Heh, it's a similar sort of case with most American cars. They're not really purchased outside of the US, save for a few iconic muscle cars I guess.

Buick is the number one selling brand of American vehicle in China, in fact GM sold more Buick's in China than they did in the USA.

I have a 2014 CTS myself and yes the Cue system is very slow/laggy, also bluetooth is really annoying as I always have problems with the connection, I literally have to turn the car off and back on for it to work, means if you're on the highway and it decides to stop working then you won't be able to listen to Spotify unless you exit and park somewhere to turn it off/on...still can't believe Cadillac release a car that starts at $48k and has horrible laggy system like this smh...
Ouch I guess things haven't changed much. Try a 2015 5 series idrive. That's the fastest multimedia interface I've tried yet.

I would like to know what they mean by "future vehicles" for the wireless CarPlay. Does that include the already-announced 2016 models, like the Camaro, etc? Or do they mean the next model after that?

Why hasn't Apple developed a standardized CPU that can hook up to the things that are common in most cars (Fan, A/C, Temperature, Heated seats, etc.) sell it really cheap, and then just let manufacturers hook up their own screen, high quality or junk if they want to save money on lower end models, and get scale that way? It seems like there's a lot of trouble scaling this at an affordable price...

I just hope they eventually make CarPlay open source. Then you could buy something like a Raspberry Pi and build your own car stereo!

because supplying auto makers w/ AC controls isnt apple's core business? maybe?
also, the new version of CarPlay lets it just launch an app for that, loads the car maker's app for control that junk, if thats what the auto maker wants to do.

Would a seamlessly integrated experience to control your car from your phone/watch a value to consumers, and therefore the automakers, or not? Is their phone a core part of their business? Maybe? Your solution is to have Apple make a generic software that can accept all kinds of different inputs, secure or insecure, coherent or incoherent, forward-thinking or short-sighted, from different manufacturers, instead of working with them to develop a standard that makes sense? That's the equivalent of the fragmentation of software in the home devices space. That's the exact reason why they came out with HomeKit. Either way, they're apparently not doing either.

I sense "CarKit" is coming! ;)

Ahahahahaha that link you sent me. 1.4 million cars in a YEAR, and that's your evidence to the contrary?

Jesus dude very few people outside of the U.S., with the exception of Ford, buy American cars. That's true in Europe, in the UK, in China, in Japan, and in Russia. That's fact, indulging a gentle Google search would show you that.

Again, that's 'very few'; that doesn't mean 0. Of course American cars are sold elsewhere, but the percentages are tiny. Again, excluding Ford. Boy oh boy, thanks for demonstrating your ignorance about the rest of the world.

Did you totally miss the part where China bought 9xx,xxx Buicks? It's not that hard to see... You said "hardly anybody outside of the U.S.

Yeah yeah I know bro, plenty of correcting going on in this thread, I'm suitably embarrassed :D   still though they don't really sell high in Europe or Japan.

Well, the intent wasn't really to embarrass, more to educate -- but making such a bold and blatantly incorrect statement can cause embarrassment, I'm sure.

I don't really care how many GM vehicles sell in Europe or Japan, that wasn't really my point. My point was more that GM sells a metric crapload of vehicles outside of the US -- even non-iconic and non-muscle cars.

Carry on.

Well good of you to be gracious in victory. Few American cars (again excluding Ford for obvious reasons) are bought much in Europe, I think you would be surprised just how unpopular they are (again, for obvious reasons).

Anyway I shall leave you to your evening, or morning - wherever you may be located. Sorry if I offended you in any way and I didn't mean to anger you. Best wishes! :)

Go buy one of the many aftermarket CarPlay enabled receivers and install it in your car if you want it in your current car then. And it's not just "a small box" in the dashboard.

I would but GM made it's dash so you can't put an after market stereo in.

And, yes, it is just a small box in the dash. I could pull out the current box I have and drop in one with navigation. They could easily do the same with an upgraded Carplay box. So why wouldn't GM want to make money off of people who want to upgrade?

Yes I know... But my question is specifically about the wireless version of CarPlay. Since the 2016 Camaro is already set for production in the fall, I'm curious if it is getting the current wired-only version of CarPlay, or if it will have the new wireless version. I'm wondering what the cutoff is for "future" vehicles.

How would Steve Jobs have made CarPlay backwards compatible with older infotainment systems?
he would stand in the company and scream "MAKE IT COMPATIBLE". the engineers would actually do it and he would stand on a stage and harvest the praise.

That is about it. Those who opposed his vision was fired and someone else got the job. Unreasonable people with money are the ones that lead the world.

I think Cadillac has improved a lot the last few years. It is not just an old man's car anymore.

I rented a XTS for 4 or 5 days when I visited the US a couple of months ago and I really liked it - much more than any other american sedan I have driven the last 10 years. That they dare to have a design that sets them apart from most other manufacturers is just a plus in my book.

Edit: It really hauled ass on the near empty Extraterrestrial Highway as well :D

I bought the 2016 Cadillac XTS just because it had Apple CarPlay. I could have saved thousands and gotten a 2015 but Apple CarPlay is a deal maker. I love my XTS even better than the old 2005 STS I replaced. My wife commented on the 8" and 12.3" configurable display as looking like an airplane cockpit. A bit exaggerated but there is so much I need to learn. Does anybody know if there is an Apple CarPlay manual?

As I was to understand it should emulate your phone to an extent. Isn't that the point?
