Buy now or wait?

Buy now, enjoy now, regret later. If the computer is on sale, (I got $200 off) buy now. If not, wait.

Bottom line is when someone shows interest in something that I am interested in, I try to welcome them and help them, not slam them and call them a noob.

Looking down and talking down to people doesn't help anyone.

Calling someone a noob because they failed to do the most basic forum task of searching for an existing thread is not looking down on someone. Again, if you just scrolled down a little bit you would see quite a number of "buy or wait" threads. Telling you that is not being un-welcoming but helpful as we don't need a daily should I buy or wait thread from every new member

You think that's hostile, then you better not venture out into the internet too much because that's nothing.

Better not venture onto the internet? That's funny, I've been on some sort of online service since about 1992, just another example of some self appointed "internet god" telling the "noobs" how low and and useless they are. If you don't want to read or answer a thread because some misinformed "noob" posted something, then do "the most basic of internet forum things" and don't read that thread. It's pretty simple.
Hmm... another noob buy or wait thread, I don't think I'll bother to read or post and waist my time. Sorry, just my coffee induced rant. I'm done now.

By the way, thanks to those that have given input, in the end it's just my choice. But your input does help my decision.

So true.......especially since there are so many threads on this already. Plus, do you want someone else that you probably don't even know tell you whether you should buy a computer for yourself? Do some research, read some articles, decide for yourself whether you need it now, and make your own decision.......

Like every forum I am on, There are those who take the "noob" to task. Yet I am like the OP "noob", have been on the internet and forums since the early 90's and you know what? Sometimes the search doesn't work well, or maybe you don't get the answer to your questions. So what if he asks for help! Heck, almost every post on just about any forum is about asking for opinions, if it isn't a post bragging. Internet forums would be pretty dull if it weren't for the "noobs" asking questions.

I think, and it's JMHO, that folks who take "noobs" to task, are just posting to increase their thread counts or see themselves "in print" . So do like the OP said, if you don't want to help, then don't post.

Now back to the original thread.

If you need it now, buy now. If not, wait a few months for the new ones. Otherwise check out the brownie thread in my signature. ;)

the brownie thread is inaccurate for several reasons. the main reason being that the elasticity of demand varies and so a consumers rational buying behaviour is not the same for either. the brownie example is frivalious because it has a relatively low spend with a higher replacement cycle. so if i were you, i would take that link of you signiture - it makes u look stupid!

+ 1 Macrumors post. Yessss!

Hi, if you want a switch to OS X now for work, or if your PC broke (like me ;)), I suggest that you should just go buy a new 13" from the Apple store (again, like I did). However, if you want to switch to OSX but you think you can bear with your PC for another 5-6 months, and possibly want the better specs in the new models then I suggest that you just wait. :)

I highly doubt that it will be 5-6 months, quite honestly, I'm saying 1-3 months, that is why I personally will wait (I've been looking into transitioning into a Mac for like 2 months now, but I didn't want to buy a model that will be improved within a few months).

If we all went by this logic... this forum would cease to exist.

This isn't directed at you, but people need to:
Relax
Take a deep breath.

"Noob" questions (whatever that means) help not only the OP, but the users of this forum who are looking for similar information. Thread are viewed by many people who choose not to post or are unable to because they are not registered. If you don't like the topic, don't respond. Every time you respond... even saying "You should look it up on Mroogle" only serves to lengthen the lifetime of that thread. Ignore it and it dies...

yeah i agree with dude martin.
i really want to just go to the apple store right now and get my new macbook but i think i would be much happier when the new model comes out in the next few months.
even if it was 5-6 months i would still wait.

I just ordered an i5 2.53GHz 17", not only because I need it now, but I can't guarantee that what Apple plans to do next will be something I would like more than what they have now.

Regardless, I need stability, not always the latest and the greatest.

Bit the thing is that apple might give u more "sustainability" if u wait. And who doesn't want a better computer for the same or lower price!

Generic answer to a generic question. If you can wait, wait. If you need a new computer now, buy it now.

I bet Apple will be phasing out the 13" MacBook Pro (the 13" MacBook Air will probably be replacing the 13" form factor size), so you should buy now if you are set on a MBP. With the new revision coming out, there will be no advantage of having a 13" Pro model over the 13" MacBook Air, except if there was a Pro model it would be heavier and bulkier. Apple will only make the MBP in 15" and 17" form factor size going forward, that is my prediction, at least.

Do you think the new Air will be able to have the same hard drive space for the same price as a Macbook Pro for the same price?

Disagree, the i5 and i7 chips are far more superior than their C2D predecessors, with the potential for 8GB RAM nice SSD storage and hi res screens to compliment them I'd say that the current models are extremely sustainable, most sustainable to date. There isn't going to be a mind boggling improvement on the system performance in the next revisions to justify waiting around.

Later C2D chips also support 8Gb RAM.

Seldom does a new CPU based on the same architecture yield significant improvements, and usually when they do, software has to catch up to take advantage anyway.

I'm putting my money on a February release, and if Apple does what I think they may do, we are all going to be happy.

I can't put all my eggs into one hat for something like that. Regardless, I have a great machine (that arrived today), and it's going to do more for my needs than what my previous two Macs struggled with.

Its always going to be cat and mouse, and even with the next update, there will be another update.

Call it what you want - I knew what I was doing and I don't regret it. I've never owned a MBP anyways so this is a big step for me.
