If the past has taught us anything this year should bring a significant update to the iPad. Possibly a case redesign, force touch, and USB-C. I'd wait.

I agree – I’d wait. I also look forward to an exterior redesign and new possible IGZO display that could resolve the current distortion problem.

I know the air ipad air 1 and 2 have an IGZO display. However as usual also the ipad of 2015 will have its "issues", if you are going to search for it.

Anyway I do not think the "issues" of the distortion will be eliminated easily, unless apple ipad do not get thicker or heavier or returns to use glass separated from the display (and also in this case greater thickness).

You are right – perhaps IGZO is already out there. What I meant is the latest display technology that will have a more evenly consistent coloration from top to bottom along with the elimination of the distortion problem.

Is the distortion problem really an issue?

For me it wasn't an issue and I don't know why the term "distortion" took hold because it's not distortion. If you take your finger and press it against your HDTV screen and watch the colors ripple and change, that's what it looks like on the iPad Air 2. Some have said this happens if you handle the Air 2 in a normal manner. I found I had to press hard on the back cover in certain areas while pressing the front of the screen in the same area. In other words pinch front and back in the same spot.

I returned two Air 2's for the popping issue, and bought a cheap Android tab for $140... waiting 6 months to see the Air 3... I may grab a iPad 4 if I can find one < $200.

I handled my iPad Air 2 before installing it in my case and did not experience distortion. After reading some experiences here, I was actively looking for the distortion. No distortion in the case as well.

I suppose if you press on any screen hard enough, you can distort it.

The vibration from sound isn't an issue to me. To me, it's not annoying. Though some might find it annoying. More importantly, the sound is rich and the vibration doesn't affect how awesome the tablet sounds.

I am in this boat as well as I havent owned an iPad since the original.

I was wanting to get an Air vs the Air 2 but in researching and reviewing the specs it seems the Air 2 is a worthy purchase over the original.

Now I am hunting for one in my price range if I can get it.

I bought one today. If Apple came out with the iPad Pro this fall, I figure it's gonna take lazy developers months to fully utilize its features. The same thing happened with the iPhone 6+ of which I regrettably was an early adopter.

For me it depends on what my previous iPad version is. I bought an iPad Air 2 recently and have seen it leaps and bounds better than my iPad 3.

If I had an iPad Air I probably would have waited for the 3.

I agree. If you have something to use that functions well, then wait. If not however, life is too short to go without ! Get it now.

Had a 4, was satisfied but it was a bit slow. Since my 4 could do everything an Air 2 can do, I was going to wait, but a sale at Best Buy got me to bite. After selling my 4, the true out of pocket expense was pretty reasonable.

The Air 2 is a very good tablet. Very fast, very light, very portable. I find myself using it alot more than my 4 because it is easier to carry around, easier to use, and offers a better experience than my 4 ever had. The 4 used to be a bit of a burden due to its weight and it was a bit slow, so I'd often rather use another device instead.

If you are happy with what you have, then wait. But coming from anything besides an Air 1, you'll notice an upgrade for sure.

I'm in a similar boat, except for the mini. I debating whether or not to wait for the iPad Mini 4

Same.

Wait for the next one unless you wanna get an iPop (ipad air 2 that POPs randomly).

The past has also taught us that the update will include hardware advancements and software updates that the specs won't be able to handle, and the device will not perform well (e.g. iPad 3, iPad Air 1).

History has shown the second device in a series is the way to go (iPad 2, ipad 4, iPad Air 2).

Buy now or wait until Fall 2016.

Well, I was ready to stick it out with my Air for another year but got word that my work will be running its corporate tech programme again this year so come July I'll be ordering an iPad Air 2. I've used it go get all my iPads thus far, starting with iPad 3 three years ago.

Given the benchmarks and the 2GB of RAM I think the Air 2 might well be the first iPad I keep beyond a year, even if my work do the programme again in 2016.

I think the only major change for the iPad Air 3 is an iPhone 6 style chassis redesign but it can't get any thinner and I don't see it being massively more powerful than the Air 2 unless that A9X does something ridiculous.

And let's face it, developers are still getting brilliant results out the original Air and getting the best from that device, so they've not even began touching the potential of the A8X in the Air 2.

Eh?

The iPad Air 1 absolutely screamed with speed, and the iPad Air 2 even more so - benchmark wise it's actually faster than my iMac

I predict iPad Air 3 will see a resolution bump to 'Retina HD', putting pressure on the specs.

The Air 2 (A8X) could have just about handled this higher res, albeit with difficulty. Apple have learned from their mistakes which is why the Air 2 didn't see the res bump which would have turned it into the mess akin to that of the iPad 3, which was prematurely bumped to a retina model.

However the Air 3 (Which will feature the A9 or A9X, likely the latter) will comfortably be able to handle a Retina HD iPad display.

I just want Apple to make the vibrating chassis go away. Please. If they do that, they'll almost have me. :D

It'll be interesting in a couple of months time when I can sit down and do a proper, in house, side by side comparison of the Air and Air 2.
