May I ask: why did you order it when there's a refresh in just a few days? Was it a great deal?
Top spec 15" rMPB reduce 20% free delivery (total $2591), you tell me.
The new ones (if there are any, thats a big if) have to be more than 20% faster to match the value on CPU performance, otherwise it's just false economy.
As far as I can tell on notebook check the benchmark difference between i7-3820 Ivy and i7-4800 Haswell is an improvement of about 7%, thats all. Even so it's not going to revolutionise my work performance, and I use the power adaptor all the time so battery life increases are lost on me. I see no point in waiting as...
... I need it now, I have to travel and need to process heavy loads for a few hours at a time for work (8 threads 100%) and use at least 10-14GB of RAM.
The OP will not even look over his shoulder at the update (IF there is one), unless there is some major short fall with the current rMBP (there isn't).
I was spewing that I needed to be at my new laptop working at the same time the first updates will be shipped, close but no cigar. I bought an iPad 3 one month before the 4 came out and I still don't feel the need to update it, it is still slick fast and beautiful a new one will not improve on that enough, not yet anyway.
My only other option was to order a Metabox Clevo with Haswell and 32GB ram but it to only started taking orders today and need 5 day build time leaving me with a laptop after the 17th which I will be away already. Just the way it is, not a crime or anything.
Edit: Just checked the Metabox suppliers and the Haswell stock is now arriving the 10th, so I have absolutely made the right choice. If I didn't purchase on Wednesday I would have missed the sale and would have to pay $3199 for the same MacBook and wait for new stock (it sold out yesterday). Lucky me.
I am on time, under budget and 9.5/10ths of what I wanted. Oh, and it is company money not mine so it doesn't really matter anyway.
