I love the fact that someone thinks a baggage handler would get away with stealing a massive 27" computer without getting caught....

That's because the Postal Inspector's who go after theft on the airlines with more vigor than the airlines let theft go on a long time before moving in. And generally the mail doesn't have people pawing through your stuff like airline security, who is allowed into your bags if you fly.

Basically, if they get caught it'll be in 6-18 months and your stuff will be long gone.

Buy here or there

well let’s do some math first

In New York City the 27” imac stock will cost $1699 plus 8.875 sales tax equals $1849 or 1250 euro

If you bought the same in Ireland it would cost 1499 euro ( which includes vat).
A savings of 250 euro ($369).

Upon entering Ireland you now have a choice of lying to your customs official and hope they do not ask for proof or accuse you of smuggling the imac into your country. Otherwise they can asses a vat tax of 21% and a customs duty of 2.5%

The vat tax therefore would be 21% of of the $1699 or about $356 or 249euro

The customs duty therefore would be 2.5 % of $1699 or $42 or 28euro

Total savings by buying iMac about a minus 27euro

Do yourself a favor. have a nice vacation and don’t stress about buying, shipping, and carrying products

I Live on an island in the Caribbean and visit the states regulary. I have purchased an imac before and brought it back as luggage. They do weigh alot and it will not fit in a case they are just to big. I brought mine back as baggage. Take it to the check in desk they will take it from there. They will probably ship it for free if your within your allowance.

I ship alot of stuff via our local airline and they always take good care.

Check the limited liabilty policy on the airlines website and the luggage restrictions.

When you get it back they will charge you import duty. It's not like you can hide that big box.

If you think baggage handlers are so stupid they'd risk their jobs over something that would 100 % certainly be found out, and is worth less than a month's salary, you should probably be checked for Teh Paranoia.

One woman who was married to a luggage handler made a fortune on eBay selling used clothes, shoes etc. etc. About 10,000 items all in all before she got found out. So if your suitcase disappears, there will be no investigation, nobody will be found out, these things just happen.
