I'm varying between 12500 - 12950 mAh currently. Its not uncommon since the design capacity is 13000 mAh to have some users slightly above 13000 and some below 13000 but.. anything bigger then that, there should be some concern/problem or extremely lucky.

It was 12727 mAh when I took hold of the MBP from delivery.

Calibration did nothing to improve on that (even did the full 5hr thing), so going from other users on Macrumors, the battery in the 17" really doesn't need calibrating and why there is no documentation that says you need to from Apple that comes with the packaging.

7 cycles in, and normal usage - my battery is now 13025mAh. Normal usage has helped much better than calibration.

A very very odd thing, is coconutBattery reports my MBP to be 123 months old :S lol

Kastenbrust is in the UK, along with his/her colleague, and both have 18000mAh, and MagicMoxter also has 18000mAh, but didn't say where he/she was from. On the other hand, Iscangus is also from the UK but has 1300mAh.
At first I was wondering if it was unique to models shipped to the UK for some reason, but that appears not to be true.
The mystery remains unsolved.

Those posters whose MBPs are reporting 17000 mAh capacity have something wrong with their battery controller... there is no way the physical battery is any different..

The first question would have to be:
Do these 17000 mAh users actually see longer battery life? Do their machines last 6-8 hours on one charge as opposed to 4-5 what most users seem to get?
Kastenbrust?

What I could imagine is that Apple originally aimed for a battery with 17000 mAh capacity but ran into troubles - causing the 17" delay.
They couldn't figure it out in time so eventually gave up and reduced the capacity to 13000 mAh.

Some early adopters, people who ordered immediately, might have been lucky and snatched up a few of the 17000 mAh batteries that made it through the initial testrun.
Which might explain why only some have it, and why these are not region dependent, as they were time of order dependent.

Could one of these 17000 mAh users open up their 17" MBPs and check the capacity noted on the battery itself? It should say 17000 mAh, or at least give some V and Wh readings. iFixit noted 7.3V and 95Wh written on their battery. For 17000 mAh this would have to read about 7.3V and 125Wh.
Kastenbrust?

I'm from the UK and I do not have an 18000mAh battery.

I find all highly unlikely, as the battery would have to be physically bigger to accommodate the much larger battery capacity. Me, who knows...

Maybe a little bit off-topic, but does anybody know if it's harmful to the battery to keep your 17" macbook pro connected to power all the time?

Yes. It is very harmful to keep it connected 24/7 and never gone unplugged. You would need to use the battery regularly. It can stay at the desk 24/7 but don't leave it plugged 24/7. Unplug it once a while and let the power flow a little.

I don't think our batteries are designed for more than 13000 mAh and the people who do have 1.7/1.8Ah are either incredibly lucky or they're lying.

An update on mine:

Cycle count: 37
Full charge capacity: 12806 mAh

Thanks for the quick response, but could you define "once a while"?

You've bought a laptop, not a desktop.

The battery is meant to be used and recharged on a consistent basis, and that helps to keep the battery healthy. I'd try to at least let it drain down (not to 0) every few days in your situation if you insist on keeping the laptop permanently plugged in. That'll help things. ;)

I would love to see screen shots of this 18000mah battery.

No way this is legit.

Looks like the vast majority are in the 12K's. Just two so far in the17's? Mine should be delivered later today. I'll try a before and after calibration and get back to you.......

I'm sorry, but those screens have been P-shopped. NO way that one MBP's got 5k+ on the rest of them, when the component lots from China are so close together. High-capacity batteries cropping up randomly like Easter eggs is bullsh#t.

Those screen's are *not* legit.

I'm plenty happy with the amazing battery lives of all 3 of my unibody 17" MBPs, and when the hi-capacity 3rd-party or next-gen replacement batteries come out, I'll be there with screwdriver in hand, ready to void AppleCare warranties right and left... until then, I'm happy at 13100!

Yeah, it appears that the screens are no longer legit especially since theres no more reports of them.

Way to dig up a really old thread but I'll play ball. Here's my specs:

My guess to why the anomalies is that they probably have a faulty battery controller installed because there is NO WAY that they could have 5000 mAh more than everyone else but otherwise their battery would have to be much bigger than ours and also would be extremely volatile. Either that or they're talking BS.

only had my macpro a few weeks a nd it's my first mac, so I don't know how to calibrate....

Here's mine, 60 cycles and going strong, can get 5 hours easy using the 9600... I've calibrated 4 or 5 times since I got this 17" in May:D (yes three weeks before the 'new' mid 09s, I don't care about the .2ghz bump as mine was a replacement by applecare; RIP lil' SR 2.4 17:()
