Have mine for 4-5 days now and zero remorse - and this is coming from someone who was also considering a 13" MBA + iMac setup. I previously had the 17" MBP 2.5ghz Late 2011 setup. It was well worth the upgrade.

If anyone has buyers remorse just put your rMBP in a bag and take it with you around for for a day :) you'll realize what your money was spent for,

WHAT? 30 seconds to wake from sleep? I don't believe you. Are you talking hibernate or sleep? My 2010 MBP wakes from sleep in less than half a second.

I kid you not. This machine waking from sleep is diabolically long. My 2 year old windows machine with traditional HDD takes less than half the time this 'fast' machine with SSD does.

Check out the other threads also complaining of this.

This needs to be fixed.

Have you tried BF3 on windows 8 on boot camp?

Yes I am. It's the free Release Preview version. The OS itself isn't that great, not very stable. It seems to crash when you give it too much to do, but I havent had any problems when playing Battlefield 3. The game runs great too. If you want to set it up and have any questions feel free to ask.

yes i have. have you actually used illustrator on the RMBP? its horrible. vectors/text are pixelated looking. i didn't bother to test photoshop since zoom levels are all screwed up on the retina screen.

i have no idea how you're getting amazing results from illustrator. please explain.

You must be running at 1400 res. Running at the highest res 1920x1200 my work looks just fine. Yes if you look closely the toolbars look a tad fuzzy but your work within these programs look great.

I just cancelled mine, I ordered a little late..... And after reading the initial reports from other members; I think it's best to skip this model for now....

I will. Thanks

I got my 2.6 / 16 / 512 retina on the 25th...

Impressive laptop. I was considering an air 13 + iMac (about) 600-700 more than high end retina...

Only remorse is that I think it would be better if I had bought 2.3 / 16 / 256 and an external 1-2 tb for 100-180.

I would save about 600 (sales tax included - no I did not get edu discount even though it's easy online, I prefer honesty).

I still have 1,5 week to return it and order the low end plus added ram. Maybe I will...

I have mine at about 60%, it is bright enough for me. I turned it all the way up to test something and it was hurting my eyes (too bright).

I don't think I've ever been happier with a computer purchase.

Me too. The 2010 mbp was alright. I wasn't too excited about but I did enjoy it. :)
My iMac was fun but never inside the office to enjoy it. I use it when I have to some heavy work and need to be in there for hours.

This rMBP is one of the best purchase and I am super happy. I think I posted a few times how much I like it and am glued to it. :p

Ordered a rMBP about a week after the release and was thoroughly excited. Then the anandtech review came out, which I felt was very thorough and credible. As a result, buyer's remorse set in big time and I had to cancel my order :(

Waiting for ML to be released-if the lag issues are resolved I'll place another order, otherwise I'm waiting for Haswell.

Did you read the entire review?

No Remorse

I am replacing a FEB 2007 MBP 15". Aperture is my key software, here.

Bought a new MBP 13" 1w ago and returned it: not enough real estate.

Struggling between BTO MBP 15" with high-res/8/750@7200 for $2149 versus off-the-shelf rMBP for $2199.

Walked into Best Buy last WED to comparison shop yet one more time and left the store with their last rMBP.

Waited two days to open it. Opened it FRI night and have been in love with this machine ever since. My head tells me to get the BTO MBP option, but my heart and my eyes tell me to keep this rMBP.

Anyone who tells you that the retina display doesn't make "that much of a difference" needs his or her eyes examined. The utter silence of this machine + the lightening-fast speed + the brilliant, razor-sharp (too bright, frankly) display = perfection. I don't care about ethernet, and I don't care about the optical drive omission (I can buy the accessory, for the rare times I need one), and I don't notice any lag, and I am sure any fuzzy websites (very few I have found) will come around, soon enough.

I bought it EXPECTING to return it, and I think I may keep it, after all. I buy a new laptop every 6+ years -- that probably explains why I am so impressed. If you have a relatively new laptop at home, just enjoy it for a couple more years and wait until the difference is CLEAR.

You... clearly missed the part of the review where he gave it an editor's choice award, and then explained it was the only one he's ever awarded to a Mac.

But in order to get to that point you would have had to read the review which was overwhelmingly positive.

What kind of black magic do you posses? I don't believe a word coming out of your filthy mouth.

Not sure who you were listening to...

No remorse, I love my machine. The minor choppiness scrolling Facebook is really not a big deal, doesn't bother me at all. I don't use Facebook anyway.

In fact, I read the entire article and am quite aware of how positive its reception has been. However, after reading the issues presented by Anand regarding powering the display (minor for some, major for others), I decided it might be a smart idea to wait for the second iteration before spending 2-3k on a machine.

I'd say if someone is on the fence, you could always wait a bit, maybe buy in store (not sure how difficult online returns are) and see if it meets your needs.

There is nothing wrong with waiting and personally I needed a 3-4 year system now. So my options were to get the rMBP or get something else.. so I went rMBP and I'm happy I did. Others may have different choices and that is fine.

By a few, how many do you really mean? I've seen videos of MBPs booting in around 18-20 seconds with the M4/830. Are you really getting single figure boot times? If so, this "all flash architecture" must be more credible than I thought!

The only remorse I have so far is that I didn't order it on the 11th at zero hour. Next century, when I actually have it in hand, who knows.

Well, it's next century and I have it on hand. Still no buyers remorse. Here's some of the anxieties I had going into this, and how it turned out.

1: I bought this primarily for photography usage. I was concerned that even though the DPI was off the charts on the Retina display, having to inspect photos at 100% view at such a small size when compared to a large monitor wouldn't work well with my eyes. First thing I did was put this to the test, and I actually ended up preferring the smaller size high dpi retina display over the larger screen. It feels much like you're inspecting an actual print for flaws. This, I'm ecstatic about!

2: Did I overkill on the 16 gigs of RAM? Well, within a few hours of doing my standard workflow on the Retina today, I checked the Activity Monitor. I was using over 8 gigs of RAM. I imagine when I start working on some 130 megapixel stitches, I'll be glad of the head room. Now technically, had I only 8 gigs, I'm pretty sure the same workflow would have used a few less gigs of RAM, and cleared up resources earlier. I think having the 16 allows everything to be a bit lazier.

3: General web browsing and average computer usage - Was wondering how fuzzy non-retina pages and apps would be. My verdict? Meh.. don't care. They work fine, they just don't look brilliant.

4: Portability. I hefted it in the store, and it felt pretty darn light compared to a regular MBP 15". Well, now that I've had a chance to move around with it a bit at home, I'd give it 8/10 if comparing it to a 10/10 air or a 6/10 normal pro. I'd say it's slightly more portable than I had expected it to be after reading reviews and hefting it at the store. So that means it exceeded my expectations.. by a little.

5: Screen brightness. I read a lot of stuff on the net about the brightness being less than other pros on the screen. I can say that it's plenty bright enough for me. No issue there.

6: The new magsafe design. As far as the new magsafe, if I'm using the one that came with it, whatever. I like it slightly less than the last gen. However, when using it via the adapter on a last gen magsafe, it REALLY sticks out a long way.. and can get in the way in a tight space. This, I find slightly annoying. But, I can live with that. No big deal.

Any chance of a YT vid? This is the one thing I haven't seen yet: a good walk through of 8 on this machine.

I'd love to help but I haven't used Windows in a long time. Honestly it looks good, but it crashes a lot if you give it too much to do. I tried to use Internet Explorer while BF3 was downloading and I crashed the system twice.

If it can hold this stuff in ram, you gain better responsiveness as a result. The OS frees things up to prevent you from getting periods of unresponsiveness whenever possible. It normalizes things to a degree. Keep in mind that if everything is being held in ram there, it's placing less wear on the SSD due to writing such things as page files and scratch disks.

Very interesting assessment. I like it.

And I concur about the stitches. With my D800 I've done some 250+ megapixel stitches on the iMac. I have to run and go make some coffee and then come back.

Considering my older computer, I could get up and get a drink by the time it booted up, it is fast. I counted though and its about 9-10 seconds.
