Seems a little odd. I'm in the middle of a calibration right now. On the last step charging the battery back up to full.

Also, I just noticed, am I the only one with a high cycle count? I'm at 28/29 already... many I see barely hit over 10, majority under 5. lol

Calibrating the battery can't conceivably raise the mAh by five thousand. This is ridiculous. I really want to know if there are more people, I might have to demand one of the high capacity ones. It is BS that some of the laptops have 1.5 times the battery capacity of others.

It's my understanding that calibrating doesn't change the actual capacity of the battery, but merely resets battery monitoring processor and circuitry, so that they accurately reflect battery charge and capacity. I assume this is to prevent said circuitry from capping your charges at something lower than capacity, and/or not sleeping when there is actually enough power to keep running for awhile longer.

I may be wrong (in life, I often am). I'm assuming the manufacturer doesn't take the time to fully charge and discharge batteries during construction, OS installation, and testing on each system - so initial "calibration" is probably quite off.

Am I wrong?... probably.

i dont my 17" yet so im not sure if comparing it relatively to the way i use a 15" unibody MBP - im borrowing a family members notebook in the meantime, and i keep it plugged in 99% of the time and when i plug it sometimes it seems to discharge faster and when it gets below the 93~95 threshold i think it takes incremental charges/cycles that add up over time so if you let it drain to 93 and below and then charge it too 100 i think it takes account for thos and then adds them up over time for a full cycle as ivenoticed this 3week old system jhas 3cycles and it was only cycled fully once.

not im not 100% but its just a guess.

yesterday i was at 12xxx. today after a complete drain im at 13269. I wonder if i keep doing this process for the next several days, would it make a difference in the capacity. I will keep you guys posted.

will configuring the battery change anything?

Here's the deal. Apparently, it seems that Apple's battery creation has some weird anomalies that is.. well.. just weird.

Here's how you do this:

- Goto The "Apple" in the Top Left Corner, select "About This Mac"
- Select "More Info..."
- Goto "Power" on the side
- Copy all info from "Battery Information" (Don't need System Power Settings)

So far, I have:

Battery Information:

Model Information:
Serial Number: DP-bq20z951-3a35-7112
Manufacturer: DP
Device name: bq20z951
Pack Lot Code: 0000
PCB Lot Code: 0000
Firmware Version: 0042
Hardware Revision: 0001
Cell Revision: 0119
Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 12489
Fully charged: Yes
Charging: No
Full charge capacity (mAh): 12518
Health Information:
Cycle count: 26
Condition: Good
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): -3048
Voltage (mV): 8188

or, 12518 mAh as 100% charged.

It seems that one of the users here have over 17000 mAh, which is awkward because iFixit stated their test system only had 12xxx mAh also.

I want to see how many people have the 12xxx mAh or if there's anyone else who is lucky, have over 17xxx mAh as their max capacity.

Please also state if you have calibrated your battery or not.

mine says 13020?

Wow, that's really high. Did you just pull the Magsafe out and take a screenshot, or did you wait a few minutes for everything to stabalise first?

It was charging via the regular power adapter. Right now I'm running on battery and it says: Amperage (mA): -1850

I am going to try that too. have the brightness 2 levels from fully bright. I'm using the computer mainly just to surf the web, read the forums, chat, and list some auctions on eBay! :)

I'm going to drain out the battery tonite, starting at 7PM EST. I'll see what time the battery dies, and then let it stay drained for the nite and charge it from morning.

I'll let you know what full capacity is tomorrow.

Just finished a calibration, first time ever. You don't know how painful it is not to have this system to be able to use.. lol

I have no difference what so ever.

Ditto, I calibrated mine overnite and no change to the total capacity.

I am however still going to visit the Apple stores here in town this weekend and see what the display models have, and frankly if any of them show 17,000 + capacity I will exchange for it. That's 5000+ difference is like having an extra battery built it!!

The difference is huge. with 5000 mAh more, thats another 1 hour at least with everything on max.

In two San Francisco stores, all the display models show around 12700.

The design capacity of the 17" MBP battery is 12800 mAh.

Those posters whose MBPs are reporting 17000 mAh capacity have something wrong with their battery controller... there is no way the physical battery is any different.

If Apple could have fit a 17000 mAh battery inside the machine, they would have.

Repeated calibration won't do anything except harm your battery -- these batteries don't like deep discharges. Calibration should only be done once every couple of months, and all it does is ensure that your battery's monitoring hardware is in sync with the actual capacity of the battery itself. Calibration won't increase your runtime, just improve the accuracy of your battery meter.

Design capacity is actually 13000 mAh.
