I hate how GM cripples each car's infotainment system in an attempt to get you to upgrade to a new car for Carplay. I get it, but I don't like it. That infotainment system is just a small box under the dash. I'd love to be able to pull that box out and drop in an upgraded Carplay compatible version...instead of replacing the entire car.

Nobody is forcing you to buy a new car or use Carplay. Its just an added feature for those who happen to be purchasing one.

Cadillac is unbelievably overrated. Their design is pretty bad save for a model or two. Their lure is more ghetto than anything.

I'm in agreement with you. I think they're generally ugly and GM apparently has no idea how to get away from ghetto and/or 80-year-old white man design. However any time I ever call a Cadillac ugly, I usually get people jumping all over me about it. Mostly Americans though from what I've noticed. (Note: I am also American)

Very overpriced VW. I think it’s good that Caddy support both platforms.

Not to defend VW/Audi, because I dislike them for many reasons, but very few Audis share a platform with any VW these days so calling them an overpriced VW is a bit misleading (A3, TT, Q3/7, I think are the only ones). Overpriced alone, sure. Doesn't beat BMW's overpricing though...

maybe I'll wait till the 2016's roll out.. been looking at a new car, the ATS is beautifull... a stretch for my budget, but the more features it gets, the more I like

Doesn't have to be aftermarket, but doing this would benefit both the manufacturer and Apple because the manufacturer would have a new selling point that consumers care about, and Apple would have another component that they could integrate into their ecosystem.

Completely agree, I'd love that to happen. And it would be a great idea.

opinion on beauty/ugly is completely subjective, thats all. I find Cadillac's design to be stunning. I love the hard lines. The angular / muscular appearance. The dagger / wedge shape.

but I'm not going to convince you of that. Just like nobody will ever convince me that Porche's look good. Or BMW's are worth it, or the like. Purely subjective thing looks are.

Some people just like to believe their opinions should be shared by everyone and get angry when they aren't.

I'm not buying another Jeep til it has CarPlay. Their UConnect blows.

This is the challenge the entire auto industry faces. They will all either adopt CarPlay or lose out on a huge number of sales. CarPlay will become a minimum requirement of all savvy consumers in the market for a new vehicle.

Heh, it's a similar sort of case with most American cars. They're not really purchased outside of the US, save for a few iconic muscle cars I guess.

I've had an Audi - 2001 A4 Avant - that was a great car. especially for the $$. It was $30k with a sport suspension and nice wheels, plus a lot of other extras. But 5 years later the same car cost $40k+. I didn't even think about going back.

My current car is a VW Touareg. The way I see it, I get the benefits of Porsche as it was developed in partnership with and based off the Cayenne, but I still get VW pricing and as I don't have a high end model, I get the german styling and nice interior which I like.

I have a 2015 Sonata (one of the first cars it was supposed to be installed in from the get-go) and when I call Hyundai they know nothing about it. WTF?

I wish Honda would play nice with Carplay. They've made no announcement yet, but their customer service reps are saying on Twitter that Carplay won't be coming till 2016, for only select models, and won't be backwards compatible with 2014 and 2015 model vehicles.

This after, of course, they print literature with their 2014 and 2015 vehicles advertising Carplay support.

Spare me the forcing comments. It should be upgradeable since it's only a small box in the dashboard.

I'm sure you'd feel the same way if this was Apple's strategy too. Want El Capitan? Only available on the newest MacBook Pro. Want Apple Music? Only available on the newest iPhone.

Well, that's exactly it. It's annoying when you state an opinion and people go crazy on you like you killed their children. I don't mind what people like and if it's different from me. Apparently you think the same way. Thanks for your civil reply :)

You could apply this Cadillac too. Their pricing is now almost dead even or just a few percentage points below BMW. I could understand your statement if Caddy's were priced like Hyundai Genesis in value per dollar, but that hasn't been the case for some time.

Back to the topic at hand...
Are the 2015 CUE much better than in the past? I tried out a 2013 ATS CUE and that thing was laggy as hell. Makes MMI/Idrive look super fast. Heck, even the TLX is faster lol.

Yup. I bought a 2014 Civic and many of Apple's very own pictures showing off the carplay interface literally use the touch screen dash from my car, and yet I can't use carplay in my car. It's a very strange thing to see.

My guess is like most Japanese companies, Honda is stuck in molasses when it comes to software, and they're fumbling around trying to get this to market. It's absolutely ridiculous as my 2014 Civic is completely ready for these features, but they just can't get their act together.

In an image driven market that is the luxury car market, being value priced hurts a brands image. Cadillac isn't losing customers to the Germans or Lexus, buyers are going back down to the mainstream brands now that the CTS is properly priced. Hardly a good perception you want to develop if you want to attract people away from BMW and Mercedes who buy their vehicles just based on the badge. Plus GM has Buick and value pricing Cadillac's will also step on Buick's toes.

Cadillac isn't aiming to be like Lincoln, Acura, Buick Volvo, etc where they sell you on value. They want to be like BMW and Mercedes where you buy based on the badge even if the car wearing the badge is a vehicle that dilutes it( the new FWD 1 series and CLA).

They have not doing a good job with it because their marketing sucks and dealers can't change their business model from either selling $80k Escalades or putting vinyl tops on the CTS to sell to old people..... And of course they are now getting past the mistake they have been making for the past 10 years of value pricing themselves.

CUE is much improved compared to the initial version of it. Have no issues with it in my dads 2014 ATS. Only area where it is still a bit laggy is the zoom in/out animation of the navigation map, but everything else is fluid and responsive.

Go buy one of the many aftermarket CarPlay enabled receivers and install it in your car if you want it in your current car then. And it's not just "a small box" in the dashboard.

I think Cadillac has improved a lot the last few years. It is not just an old man's car anymore.

I rented a XTS for 4 or 5 days when I visited the US a couple of months ago and I really liked it - much more than any other american sedan I have driven the last 10 years. That they dare to have a design that sets them apart from most other manufacturers is just a plus in my book.

Edit: It really hauled ass on the near empty Extraterrestrial Highway as well :D

You are right, it is only my opinion. But I also see more of these.

Than these.

I always buy a car on its merit than who buys them. Because if you want to judge a brand by who buys them, you'll never buy a car because all have their douches, jerks, etc that ruin the car as those have ruined the Escalade, etc and brand.

They're a lot better, but they lack the design, quality, and performance of their German counterparts.

Isn't that what they did with Siri?

Design is subjective as I prefer the A&S theme over BMW's current designs and Audi's are looking tired just slightly tweaking that same theme they have had for years, but I do love Mercedes's latest designs. Quality? In what way? Interior materials or reliability? Performance? While I do love the experience forced induction gives, I like the simpler design of the 3.6 V6 in the ATS as it will be simpler to maintain and the Alpha platform( ATS, CTS) is among the best in the class when it comes to handling.

But of course that is my opinion and owning outright a luxury car is actually a minority of buyers. Most people lease and then ditch the cars for another lease when the maintenance program is up. So they don't consider the long term costs of those forced inducted engines.
