I hate the 10X zoom on my iPhone 11pro. I am loath to use it as I know the quality is going to be poor. Clearly, both phones take great pictures, at the end of the day it's up to you the photographer to know what your phone's strengths are and how to exploit them. I wish Apple had put a 5X zoom on the phone rather than a 2X zoom. I would have found that very useful. Still the video capabilities are 1st class.

Samsung and all the others can come up with whatever amazing hardware they like. The bottom line is I feel a lot more secure using Apple. But I am very impressed by Huawei. If they can come up with a better alternative to Google to beat Trump's ban then I would be very tempted, since their camera system is very impressive for a phone, not to mention 5G.

I agree, in both photo's and Video I prefer virtually all of the iPhone images.
Apple just needs to do a little more tweaking to fix the weak areas, and they have it.

It's amazing how the functionality of the phone has shifted from a voice/communication device and now into an all in one device. Instead of Camera quality, which is in my opinion is fine (for the most part), i think Apple and Samsung should be focusing more about durability, security and longevity issues of its devices. Dont get me wrong its great it has 2-3-4-5 (and god knows when it will end) number of cameras, but there are more pressing issues for each of the phones than camera quality. And if phone size really matters, just put cellular service on an iPad Mini and Be done.

Surely most of this is moot - the camera modules are neither made by Apple nor Samsung (it's often Sony, or someone else) and they supply most big brands so the captured data should be almost identical.

All we're really comparing is the software processing afterwards. Meh.

Device longevity is fine.

I easily get 5 years out of my Apple mobile devices (and closer to 10 for Macs) and they are sold at the end, or recycled - it's all about looking after them, which is where most people show no respect for their property.

Nothing lasts forever and it's silly to think these devices will. If that bothers people so much, I suggest they use pencil & paper, or just look after things better.

Skin tone looks more healthy on the Samsung while Apple has more of a hepatitis color.
Adjust your monitor, the color tones are equal for me, the Samsung picture looks a little "beautified", but maybe the author wasn't wrinkling his brow.

Samsung is releasing 8K TV sets. Using these smartphones people will be able to watch 8K videos at home. We'll see how well it works.
And another $1500 for memory to store the videos? Other than short clips, not useful

I really liked the feel of the regular sized S20 in my hands. But that's not coming to Verizon because it doesn't support the right 5g bandwidth (not that it matters, I can't even get 3g reliably in many places where I live with AT&T or Verizon)

I'd consider an iPhone again just for the ease of replacing a battery down the line.

One for every home.

The cameras consist of both the physical module and computations and it's the final output that's important here, irrespective of which part each of the two played. Computational photography is huge and is what makes the photos as good as they are. It's intrinsic to phone cameras, and not a cheat or something to be overlooked.

Here is my own personal "game changer idea" for when cell phone cameras will hit the "next level"...… Put the optics running the width of the phone, which allows the camera lenses and optics at least 2.25" inches to work with, instead of just 5/8" of an inch....

Give me a call, Apple, and I might let you use my idea.... for a cost, of course!!

Yeah, 8k on a smartphone, let alone a camera is kinda pointless right now. Especially with the crop factor & lack of stabilzation.
As if a smartphone with a 108 MP cameras isn’t also pointless? This is the kludge you make when all you care about is a spec war. And although 30x zoom is cool, it isn’t optical. It’s some trick called “hybrid optic zoom” which relies a little on the lens and a lot on cropping on the sensor. But since people care about the number of “x” and the number of “MP” it’s a Sammy win.

I actually prefer the Samsung results, even the nightmode shot. And Samsung zoom, like last years Huawei, is fantastic.
But is isolation you would not notice the difference. Both are good.

Not correct. Samsung designs and manufactures its own camera sensors. They use Sony sensors too. The 108MP sensor is produced by Samsung (I do not know about the other sensors in S20 phones)

I am sure some Apple fans will like this model. Others may settle for Q800T: 65 ($3,500), 75 ($5,000), 82 ($7,000) inches
The point is to display 8K you have to spend at least $3,500. I was sure some android fans would also like that model, who would also spend $1400 on a phone.

Pictures are a tie. Video goes to iPhone. Zoom to Samsung. So basically, the iPhone holds its own in most cases at 6 months old, and far less “impressive” specs. Kudos to Samsung, however, for pushing the tech forward with that impressive zoom.

oh i agree. And i applaud apple for not getting caught up in the megapixel race. It is ridiculous on a smartphone.

It's not pointless. Extra resolution is a big bonus for computational photography.
