Very interesting assessment. I like it.

And I concur about the stitches. With my D800 I've done some 250+ megapixel stitches on the iMac. I have to run and go make some coffee and then come back.

If it can hold this stuff in ram, you gain better responsiveness as a result. The OS frees things up to prevent you from getting periods of unresponsiveness whenever possible. It normalizes things to a degree. Keep in mind that if everything is being held in ram there, it's placing less wear on the SSD due to writing such things as page files and scratch disks.

On that note, 16 gigs of ram.. and I'm now using every bit of it, plus 1.1MB swap!

Aperture + PS is eating it like candy.

Have you tried BF3 on windows 8 on boot camp?

I installed it yesterday and played a bit with it.

- at native it is playable for a bit but very laggy

- 1920p it is playable and lags from time to time

- 1650p absolutely playable and looks still good!

Though i would recommend to play it with head phones because the fans do get pretty loud. Also the keyboard in the "Y-I" are gets pretty warm.

I know this is blasphemy to all pc gamers, but does anybody use a xbox controller when playing BF3?

Rice Krispies?

Well, last night I noticed a Rice Krispies-like sound when I rest my hands on the computer on either side of the trackpad. This is easily reproduced with pressure at various spots in these areas. It sounds like there is some kind of plastic in there, probably the wrapping around the batteries, or something like that. Good Lord. I just may be utilizing the Best Buy 30-day return period.
