I cant believe my eyes to see that the sealed iPods' prices are skyrocketing on eBay. I just saw last night a 20GB iPod U2 that doesnt have any color LCD on it sold for nearly $1200. Just for comparison, I bought 2 of these back in 2008 for approx. $200 each.

I had the original spinwheel iPod. Let one of Russian friends borrow it and got stolen along the rest of her purse... was long time ago. Those iPods were great, especially the FireWire. USB is awful.

i wouldn't call myself a collector, but i have owned/own some iPods;

CURRENT:
iPod Classic 120gb silver
iPod Nano 7th gen 8gb silver - due to the iPod Nano 1st generation replacement program

BROKEN/SOLD ON:
iPod Nano 2nd generation pink 4gb
iPod Nano 3rd generation pink 8gb

and my family also have a 4th gen iPod shuffle 2gb green, a white iPhone 4, 4th generation iPod Nano Pink 16gb

i miss my 2gb black first gen, my first ever nano, but it sparked at me when i charged it.. i want an ipod mini, i've always had a thing about that model and the ipod with the 4 led buttons..

try and go for the nano's first.manly the 5th gen cause people are pricing them too high now but you can find one really cheap.i found one for $50 but offered him $65.00.i see many go up to $399 or even more.so for the 5th gen ano cause that is the best nano ever.

The 5th gen is my least fav because of that stupid camera that sucked and couldn't even take still pics and the resolution was crap and forget about trying to watch anything you shot with it on your tv or computer in full screen. On the other hand it did have a big screen so if you did like to watch movies it had that going for it, but then again imo it was trying to hard to be something it's not. Just my two bits about that sorry to rant guys.

iPod nano 6th gen (8gb)
iPod shuffle 1th gen (512mb)
iPod shuffle 4th gen (2gb)

:apple:

Not much of a collection, but I wanted to contribute something to this nice thread.

My iPods (From left to right; top to bottom):

iPod touch (second-generation)(8GB)
iPod shuffle (fourth-generation)
iPod nano (sixth-generation)(8GB)
iPod touch (fourth-generation)(8GB)

I want to buy an iPod classic eventually. I just have to justify the purchase... to myself. Got a lot of iPods already, although the iPod classic is appealing to me for more reasons than one.

Sorry man,
Thats definitely a refurb. Your ipod was produced in 2006! Its a first generation, but sold 4 years later as new! Your ipod is only 3.5 years old.
From klantenservice:
Serial number: GQ62104XML1
Name: iPod (First generation)
Model: M8709 iPod 10GB Generation=1
Group1: iPod
Group2: nothing
Generation: 1
ModelCode: ipod
Colour: White
Capacity: 10GB
Factory: GQ (Remanufactured Model = Refurbished (ipod))
External link: Technical specifications by apple-history.com
Model introduced: 2001
Production year: 2006
Production week: 21 (May)
Production number: 167 (within this week)

If it's a refurbished iPod then I think it can still be one of the real 1st Gens? The link at http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/apple_certified.html says that a refurbished product "is given a new refurbished part number and serial number.".

Here's my collection of sealed iPods. Only the 1st and 2nd gen are opened. Everything else is still sealed in its original box with plastic wrap or seal.

P.S. Looking for 4th gen color/photo 60gb. The one with the black box w/o "photo" written on it.

Wow! Thats an amazing looking collection. You must have worked hard to get them all.
The older cardboard boxes are so much more interesting than the new plastic ones. Although the plastic ones look nice they just don't have the same charm as the different coloured older ones.
The only one that is a bit of a let down is the black and white 3G box.

Forgive me for asking
About sealed boxes; how do you know its not a fake? Isn't a market for that as well?

iPod 4G box question

I figured you guys would know..

I am trying to find an iPod 4G on eBay and I am getting confused. I collect iPods and look for them with their boxes. The 4G iPod, black and white, from what I have seen, came in a box with the colored background with black silhouette dancers. The iPod 4G Photo came with a box that had a close up picture of the iPods screen with pictures on it. But I have seen some for sale with solid black boxes with silver lettering saying "iPod, xxGB, Mac+PC". Are these legit boxes?

Yes. Those black boxes with silver fonts are legit. These boxes are for iPod photo as far as I know. Hope that helps

Ok thanks! That's what I was thinking. I see one black and white 4G and one Photo 4G for sale with these boxes. I think one of them is not the original box. But I'm not sure which.

Macfrik: I see one that I am talking about in your collection, is that a color or black and white 4G?

You can always ask the seller to confirm that the serial number on the back of the iPod matches the serial number on the box. That should confirm it for you. Any decent seller will confirm this for you. I always used to ask that questions before I bought an iPod on ebay. My collecting days are over though.

Good idea. I will ask that! Thanks!!

I dont have my 1st gens ipods available right now, but maybe youll find the model number if you check in the about screen in the menus? If not you can connect it to itunes, and see if modelnumber shows up.

What did klantenservice say about the ipods? I do think you have a 2nd gen ipod, either for windows, or mac (M8513LL/B (Mac)/M8697LL/A (Windows)).

Its not a knockoff, the exterior is identical to the first gen, but the mainboard looks different, and they were shipped in a different boxes then the first gen.

Are you talking about the 2 ipods mentioned?

I have a question for you veteran iPod collectors. My favorite color is red, and I have been trying to get the Product Red iPods of any version that they come in. It seems like they sell for way more on eBay then they did new, with seller saying "Rare", when these were easy to come by when new. I just got a good deal on an Orange 16GB 5th generation iPod Nano, but now I see a Red 8GB 5th generation for sale for about $20 more then I paid for the Orange one with double the space. I'm debating selling the 16GB orange one and buying the Red one. I'm just not sure if I should bother collecting all Product Red iPods, or just collect different colors to make my collection shelf look more interesting. Any thoughts?
