Should I buy now or wait?

If you are able to get a good deal on one with the Holidays, I would get it now. First of all you could always sell it and put those funds towards the new one. It is possible that they move the Apple Watch to the September release cycle as they did with the iPad when they introduced the iPad 3.
I think B&H was offering $70 off plus $100 gift card right now. Plus all the Best Buy deals are a great way to get one now. As of right now, there is no date for a new one and my personal opinion is not soon. They still have a ways to go. Maybe Watch S with new material and bands with a full list price.

Just my guess. Buy for xmas and save a bunch. The next version may not be worth the difference in price compare to current model I like s lot.

I combined my AMEX points and the deep sale over at bh photo and ended up paying less than 170 bucks. That is a price I can live with the kinks in the growth for.

I would buy a cheap current gen knowing you will flip it for half the total value of the oem new cost at Apple. So I can still probably get every dime of real money I have in this watch out in March. I get a extended test drive and if it is not for me then I can move on.

I Plan to use it for work and keep me up to date on critical support issues at night to help wake me up while I am on call. I sleep like the death.

I am seriously considering buying an Apple Watch to replace my Pebble Time watch but I am undecided on whether to get one now or wait until the rumored March announcement to see if Apple Watch 2 comes out?

Can't really afford the full asking price up front so was gonna take up Apple's 0% interest finance option on their Sports Watch. This would equate to only around £60 a month for 6 months (with Apple Care) which is a lot more manageable.

Thoughts as I am VERY stuck on what to do?!!!!!!

The rumors were also pointing to September. There is no official release schedule for the watch.

If you could wait for 8 months already, you could wait for another 3. At least confirm there is or not gen 2.
Me, I need it on release day to help me sleep well.

I'm gonna come at this answer from a slightly different perspective. You want an Apple watch. I get it, a lot of people do. Did you see the 1 phrase from your post I picked out? You say you can't really afford the full asking price of an Apple Watch up front. To me that means "I can't afford it but I'm gonna buy it anyways and I'm going to indebt myself for the next 6 months to pay for it."

With that, I suggest you go buy one now and get every discount on it you can. For example, best buy has $100 off. That makes the 38mm $249 instead of $349. Or even better, wait until march and see if there is a bigger discount on gen 1 IF a gen 2 is announced. You say you can't afford the whole price, so it seems really dumb to go out and pay full price for a new one if it's released.

Sorry if you don't like my answer.

People may not like the answer, but is the best answer.

I just bought one myself. You can get them for the same price or cheaper than they are selling on eBay. Worried about the new? You could always sell it on eBay for the new model.

Your getting a better deal here. Your paying less for the same product. You could always just buy it now, and simply enjoy it until it no longer works.

I am in a similar predicament and my option is to wait.

I think especially since this is a 1st gen product, there is no point getting this far and not waiting for another 3/4 months for an announcement. You have a Pebble watch so this is not a must need device like a phone or a laptop is for work or personal usage.

Additionally you *could* go on eBay and buy a pre-owned Sports version if you really cannot wait. I was opting to do that but instead I just decided to hold on and save the money and get a nice Apple Watch w/Milanese loop.

The other main reason I want to wait is because I would like to see some improvements in the watch that I am not willing to compromise e.g. battery life, app speed, separation from iPhone

Don't ever wait for a new Apple product unless it's the phone. I debated waiting for the rumoured announcement for the second version but what are you going to gain? Slightly faster processor? FaceTime camera? Not enough to vouch a wait.

I'm loving mine. I'd get the Apple Watch now and wait for 3rd gen. I'm less concerned about the upgrade cycle because of the nature of the product.

Ok so I do really want an Apple watch this year, but am not sure if I should get it now, or hold off until possibly April. See my dilemma is that there seems to be so little known, or leaked, information. Speculation of things like better battery and sensors and possibly a FaceTime camera. I like the idea of better sensors, even a sleep sensor, which would require a better battery, but unless it is WAY improved I am still going to charge it every other night, and how good will my sleep data be if it is only every other night? And a FaceTime camera on my watch does not seem like something I would use that often, especially if it takes up screen area. What to do

It's hard to say what will happen. I expect that the primary improvement will be in the speed of the watch as the current one is slow enough to be frustrating. There may be some big new sensor addition, but nobody except a few people at Apple know that right now. There is no need for new sensors for sleeping - the current watch can do it just fine although there are relatively few apps at the moment. I tried one of them but realized that the Sleep Cycle app on my iPhone is better than any of them, and it's just a better routine for me to charge both devices next to my bed overnight even though the watch can go through the night most days with little trouble.

Prices right now are quite good for the watch if you look around. Is the several months of use you'd get now worth something to you? Or will you be torn up inside if a new watch is released and you don't have it?

I find that the watch basically takes an hour to get enough charge to last through a day. So for me, it works if I take off the watch when I wake up in the morning, put it on charger, go through my morning routines, and put it on when I leave the house. If your morning routines take less than an hour, you could try charging it a bit before going to bed, then charging it again in the morning.

if I was looking to get a tech watch now and Apple was my choice, I'd wait for the new Apple Watch. Nothing worse then buying something and a new generation get released 2 months later (example sake) but this is also depending on your budget.

If you got a best deal for first gen , go for it.
if not wait till March

Here's basically what I'm expecting in the 2nd gen:

-Faster processor (necessary)
-New sensors (to match Microsoft Band 2) and much improved fitness tracking
-Larger size option
-Ever-so-slightly thinner
-Facetime camera (which I could definitely do without)
-Greater overall independence from iPhone
-New bands and colors

What probably won't happen:

-Better battery life (the tech hasn't advanced much here)
-Severe form factor changes
-Total waterproofing
-Upgraded screen quality
-Lower prices

The albatross that I'm quietly hopeful to see:

-GPS

As a current Pebble Steel owner, I'm also on the fence given the $100 discounts floating around. Once I go to the Apple Watch I know there will be no returning to the Pebble, as the expanded abilities will be appreciated. However, given the obvious limitation of the current product, it would seem that the 2nd gen should be a much better overall device with incremental improvements in several areas. It could end up being much like the Microsoft Surface line, taking a few generations to really find the sweet spot in performance vs. value.

One of the largest concerns with the current watch: Apple has a history of poor software optimization for older devices when major OS releases happen. Today's watch is already quite slow...how quickly will it become un-useable in this regard?

What if March -- or April -- comes and goes without a new Apple Watch announcement?

Are you going to wait until September again?

I am leaning towards waiting, I mean either I like what the new one provides or the original is that much cheaper. But I usually like to have the latest so the longer I have it before it becomes obsolete.
