Hello Folks

I am currently looking to buy a MacBook Pro 17".
However i read that there might be a redesign in Early 2012.
So I want to know what you think of this? Buy anyway? Screw it and wait? Something else?

On a side note: I do not need a MBP, i just want one.

Thanks a lot

The spec overhaul on the latest macbook pro was a bigger leap then any single refresh since the transition to intel.

I'd buy it now.

only if u can take advantage for the quad-core architecture....for most people, it would be much more impactful to wait for the brand new design in 2012 😀

Yeah I am actually very interested in it because of the Overhaul.
I also like the Visuals of the current MBPs but i fear the 2012 one will be looking way better.

Thats what I was thinking. I own a Quad iMac and a MBA so i dont really need the MBP, but i would like to have one...

If you don't need it then you've got nothing to lose by waiting. But keep your hopes down, the 2012 redesign is pure speculation.

Since you already own a few late model computers why not wait?

intel is on a 2 year cycle with architecture and manufacturing updates. 2012 is going to be ivy bridge which is going to be the current sandy bridge architecture but on a 22nm process instead of 32nm. more cache and better graphics as well. 2013 is going to be a new architecture on the 22nm process. and so on.

computer design is pretty stable now, i don't know what kind of changes you're expecting.

I dont care about Processors, GPUs or any other internal changes, but for the design itself. If its unlikely that apple will change the actual design of the MBP then i will not hesitate to buy the Mac now.

Can you afford it?

Are you single, if not then does your significant other not mind if you CAN afford it?

Have you been down to actually put your hands on the new MacBook Pro?

If the answers to the above are all YES, then pull the trigger on one, you will truly enjoy it.

I can afford it, yes.

My GF doesn't live with me yet, so its not her business at the moment.

Yes i checked it out today at an Apple Store.

unibody 2???

Same here! I know the macbook pro will be awsome in terms of it's performance, but I'm more concerned on how it looks especially compared the redesigned one. It will look less cool for sure... When do you guys think will they come out with a new look?

Trust me and buy it now. Having significant other be upgraded to married status will make purchasing decision very hard.( not to mention very illogical).

Apple prefers minimalist style and isn't known for making frequent or radical design changes. There's a fairly obvious design continuity in most of their major product lines dating back a decade or more.

The current MBP design is only two and a half years old; the preceding design (which originated as the PowerBook G4 before evolving into the MBP) was produced for nearly six years. Meanwhile, the chassis of the standard Macbook has evolved only gradually since the iBook G4 debuted in 2003. Anything can happen, but precedent doesn't favor a major redesign in 2012.

Point is: it's makes sense to wait if you see some sort of significant aesthetic or ergonomic flaw in the current design (hard to imagine how that could be, though). But if you like it as-is, buy it. Besides, there's no guarantee that you'll like whatever design refresh eventually arrives more than the current one...there's no accounting for aesthetic taste, so unlike the technology within, a newer exterior chassis isn't necessarily better.

Okay you convinced me. I'll be buying a 17" MBP soon.

Thank you guys for all your replays!
