So has Squally been arrested yet? :p

No. Nothing has happened yet. And I still doubt it will. No permission needed to use the funds. If the funds are fraudulent without his knowing, the Poles are at fault.

I think this is, in fact, an unscrupulous play by UPS to garner $900/month indefinitely to hold onto items that cannot ever be shipped.

Well played, UPS. Well played indeed.

Also, Squilly, doesn't it in any way strike your brother as, oh, I don't know, somewhat odd that these businessmen would establish an account that he could empty without anyone stopping him and then dump $160,000 into it?

If his name is on the account, and the money is legitimate, then he could just take it all, legally I believe, without consequence - which of course is why you need to be careful about joint accounts. So hey, return the items to Apple or whatever that 3rd party was and just run off with the $160K.

Because that's illegal. Even if it's not, it's immoral as ****.

So taking money and not sending a product is wrong, but violating US export laws isn't?

Isn't that like saying shipping something from the US to the UK from a sake over eBay is illegal? To answer your question, bad but not as bad.

How did the "real life" meeting happen ?

What do you think made the "poles" (as far as we know they could be from Romania, a hotspot for internet scams) choose your brother to do business with, over any other US retailer ?

This thread is either some serious A-grade trolling, or like a car crash in slow motion.

So the difference between right and wrong, legal and illegal, to you, is on a scale?

Meaning, its okay to break the law depending on the severity of the crime, in your eyes. Is that what you're saying?

Why would the Poles be at fault when your brother's name is on the account. Wouldn't they come after your brother after it was shown he was withdrawing funds?

(I presume that sake was supposed to be sale).

Just because something can be sold on eBay, it doesn't make the sale legal, nor does it make it exportable or even shippable legally or safely even within the same country.

e.g. http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/ship/hazardous/common_items.html

The specific details matter, what was sold and where/how is it being shipped.

EDIT: eBay has this to say.

When selling internationally, be sure to read our guidelines on international trading and import restrictions. Although certain items may be legal to sell in your country, they might be illegal elsewhere.

This thread is still going?! These kind of things usually die while I'm asleep.

God, I never rated Squilly as a businessman (no offence), but seriously, if you can't see that this is a scam I really have no hope for your 3D printed conglomerate of Italian chipotle fast food stores.

If this was a way to earn $20k, everyone would be doing it. This isn't a once in a lifetime opportunity. This isn't a way to make quick bucks. And this isn't something you should even be considering doing.

Let me try and make this clear:

This is 100% a scam.

Not tempting enough, sorry.

No idea. It's been getting delayed time and time again.
I'm confused. "Time and time again"suggests this deal has been going on much longer than this thread. How long has this been going on?

Nope. Your brother's identity is all over the bank account. I love that this fact has been missed repeatedly. I love how I've thrown out what the so-called Poles can do with his identity even after your brother completes whatever this transaction is, but nope, it is all ignored.

Also, your brother bought something with the money already, an iPad. That pretty much continues to dig the hole deeper.

So you are aware that such words as immoral and illegal exist?

And I quote from my brother when he read that: "stupid guy"
This is rich. Your brother hardly seems to be the authority on labeling someone stupid. It is great that he knows of the word, now he simply needs to apply it to himself.

Can we get some ages here? How old are you and how old is esteemed brother?
I see no reason for WL.
You weren't around for the epic tale of gregdrummer, but I have to tell you, I haven't seen another worthy thread go this long in ages. I took a big one for the team there, somehow I am commending myself for behaving here, but even still ... I am so happy to hear this isn't going to WL yet. :D

No, my brother thinks he's the know it all and everyone else is wrong regardless.
That attitude will serve him well in jail. Hell, even if he doesn't see jail time, that attitude will serve him well in life. These type of folks don't get very far.

MOD NOTE: The surefire way this thread will get closed or sent to Wasteland (along with other potential ramifications) is if you start attacking Squilly personally as opposed to his actions or posts.

Speeding is against the law. Robbing a bank is against the law. So yeah.

Yes I am. And we're both 18.

Thank you.

Then how can you think it's okay to break US export laws in this "deal" of yours?

Mindset of not getting caught?

Mindset of not getting caught?

Is that your statement or are you asking a question?

Suppose you get caught, will that be your excuse to the prosecution and judge? Do you think they will understand and let you off?

In my defense, regarding any ad hominem attacks, my question of age wasn't on a personal level but more so on a level of understanding. This entire thread can be summed up best by stating that two people wish to perform a transaction netting a lump sum of cash. Of those two people, one showed a slight amount of reluctance and turned to a familiar community for advice. In doing so, the advice seeker has shown a level of stubbornness and indifference to the advice given. Later, the second party to the transaction is essentially being labeled as the one who is stubborn and indifferent. This second person, as we know, is not a member of this community.

As a result, my curiosity of age was peeked because I was under the impression that we were looking at big brother/little brother and the little brother is our community member. I wanted to understand that Squilly's portrayal of his brother's disregard for advice better. I find, in my old age, that I am a bit more stubborn even when I am not intending to be. When I was younger, I found myself easier to influence and I believe that if I were in Squilly's shoes, I could be tempted to make decisions based solely on what is said to me by a pack of strangers online.

Therefore, it was me trying to get a baseline rather than make a personal attack or even chalk this up to youth. In fact, I was chalking this up to a stubborn 20-something year old who really had not yet figured out that there is still a lot to learn in life, even in your 20's.

I apologize if you or anyone else took the age question as anything more than what I intended it to be.
