry, forgive my iGrammer.

And have a 99% chance of failing. That's not heroism; it's idiocy and foolishness compounded by unnecessary risk.

Well I disagree. Not doing anything is failing 100% every time. You don't have to be a killer kickboxer trained in martial arts or a cop to do anything.

Trust me I would not sleep well knowing that I may have got a cut arm but didn't and some guy died because of it. I have intervened in a stabbing in progress and nothing happened other than no-one died. What special knife aversion training did I have? Same as you - none.

Oh, another Winnipeger with a knife. Taser didn't work, so they had to shoot him.

Terrible shots ... he's dead.

Well, tasers don't always work - apart from a malfunction they may have missed or heavy clothing got in the way.

But, uh, police are trained to shoot to kill - multiple rounds to the chest. There's no other "right" way to do it, except in Hollywood. That's why they call it "deadly force". If they survive it's pure luck.
