Abandoning the Pros ...

It seems to me Apple is slowly abandoning the pro and creative market. Here's why:

I have to agree - and with use of these NVIDIA chipsets one wonders if Apple won't ditch FW on the iMac as well. No matte - no FW ... after 23 years with Macs - and I love OS X, I'm honestly starting to think Linux or even windows ... windows 7, unless Linux laptops can take advantage of e.g. future browser-based Office apps. Something on which wireless works consistently (unlike my Macbook Pro - see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8241667&#8241667).

Why should I spend 50-100% more ($3000 laptop? Come on..) for elegant machines missing the ports and features I want? I just cannot justify Apple's stinginess on overpriced machines.

Watch for the discussion of how "Apple is leading the market ... Apple is looking ahead" when they drop more ports off the iMac and maybe future MB Pros. Nice opening for other manufacturers ... if Vista didn't totally stink up the place, the choice would be really easy.

I feel the same way. Apple has neglected the Mac far too often.

Why does this have to be a zero-sum game? Apple as a company is *growing*. If Apple is "neglecting" the Macintosh, why are the sales growing? Why would they bother producing and placing television commercials?

Apple leverages their OS development into segments outside of personal computers to great effect and benefit. Microsoft has Windows CE (or whatever it's called this week)... I rest my case.

imac and mac mini will be updated in november. mac pro is definitely next year at macworld, NAB, or definitely WWDC 09. there arent any significant upgrades that are available in the near future for the Mac Pro. these are screamers right now!

Too bad there will be enough people willing to buy their hardware for them to make money.

But for how long ?
If MS managed to deliver one decent OS, if any other PC manufacturer hired a proper design team, Apple might be in deep water .

For how long will the i-gadgets keep the company afloat, if they keep neglecting the computer branch in general, and the professional offerings in particular ?

I really want macpros soon.. but the unfortunate truth is that Apple wont release the new ones until the server class i7 is ready.. I guess I can hope that they will get it early!

I'm guessing january
