Honestly, Apple should have been giving these adapters with the new iPhones anyway. They cost so little for apple to make and just having more of them out there only serves the adaption by the public of them further. At midnight last Friday, nobody doubted that the first adapter was free because it really isn't unreasonable, the original iPhone came with a 30 dollar dock.

It very much is in the OP's right to ask for it, most retailers, would have honored this as it just shows good customer relations. I would be more inclined to buy a 2nd adapter had I gotten the first one gratis. As it stands I will solely buy a few 3rd party built ones.

I am really suprised by all these reactions ! Maybe it's because I am from France. Here when something is clearly advertized to include something the seller has to provide it ! And of course he cannot say "After all I don't want to provide it".

I mean Apple clearly stated that they will include an adapter so why not doing it ? It is just simple as that !

I will ask Apple my free adapter !

That's what I said... Show me where it's advertised as INCLUDED with the iPhone. It was shown as a free item SEPARATE from the contents of the iPhone. It didn't list the earbuds, cable and power adapter, because that is the advertized contents of the iPhone 5.

"Your iPhone includes a Lightning to 30-pin Adaptor..."

It says that it includes it, and isn't a separate item.

Yes, that page counts as it being advertised, because it is information prior to the purchase and contract of sale. There was no information refuting that it didn't come with it: explicitly stating so.

Not to defend Apple as I think they should give them to people calling,
but when you purchased the 5 it listed what was included and the adaptor was not.

It was the separate listing for the adaptor that said one was included by mistake.

Apple in the past would have handled this differently it seems.
They have tightened things up a notch not sure that is a good idea.

Seems fair to me, they offered you the refund. If they wouldn't allow a refund then THAT would be unfair.

I kinda wonder why they're being so stubborn though when they're renowned for excellent customer service.

They have to allow refunds by law, they haven't done anything out of the ordinary. They'd be breaking the law if they didn't allow him a refund.

I feel that Apple should supply them for a100% markup of $2, an not a ridiculous price of $29..

I just hope they are using the profit to research how to make phone that can handle day to day use without looking a wreck..

I'm surprised with the amount of tax they're not paying they couldn't even stump up for a $2 adapter.

They have always offered refunds, so offering on now is not giving any.

A very low percentage of people would have called in for the adaptor,
and they would only have to offer it to those who ordered while the error was online.
Strange that they are not... with 100 billion of what was our money in the bank.
