Should I buy now or wait?

It's simple: the next gen will always be better. So never buy an AW but always wait for the next one. Someday you will be dead and never owned an AW...

Seriously: there is no tomorrow. There is only now. So if you like the AW : buy one.
This thread is a month old...

2ND Gen, will have same design but better specs, third generation will have design change. Same as IPhone
We've had the "2nd gen" already. It was a few new colors. Wouldn't be surprised if the next few gens are the same: A different look is all the watch needs to give sales a periodic kick.

I don't see the tech in the watch being annually upgraded. It would create unnecessary fragmentation for app writers and Apple's own hardware support organization. The watch is a much smaller market than the iPhone. It's not an "essential" product like the iPhone. Buying behavior and motivations are completely different.

Hi, just after a few opinions on if I should buy my partner and myself an Apple Watch now (as a Christmas present) or if I should wait until mid to late 2016 for the 2nd gen? From what I have read, it appears there are rumored to be a few additions with the 2nd gen (Facetime camera etc).

Thoughts?

Does the current watch meet your needs? Then get it. You'll always be waiting for the next gen. I have one and the biggest omission for me personally is the lack of GPS. However, that hasn't actually made a big difference for me as of yet, because I like to listen to podcasts/audiobooks while a run and right now those require a tethered iPhone. Hoping for updated audible/overcast.... but then I might still bring my iPhone for GPS.

Wait for the 4th generation. That'll be the sweet spot. Or 5th.
Actually, don't buy it. You'll never be happy.

I decided to get a watch now - Since it has just been release in India, I don't think Apple Watch 2 is round the corner. Wether to wait for new features or not, is up to you, but like others mentioned, this would probably keep you from ever buying an Apple Watch/iPhone etc.

Actually 6th gen will be better, it will have brain control, just ask Siri in your brain, it will answer on your AW.

One of my coworkers said today that he's made up his mind. He will buy an AW, but he's going to wait until the next generation, which he read will be released in July of next year.

Still a rumor.

If he waits that long and it doesn't get updated, will he keep waiting just in case V2 is released in September instead?

See how this goes? Just get this one if you think you'll like it. When V2 drops, you'll at least learn the planned upgrade cycle, so you know (roughly) how long to wait for V3.

I just purchased mine this past saturday. I really enjoy it. I could have waited. I wanted one at launch but I really wanted a black s/s bsb. I had ordered a sg sport but canceled a day before it would have shipped. I'm glad I got the one I wanted. Now I can wait for watch 2 and see if I would really need those added features. I want lte option for my watch and better water proofing. Any other feature that I've seen listed wouldn't entice me to buy gen 2 watch.

Buy it now and enjoy it, it has lots to offer. If the next gen is available in 6 months time I will upgrade, if the next gen is available in 3 years time I will continue to enjoy gen 1 for another 3 years. Win Win :)

But thats just my opinion

MMM, I am just the same - audiobooks available offline on the watch is the key feature for me - I've been holding back on buying the watch due to this. However, I've just discovered Scirbd released an apple watch app for audiobooks - and they have a good audiobooks base. they are adding more and more titles - in April 2015 it was around 45,000 and I hope they will reach much more soon (Audible is said to be around 180,000). they have credit system same as Audible - but every audiobook costs just $8.99 so much less then on Audible. I am considering quitting Audible for now and signing with Scribd till Audible finally makes their own watch app. have you tried it? since I don't have my own apple watch yet I would love to hear someone's opinions on this app. screenshots look great - but does it work as smoothly as Audible - no idea:

I am seriously considering buying an Apple Watch to replace my Pebble Time watch but I am undecided on whether to get one now or wait until the rumored March announcement to see if Apple Watch 2 comes out?

Can't really afford the full asking price up front so was gonna take up Apple's 0% interest finance option on their Sports Watch. This would equate to only around £60 a month for 6 months (with Apple Care) which is a lot more manageable.

Thoughts as I am VERY stuck on what to do?!!!!!!

I would hang on if you can, you will still be paying for an old model by the time the new one comes out if you go down the finance route

Do we know they will be announcing a new one for sure? Wonder if they might wait a little longer since it's a watch, and one that can sell for upwards of $10K.
I went and picked one up at Best Buy for $100 off, which made it really easy to spring for one. Obviously that might not be the case in the UK.
If you could afford it all up front I'd say get one and enjoy it. Since you're going to finance it I would say wait.

The rumored announcement is March. That probably means September availability. Can you wait that long?
No necessarily, its quite possible and probable that the new watch would be available shortly after the announcement.

While it is still just a rumor of an announcement, in general on 2ed or later generation products Apple will only announce right before interdiction. Announcing a 2 gen (or later) product far ahead of release will kill the current generation sales.

If you are able to get a good deal on one with the Holidays, I would get it now. First of all you could always sell it and put those funds towards the new one. It is possible that they move the Apple Watch to the September release cycle as they did with the iPad when they introduced the iPad 3.
