I went from XS Max to 11 Pro and literally everything about it is better. Build quality, screen quality, audio quality, speed, and game-changing battery life.

Oh, then there's this camera. Better detail, better HDR, better telephoto, additional wide angle lens, capture outside the frame feature, better video stabilization, higher quality 60fps 4K capture, wider selfies (really handy for groups which I do more often than I care to admit), and game-changing night mode... and we still haven't seen how much better it will get with deep fusion.

Personally I think this is the most satisfied I've been with upgrading in a long time.

for a "pro" i'm not seeing a jump in quality. in fact some of the photos look better on the xs. i'm hoping the 2020 will be an actual upgrade not an "ss" model like this year.

I don’t care about the camera. I would upgrade if the phone was thinner and lighter. Not interested in an iCamera, want an iPhone. It would be nice if the volume and power button were not opposite each other so every time you try to turn off the phone it doesn’t take a screen shot.

Fair enough about what you’d like, but for the last part, I think learning to hold the phone differently would be a good idea. The button placement isn’t an issue. If you’re finding it hard to push the sleep wake button down (where you need to pinch the phone), try a softer case. You shouldn’t need to pinch the case at the top.

I’m not at all clear from these samples that the Pro is better at all, let alone better enough to upgrade for all but the most scrutinizing photographers. And those folks think these pics all suck anyway.

it's clearly better in the low-light scenarios, but that's about it. and honestly, as an amateur photographer - there isn't a smartphone out there that can replace real optics.

I guess I’m a crazy person then.
I’m not a filmmaker. That makes me crazy I presume.

You both are. Once the 'glitter' wears off you will see that it won't feel much different except the money you threw out the window. :) Its your business of course but I think people who update yearly are totally insane (unless its the US program that you get it by default).
:)

Exactly what i did last week and i'm not disappointed.

I had went to the store and played around with the 11 P.M. and was expecting to be blown away at the camera-I was not. The wide angle is a cool feature but the screen, speed, picture quality-minus low light-all seemed almost identical to the XS Max. Not sure if it's just Apple but each years upgrades are becoming very minimal.

Uh..yeah no, these images might look fine on a small screen like the iphone but has anybody really looked at pictures produced by these phones on a larger display? I don't understand how people can judge the quality of a photo on a tiny 4.7 inch display. I can't believe people are spending so much money and buying into the belief that somehow they are buying a quality camera but then again if you are just going to be looking at the pictures on a 4.7 inch phone display who cares. Macrumors lets see the full uncompressed images please?

I am looking at them on a 32" 4K monitor. My opinion stands.

The problem with these camera comparisons is they don't separate the hardware from the software. How about comparing the raw files taken by other camera apps such as Lightroom? This would separate the hardware differences from the software processing that Apple's camera app does.

Having the UW option is nice. As far as "real" cameras go, I agree - but there are lots of times when the phone is in my pocket and the camera is a long way away. In those cases, the best camera is the one you have with your right now.

naturally. although i've never been able to achieve the kind of results that they advertise just on a whim :)

so i tested in store compared to XS and visual video quality is much better but really disappointed that IMO XS microphone quality was way better. it had a wide, rich stereo field, and new 11 PRO with audio zooming makes everything sound so narrow and mono (yes i made sure stereo recording is on)

The cameras are amazing. A big jump. Biggest I can remember in quite a while on the phones. Much bigger than the jump from 7 to X or X to Xs. If you are in to photos, or even if you are not and you want the camera to "just work" and take great pics, then the 11 Pro won't let you down. Night mode is really nice too. Photos don't look forced, they just look lit as you would expect if there was more light. I noticed you can also use it kind of like night vision goggles in that if you walk down a dark street while holding it up, it builds a much more lit up view of what's ahead.

Have not noticed any issues with the mics, but haven't been on the other end. Will test. I use the iPhone for language practice and when I speak even very quietly in Spanish for practice, it get's it right every single time.
Also, the audio output is amazing with the Dolby Atmos and even just regular playback of sounds, alarms, music, phone calls on speaker. This is the first iPhone I can ever remember where it is so loud, I actually have to turn it down. So it's nice to be able to have as much volume as one needs for any situation.

Battery life is amazing. Real world example iPhone 11 Pro: I woke up at 5 am, went off charger, did a little browsing, did a 45 minute run with the Nike Run app, checked traffic and weather, listened to music while commuting one hour on the train, practiced Spanish for 15 minutes, did some other light web browsing, viewed my Ring cameras and used authenticator apps. It's now Noon and I still have 77%.

To me the battery life and camera improvements are well worth the upgrade.

Agree, mostly. Recently my best results have been using the camera via Lightroom. “Computational” tools like night mode may change some of that.

This is a low light picture taken in my XS Max about an hour ago. More than happy with it.

it’s normal updates for me. I, for one, also welcome the ultra wide lens for some of the work that I do.
