Awesome, thanks everyone, i will go and buy one today or tomorrow. I'll keep you updated and join the discussions about it in near future.
Great! I read this quote on the internet ..... do not miss your miracle today waiting for tomorrow ...... I'm practicing what I'm preaching here, I ordered mine on Monday :D :D ...... Macbook Pro 17" 2.2 500GB 7200, anti-glare. Hopefully it'll be here in a week or so ;)

Good luck with yours!

only if u can take advantage for the quad-core architecture....for most people, it would be much more impactful to wait for the brand new design in 2012 :D

if you cant take advantage of these computer why would you wait? they're only going to become more powerful right?

And I bought It. Its awesome so far. I will install Windows 7 on Bootcamp to try out some games....

ah, herrlich! did you get the 2.2? i forget...

the 2.2 plays games very well even in OS X, i completed dragon age II on the mac side, but the windows side is no slouch of course.

i'd recommend getting 8GB of RAM, the 1600MHz if you can find it... i got 8 gigs here in the UK for about £73 with free shipping.

If you don't need it then you've got nothing to lose by waiting. But keep your hopes down, the 2012 redesign is pure speculation.

Agreed.

Heat issues aside, the 2011 models (especially the higher-end 15" with the ATi 6750) are fantastic. But that heat issue is enough of a turn-off. The i7 with ATi is a LOT of power, but reading about the poorly applied thermal grease is the deal-breaker. Even SMCFanControl can only do so much... :(

-When the new MBA were released I swear it said "The next generation of MacBooks"- this could mean that the MB/MBP could be taking a wedge design?

It did say that in all the promotional material.
At first I also thought that it pointed to a MBP redesign to make it more similar to the MBA but since it didn't happen this time, I doubt it ever will.

I believe that the "next generation of macbooks" simply means that this is the laptop that fits most consumers needs and that this is the one they'll be pushing more and more. MBP is destined to become a niche product for people who NEED a lot of power.

That's why I also believe that there won't be a MBP redesign this year or in 2012. Of course, it's pure speculation on my part. :)
I still went for the MBP myself, because that's what fit my needs at the time. If I had to make the decision in a year, I might go for the MBA...

I will make this decision simple. Since it is a scientific fact that the world will end in 2012, you should purchase your MBP now as you don't want to buy it and then only use it for a month and then the world ends. They are expensive machines, you want to get your money's worth.

+1

and like i said earlier, if you cant max out the machine thats currently out why would you wait for a more powerful one?

Absolutely. I run programs on this thing that were previously used exclusively on desktops. When the MacBook Pro starts showing performance almost as high as the previous generation Mac Pro, there is not much reason to wait until it gets faster (especially since the world is coming to an end, likely before Haswell is released). Most common software will not even push this thing hard whatsoever.

Literally buy it now. It is so far ahead of other computers it is not even funny. Even groups that are PC people are saying "yeah it destroys the competition". Even people who hate Macs are admitting that their capability with the Sandy Bridge Architecture, combined with their overall design, and of course OS X makes it stand out. Keep in mind that this computer is by far #1 in customer reviews...I don't like everything about the MBP, but the things I do like I like to much that I am not interested in owning any other laptop.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

I hope not. I prefer the look of the MBP over the Air, to be honest. The Air is a bit too wedge-shaped and I actually think colours "pop" more on the MBP with its black bezel.

Plus the best thing of all is that even if you're a PC person, you can always do what I do, which is to run Windows OS 24/7 thru BootCamp! :p :D

Not sure they will redesign in 2012. They might, but current design is only 3.5 years old, so don't expect a redesign before 2013-2014.

Next year you will see ivy bridge CPU and hopefully support for all SATA 3 SSD without beachballing ;)

My advice: buy now and then again in 2013 :apple:

Buy now, and 2012, and 2013..oh wait, well now and 2012 since the world is going to end, but you get the point.

Really though, these laptops hold enough value that you can sell them a few years down the road and get a surprising amount.

people are looking at apple for a redesign, but i just dont see it happening anytime soon. yes there have been rumor about liquid metal, but seriously, its probably still years away.

Apple has transitioned its brand to the aluminum. it took a while, but they finally have nearly everyone if its products to have the consistent look. there is no way they would get ride of this image after what only 3 years.
