Good, Vanilla Coke was disgusting.

Now Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper, is awesome. If they quit selling that, I'll go insane and have withdrawal symptoms, I'm addicted to that stuff

Sorry...it's only temporary

Real vanilla is one of my favorite flavors of all time, but, the vanilla they use in Vanilla Coke is artificial, so, it tastes too much like chemicals.

Cream soda is essentially vanilla-flavored soda (sometimes colored red), so, that might be a good substitute.
Cream soda rocks, particulalry some of the Virgil's or Trader Joes microbrewed stuff. Never understood the need for red coloring, but it seems common in some parts.

Whatever chemicas they use in Vanilla Coke and the Diet Vanilla Coke just kill me. I like the initial taste, but it doesn't settle well in my stomach. I don't have that kind of reaction to the regular stuff or even any of the other cherry/lime/lemon varieties, or even "regular" coke + vanilla syrup. Weird.

Anyone ever tried Inca Kola? Despite it's overpowering sweetness, it's definitely one of my all time favorite carbonated soft drinks. Right up there with Reed's Extra Ginger Brew, and the above mentioned cream sodas.

NEVER!! I love Coke w/ Lime, it's tasty. Now Coke w/ Lemon I could understand, that isn't too tasty. But let Lime live to see another day:)

I found "Citra Coke" (or something similar) today

Actually, white chocolate is not vanilla -- it's sweetened cocoa butter, which comes from chocolate. Vanilla comes from the dried and cured stamens of a type of orchid. The two are not related at all, but are often used together.

Thanks for the correction, although I still don't think that it should be called chocolate since it is based on cocoa butter and does not have the cocoa solids.

Love real vanilla — don't like Vanilla Coke. Nasty cloying stuff with the artficial flavour dial turned up to 11.

All of the flavoured Cokes are too powerfully flavoured — their test focus group must have consisted of smokers with heavy colds.

First time I tasted VC I did not care for it in the slightest and wondered if it would develop a loyal long-term following.

Vanilla coke always reminded me of rum and coke, made with cheap rum and none of the plesant after-effects. I won't miss is, but I do feel for those of you who will. When they stopped selling my favorite brand of boneless buffalo wings at my local Costco I tried to find out who I could call to get it back (It didn't work). It bummed me out for weeks everytime I thought about it.

Deeply disheartend by this devistating news - I'm gunna have to live in a box.

Ok, maybe I wont be that drastic, but I'll miss vanilla coke deeply! I love it.

I really don't like soft drink. Never got the taste for coke or pepsi or anything fizzy.

But one day, I got a sip of Pepsi Blue - that bright blue, awfully sweet concoction and I was hooked. I'm so glad it lasted like 5 weeks on the market here, otherwise I could've ended up being a whale of a boy.

Hmm. I say good riddance, because I thought it was hideous. However, according to the BBC, in the UK it will be replaced by Diet Cherry Coke, and I am rather partial to Cherry Coke, but don't like regular Coke furry teeth. So this pleases me hugely. But if it's same as the US and is going to be Black Cherry Vanilla, I will be very sad....

On a side note, it's interesting to see the slight differences in the label design and bottle shape between the UK and the US. (The one on the UK story above isn't a UK bottle of Vanilla Coke).

What is the world coming too...

when everything has to have more than one flavour to be appealing?

OK, Vanila Coke, sure. Lime Coke, sure. Lemon Coke, sure. Cherry Coke, sure

But Cherry Vanilla Coke? Why the added flavours? It isn't really Coke then is it?

I am not saying Coke (or Diet Coke, Pepsi or whatever) with an added flavour is a bad thing - but why teh different flavours all at once?

There are enough chemicals in the 'regular' food and drink we consume, why add more and more?

Can you post a pic of the UK version? I am fascinated by subtle nuances between countries like this.

aw, sad. well, like another poster said, now we can just go back to the old way of making it. tasted better that way anyway.

yeah, I don't get the flavor mixing, either. What's the point of it? You may as well just have an italian soda and be done with it. It's cheaper to make yourself, and you can tailor it to your own tastes.

while I do like the occasional V.C., I'm not suprised, nor sorry to see it go. Vanilla Cokes have been around for years, it's just that Coke decided to make it easier by mixing it up for you in vats as large as your house, instead of you doing it yourself in your own home (I, mean, it's so difficult and time-consuming to mix in a tablespoon of vanilla syrup or sweetened lime juice into a glass of cola).

Think of the flavored sodas as another convenience food that's going the way of the Edsel.

The Coke drink that actually contained real cocaine, the highly refined extract of coca leaves? ;)

I'm not much of a soda drinker (my dad owns a vending company so I got sick of all the freebies right quick) but vanilla coke was decent. It will be missed.

Me too! Whenever I go abroad I spend half the time saying "ooh, look - their road signs/chocolate wrappers/metro tickets/bottles of toilet cleaner look different. :p

As I hate the vanilla stuff, I don't have a bottle of it and can't find a picture on the net. But, here is a bottle and a can of British Diet Coke, recently bought on a excursion to the corner shop to buy the Sunday papers. :)

So, the UK has Diet Coke then. I'll have to remember that...never liked the ambiguous taste of Coke Light in Denmark and Germany.

It's amazing the recent explosion of attempts to get more shelf space...especially by soda and candy bar manufacturers. Used to be there was just Regular, maybe Diet. But more and more's been added so now we've got caffeine free, diet caffeine free, w/lemon, diet w/lemon, w/lime, diet w/lime, vanilla, diet vanilla, cherry, diet cherry, vanilla & cherry, diet vanilla & cherry, berry (sorry, Pepsi Blue was weird)...not to mention the candy bars: chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, double chocolate, (or Reese's) honey-roasted peanut, inside out...etc., etc., etc.. What's next? Green River Coke? Maybe they'll just start marketing Coke w/ Bacardi...
