Yes! And it's a un problem for me. When I have money.... I buy an iPod...:( And I can't stop..

It's pretty bad once you start, all I ever do is look for my next iPod purchase when I am out and about. I think I am going to gather and post some pictures of iPod collections I have seen on Flickr!

P.S. - I just bought an iPad and don't even get to play with it!!

I think the earliest I have is U2145XXXXX, and the earliest I have ever came across is week 44..

I bought another 1st gen iPod off eBay because I became afraid of taking my 1G out in public for fear I'd drop it or lose it. I only bought the unit itself with no original packing material or anything like that for this one (I truly bought it to USE) so it was only about $50. It's not in bad shape, has a chip on the headphone port but it still works just fine.

Anyway I recalled the serial number discussion earlier and this one is a U2229XXXXXX (May). Which has to make this one of the last of the 1st Gen's produced as the 2nd gen ones were released in July of 2002 I believe.

It's great to see all of these new collections popping up. We're all very diseased :)

1st Gen?

Sorry to say this, but thats no 1st gen ipod. Your ipod was produced week 29, which equals to july, not may (approx 52 weeks in a year, right?).

Your ipod is either M8513LL/B (Mac) or M8697LL/A (Windows). Check the "about" info on your ipod, maybe it is stated.

Well he could have a 10GB iPod 1st gen. model number M8709LL/A. This would still be a first generation that was produced until July of 2002.

"A 10 GB "Scroll Wheel" (M8709LL/A) model was introduced March 21, 2002 and discontinued July 17, 2002"

Whoops I was using 22 not 29.

However I am quite positive it is a 1st gen body and style as I said I already have a 1st gen iPod in my collection with all original materials. The model matches my other one. It also has a physical scroll wheel, no size distinction, and the serif font that only the 1st gen has. The serial number on the back also matches the electronic one in the about screen so it's not a piece together. I am away on vacation but when I get back I will post a picture.

I seem to recall them continuing to sell the physical wheel model even after they released the new version.

I dont think so. Im most likely not going to keep it and am just going to resell it for more.

I always buy the iPods with that intention but I always end up keeping them once I get them! I just bought a 2nd gen nano, 2ng gen shuffle, and a 1st gen touch for $50!

P.S.- I just found those stands that MattyMac was selling on ebay!

Collection

I recently sold my collection. Made a chunk of change. Very happy. Didn't find collecting appealing anymore after the ipod touch came out.

What did you have and how much did you sell them for? (If you don't mind me asking!)

I can't really be the only one still actively collecting, can I?

I'm still collecting.
I bought a refurbished 1st Gen 5GB the other day from Australia. I know that it isn't going to be worth as much because it's refurbished but I wanted one with the iPod and box in perfect condition.
I'm also trying to get all of the 2nd Gen iPod mini's in their different colours. I currently have a Blue, Pink/Purple & a Silver which was my very first iPod and the only one i've ever bought from a shop (i think it cost about £150!!).

Yes, I'm also curious how many were in your collection and roughly how much you sold it for.

As some of you already know, there's some guy on eBay selling his collection of 12 iPods (nothing special about any of them) for $12,000. He's re-listed every time, rejecting over 20 offers. (BTW, did any offer for this specific auction?).

But all of this raises an interesting question about the value (monetary, since we all have subjective or sentimental values that differ) of such an iPod collection.

As promised pictures of my two 1st Gen iPods. If it's a knock-off it's the best knock-off I've ever seen :) The only thing that is different between the two is the amperage rating. I also called Apple and they confirmed record of serial number.

I blurred out the last numbers of the serial number

I dont have my 1st gens ipods available right now, but maybe youll find the model number if you check in the about screen in the menus? If not you can connect it to itunes, and see if modelnumber shows up.

What did klantenservice say about the ipods? I do think you have a 2nd gen ipod, either for windows, or mac (M8513LL/B (Mac)/M8697LL/A (Windows)).

Its not a knockoff, the exterior is identical to the first gen, but the mainboard looks different, and they were shipped in a different boxes then the first gen.
