For the last six years, finding and buying a new cellphone has been the easiest task for me. I've just ended up buying the newest iPhone everytime. No questions asked. 3GS, 4S and now 5S. I'm not so sure when it comes to my next phone though. iPhone 6S Plus? Nah.

The arguments for being an iPhone have been the same over the years:

- It's so pretty
- I've bought so many apps that would go to waste
- It works well with my Mac, iPad and Apple TV
- I know how to use it

Now, though, I'm finally questioning this habit. My robot-like behaviour. First and foremost: I miss the thrill about buying a new phone. Secondly, it's so friggin' expensive nowadays. In Denmark, the 6S with 64 GB is going to cost around 7000 DKK (= $1050). I know it's gonna be a great phone and all but come on ... even if I had that kind of money lying around it's a lot in a market that's filled with nice and much cheaper phones.

Sooooo: Have you made the shift from iOS to, lets say, Android? I'm really considering the Oneplustwo. I'll still have my iPad Mini and Mac so I don't fell that I need a phone from Apple all that much.

I respect your decision, but I will be buying iPhones for quite some time. iMessage has got me locked up. All my friends use iPhone. The iMessage ecosystem has me stuck.

Pre-iPhone 5, I was exclusively an Android person. I admit I was a typical "Apple sux because everyone wants an iPhone" hater. I had no real reason to hate iPhones, I just disliked them because I wanted to be different.

I don't remember exactly why I made the switch when the 5 came out, but I can say it made me never want to go back to Android. Like some others have already said, I experienced severe lag, device slowness after the first few months, horrendous battery, and lack of updates. I didn't really realize this until I switched to iPhone.

That being said, I realize that it's been over 3 years since I had an Android phone. I'm sure things have much improved since then, but I still have that bad taste left in my mouth. Maybe someday I'll try again, but for now I'm not going anywhere.

You'd certainly think things would have improved with Android but you'd likely be disappointed. Been switching back and forth between iOS and Android for years. HTC One. EVO 4G LTE. Galaxy S5. You know what? They are only as good as the operating system they run on. I finally realized I didn't have to keep swearing at the Google Play Store app from crashing every third app I'd tap download on. If Google can't stabilize their own platform apps on any of the three flagship Android phones I had owned I decided I needed to fire them. Always keeping an eye on them for a possible future purchase but so far the software quality isn't there yet.

In Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Keyboards you'll see a list of the keyboards you have "active" on your phone. When you say you selected Swiftkey in the settings, did you put it at the top of the list there?

I could be wrong but I believe that whichever keyboard is first in the list will be the "default" one that pops up whenever you need to type. However, I suppose it might not work for non-native keyboards? I can't say for sure, I don't use third-party keyboards so I haven't tested it myself...

It won't go to the top of the list, when I tap it, it just goes in to the menu to allow the full access (which I did). I'll keep playing with it and try to get it to stay lol

I switched over a couple times and actually really liked Android. Still do, but tie breaker for me was daughter got an iPad (still too young for a phone) and wanted to message and FaceTime me.

Why not installing an app (eg google hangouts or skype) to do the same as Message/Facetime rather than buy a new device just for two apps? And you can use whatever device rather than always be sure that you have the right one with you... A reason why i dont use e.g. Facetime, but skype instead...

I've run android phones a few times in the past couple of years for a week or two at a time as an evaluation - i could have had them for free through work (my iPhones are work phones).

Within that week or two i'm glad to be rid of them.

edit:
If you like tweaking stuff and installing random stuff on your phone i can see the appeal of android. me? I just want default apps that work properly and don't annoy the crap out of me.

I went through the jailbreak phase and installed quake on my phone, customised the UI, etc. - realised it totally sucked and wasn't really useful and didn't bother jailbreaking again. YMMV

got a 6S Plus after more than a year of having Samsung S5 and Note 4. Both excellent phones and cameras, but the crap touchwiz and apps crashing, and the huge amount of lag that builds up over time is unbearable.

Last iPhone I had was a '5' and before that I never managed to stick to Android for more than 2 weeks. After a year of being 'away' theres certainly thing I miss from Android - the notification bar is far superior in Android for example, and I'm still getting used to being back with iOS, but overall so far so good.

edit: Its only my first day of using the 6S Plus so far. I'll post some sort of 'review' from the perspective of moving from Android over the next few days.

Here's the thing. She already talks to her mom using messages and FaceTime, her aunt, etc. people who aren't tech savvy don't want to be told "when you talk to this person use this, when you talk to me use this, when you video call your mom use FaceTime when me use Skype" etc.

I did put google hangouts and she didn't really message me. The moment I switched to iPhone she started messaging me all the time.

The only Android phone i´ll even concider is Nexus, and now after Nexus 6P launch i´m tempted to get one. I need to replace my Lumia 830 and i was pretty shore i´ll get IP6S+ but price here i Sweden is ridiculous (1290$ off contract for 128GB) while Nexus 6P is 860$ off contract for 128GB. I like my Mac, my wife loves here iPhone 6 and kids loves their iPad Air 2 but i´m not sold on iOS, i feel bit restricted.

I own android, windows os and iOS phones. Have owned so many phones. I always carry 2 phones with me (these days 3 phones while at work). I have ATT/Verizon personal phones plus a Sprint work phones. Pretty much phone junkie.

I work in the hospital. And with many hospital based work. Many hospitals (especially those built during the 1950s etc even with modern renovations) have thick walls. So doesn't really matter which carrier you have, cell phone coverage will suck in many parts of the hospital especially in the operating rooms located deep inside hospitals and those in the basement. Sprint supplies a cell phone tower for the hospital thats why I have a sprint work phone.

Saying all that iMessage has become the trojan horse for communication with me and the members of the surgical/anesthesia team. Seems like 70% of us carry iPhones and iMessage via hospital based wifi is the primary means of communication. Not everyone is issued a hospital based Sprint phone. So it's very difficult for me to text with my android phone.

That's the primary reason I cannot break freely away from the iPhone.

And no, Sprint service sucks once you get outside of the hospital so suggesting

You need to hit the edit button in the top right, then you'll see a red button pop up on the left side and three lines on the right. Hold on the three bars and drag it up to the top then hit Done, which has replaced the Edit button in the top right.

If your going Android, and looking to save money, I would consider the new nexus devices before the one plus two. The most recent one plus device has gotten mediocre review.

I know the nexus 6p is more money, but still significantly cheaper than the 6s plus, and it looks to be a hell of a phone.

I just got the 6s plus and love it, but i spent the previous generation with android, and the generation before that with Apple. I have lengthy experience with both, and can positively say android is a darn good operating system.

Both have there advantages and disadvantages, and most disadvantages can be circumvented with third party apps and approaches. Honestly, it's just a different way of approaching things, and it's up to you which one you pick.

I also don't like how if I click a link in an email, I can't stay on that webpage and still either check my email again, or go to a different page from there.

Not sure what you're doing here, but you can easily do both of those things.

If you actually click on the link (not just peek it), the page will be be opened in the browser. From there, you can do whatever you want ... you're in safari. You can open other pages, or navigate that one, whatever. If you want to go back to email, either just click the 'back to mail' link that will be in the far upper left corner, or press into the screen while swiping back, or double click the home button to enter the multi-tacker and hit email.

Mine doesn't do that lol OK, I'm in an email, I click a link and go to safari. From that point, I can only go somewhere else if I tap the menu (? Not sure if that is what you guys call it). If I press the home button and try to check an email, it doesn't let me until I tap done on the safari page and it goes back into mail. Now this may be because for this particular email I use an app. I just realized that as I was typing this out lol I'll try it in regular and see what happens.

In any event, I'm getting more use to things, really enjoying the battery life, better than my old phone even with the extended battery :)

Do NOT get the OnePlusTwo, you won't be experiencing a good time. Go with the Note 5, Note 4, Htc One M9, Edge Plus, Lg G4, or Lg v10. I've changed phones so much.

So I had the Galaxy s5 last year then switched to the following in this order: iPhone 6plus, Note 4, Htc One M9, Galaxy s6, Galaxy s6 edge plus, then now I'm back to IOS with the 6s plus!

Geez. U are worst than me with phones. Ha. Agree 6S plus (for me) is a fine addition. I started hating the 6 plus after a while because of the lag and safari refreshes. Glad I dumped the 6 plus in March. I carry two phones. Just waiting for Note 5 deals. Hated the note 4. Thought the note 3 was better. Will hang on to my Lg G3 for a little bit longer since resell prices have tanked so much. It's just better to keep the G3 as a spare and maybe find a deal when trade in time comes.

iPhone 5 was my last iPhone then I switched to a Note 3 because I wanted a larger screen. I upgraded to the Note 4 because of issues I had with the Note 3 and not a single one of them had been addressed. 1. skipping/stuttering bluetooth when streaming music to head units. 2. ram management, 3 lagging which you can generally fix by clearing app and/or partition cache (who wants to do this all the time?). Getting updates because of the crazy situation that Google has created with allowing manufactures and then carriers to add on crapware, you end up waiting forever for updates and in some cases NEVER get them. Finally the moment you put that Android phone in your pocket or purse the value off it is reduced by 3/4's. You literally get NOTHING for them compared to an iPhone.

So, YES I am back on iPhone with the 6s Plus and this time, I am staying with the iPhone.. I don't need to experiment anymore. I can't say my Android experiences overall were terrible, but my day to day user experience with the iPhone is just so much better. End of the story for me!

Some very valid points there especially regarding Bluetooth skipping. I thought it was a problem with my headset unit but you're right it seems to be a problem with Samsung. At least in Apples favour they generally tend to fix any issues fairly quickly. The same can't be said for Samsung

I'm back to iPhone after a few months with the ASUS Zenfone 2. I had a lot of issues with the phone, but I don't know if it's Android or ASUS. A part of me feels like since ASUS isn't really well-known for phones, theirs isn't as refined, but maybe I would have had a better experience with Samsung. I used the HTC One (M7) before this for 2 years. I didn't have any major issues with it so I guess ASUS was to blame.

On the Zenfone, little things like the constant app crashing, unresponsiveness, and lagginess really started to get to me. The thing was advertised heavily as the first 4GB RAM phone and it did not perform.

I'm back to my old iPhone 5s and everything just works the way it should. Can't wait to upgrade to the 6s. Right now I have a hard time justifying paying $1000 for a cell phone when the 5s works just fine. Going from a 5.5" display to 4" was a huge change, so I want that back!

I am very much in the same boat. From 3GS > 4s > 5s. Before this year I have never considered Android. No product is perfect. But iPhone(s) have been working very well for me in all these years (except the itunes pain in the first years, though).

This year I also began to question... am I going to buy iPhone again... Same reasons but in different order:

Firstly, it IS expensive. I didn't think it's expensive since iPhone was always leading in every aspect: photo quality, OS functions and stability, battery performance, design...

Now I think it is expensive, because more Android phones are catching up, and at a much cheaper price. I seriously went to the shops to try some Android phones, and nearly had bought a LG G4 or Sony Z3+. (Here in Hong Kong an iPhone 6s+ 16GB is nearly 40% more expensive than these two phones. Not to mention the usability of 16GB)

And secondly, I also don't have the 'thrill' when thinking about getting a new iPhone 6(+) or 6s(+). Frankly the design does not impress me much. Little customization allowed. While I think iPhone is still a 'masterpiece', it is a boring masterpiece (to me).

At this moment I am still more on the iPhone side. The improvement from 6 to 6s is great. And still, iOS is balancing every aspect well (but not leading in): backup solution, battery, stability, ease of use. But the "change to Android" voice is visiting me from time to time. (Especially when I buy a new phone, I'll buy one for my wife together. I could get three Android phones with the same amount of money. But that's another story haha)

Yeah, you'll likely have to use the native Apple mail app in order to do what you want. Many third party apps have their own in-app browser and doesn't use Safari.

If you use the default mail app, when you click on a link it should open in Safari and then you can go to a different website from the top url area or hit the "Back to Mail" option in the top left to go back to the Mail app without using the home button. A fantastic new feature of iOS 9 in my opinion.

I love you lol thank you. I know these are noob issues and you guys think I'm crazy... But I'm a noob at iphones so I appreciate the help :)
No worries, glad to help. Everyone's gotta start somewhere and better that you ask instead of just getting frustrated; that way, we can get another convert!:D

I just want to say that I firmly believe the 6s plus is the best iPhone Apple has ever made. And before anyone cuts in and says "it's that way every year" I couldn't say that about the 6 plus (when it was new), or naube even the 5 (though the 6 plus was their worst phone to date).

Having said that, there are some great Android options too. If you're on a tight budget I would check out the Moto X series of phones. Best bang for your buck IMO.
