My grandma does this with sofas. Every time she buys a new sofa, which is once in 30 years, she covers it with ugly protective blankets. Because of that she never fully enjoys her sofas.

IMHO if it’s an investment for you, e.g. a tool for your work that makes you profit, then I suppose it’s worth protecting with an ugly case. But if it’s something you buy to use and enjoy for yourself, as an consumable, isn’t it a little bit silly to be overprotective with it, as you won’t really enjoy it fully. Especially with Apple products when hardware look & feel is so important part ot the experience.

I use a case with my iPhone XR. Not because I want to protect it per se, but because that thing is so damn slippery it’s unusable without a case.

This is just a friendly reminder that there’s no need to protect your Apple investment with a case. This applies to iPhones as well. Today, I accidentally smacked my Apple Watch against a door at work. Nothing happened. Just like the last time I did that. I would have freaked out if I did crack it, but I didn’t because the glass is quite tough and I don’t swing my arms around like a raging gorilla when I walk. Stop being stubborn and spending extra money on expensive, useless cases already!

Also, kinetic energy do transfer from one substance to another. My old iPhone XS Max had all four corners dent and scratched despite using a case daily. Granted, it is not a very protective case, but if that can still create dent, Apple Watch case will do the same.
Your “case” may not offer the protection you are looking for.

Never had a case on anything, never will. I’ve only ever dropped 2 phones since the OG iPhone and AppleCare covered them with minimal investment!

All watches are likely to get marked anyway, and Apple watches aren’t a long enough term investment to need to protect (in my opinion).

This case has worked out well for me. Been on the apple watch for 8 month now. Doesn't make any bulkier.

I cannot use a full case for my phone since I prefer to be able to appreciate the design. Protection for phones is important, however I would rather enjoy using my phone than prioritize its potential resale value.

I use a case on my iPhone.
Thats it.
Everything else I would rather just pay for Apple Care.
I've tried MacBook shells, and absolutely hate them. They scuff up the corners and edges of the aluminum, and they just feel cheep.
Also, I've had the same Apple Watch Series 5 since 2019, and it's not cracked, dented, or really damaged in any way. The last thing I'd want to do is cover it, make it even thicker, just so the case can break and get replaced every time it bumps something. The watch hasn't shown any signs it can't hold up on its own.
I also never use screen protectors because I always end up getting annoyed and removing them, and getting a cracked screen replacement is basically the same price as going through 4 or 5 screen protectors so... I just don't think its worth the trade off.

Only times I put one on my phone is if I know I’m going out doing something a bit more rowdy than everyday office/home-life.

Phone is made with premium materials for someone to enjoy and I’d rather it be me than some 2nd hand buyer I don’t plan on having anyway.

3 and a half years and it still looks like new if you don’t actively start looking for scuffs.

Plus it’s big enough without the case.

And the watch. It’s a watch, traditionally a design piece, even if it’s an Apple Watch and not a Rolex. I don’t want it to look worse.

For my 13 Pro, I use the Apple Clear Case. You can barely tell there is a case on it (I have on occasion dropped the phone on concrete, asphalt, and tile. The case has "saved my bacon" more than once.
My Watch Ultra? No case at all. The titanium body and sapphire crystal have proved extremely rugged (which is sort of the point).

Tempered glass is all a gimmick IMO.
Sure, it saves from micro scratches, but I feel they are designed to crack very easily, making the user think it saved their handset and hence purchasing and using another. In practice, the main phone screen wouldn’t have cracked at all. I used a tempered protector for a while and didn’t like it, so removed it again. I do use a case on my phone but no screen protector - the same goes for my watch too.

5+ years with aluminium watches and no case, and still no damage to any of them. I do use those thin film screen protectors and replace those every 6 months or so, but the watch still scrapes on walls and gets dinged in doorways, etc. You must have seriously smashed your arm into the wall to crack the glass.

Go
You are free to put a case on whatever device of yours you want, but demanding others that they have to use a case is not really your concern. I do have a case on my iPhone, but I will never put a case on my beautiful Gold SS Apple Watch. The Sapphire screen is more than strong enough for all of the times I have banged it on a door or wall. There are also no scratches on the watch screen either. If there ever is damage to any of my Apple devices, I have AppleCare+ to have it repaired at a small cost.
gold ss apple watch? I never heard of that model is that a custom watch🧐🤨
