I sent my iphone 14 pro max back. The camera would not zoom and focus. And when i started the camera up, it took a while. Zero signal on Verizon 5G where my 13 pro was fine. When it did work, I tested the 5g and was getting 2MB down. Would not download a image. My 13 Pro on 5g was much better in the same spot. Now the battery. I watched the battery meter drop from a full charge while popping email. Very disappointing. Would not make it through the day. My 13 pro holds a better charge. If and when they fix these issues, I may buy another. Till then, I stick with what works.
You definitely got a dud. Mine has absolutely no problems.

this photo you took is AMAZING! I'd love to be able to download a full version to use as a wallpaper. Do you post on any photo forums or anything like that?
send me an inbox with your email and I can send you the raw edited one

What video improvements are we talking about here?

They claim their sensor-shift OIS is better but it looks the same to me maybe a hair better. I couldn't care less about that gimmicky 4K Cinematic Mode or Action Mode since I'm not a maniac shooting video while running.
I wonder how it would look on a DJI gimbal while runnin cinematic mode lol..... super smooth? or messed up.

The 48MP ProRaw images have made me see why people buy cameras like the 45MP Canon R5. I always thought they were overkill. Being able to zoom in so much and retain such detail is kind of magical. With the iPhone though, it's a little mushy. The sensor being so small and all.
Zooming in it's really noticeable- but in most shots (especially if doing landscape photography), would someone really notice the difference between ProRAW images from a 13 Pro and a 14 Pro?

Yet my 14 PM has been working perfectly since I received it two weeks ago. It's an outstanding phone.

In my testing, the major difference and improvement with the 14 Pro Max is in indoor and low light photos, especially with people. Whereas with the 13PM the exposure time used to be stretched out resulting in less than sharp images (a major disappointment compared to my previous pixel) - the 14PM takes them rapidly and thr images are sharp.

Also, there’s a middle ground for 48MP images if you dont want to post process ProRAW. Use Halide or Procam 8 and you can save a 48MP capture straight to HEIC. Image files are 3-5MB and significantly sharper/clearer in crops compared to the standard 12MP HEIC out of the native camera. I wish Apple added this as an option to the native camera.

It's a nice incremental improvement, but aside from 2x zoom and action mode, nothing earth shattering. I suspect the periscope lens rumored for iPhone 15 Pro Max (Ultra) will be the next big thing.
I’ve been using the action mode just to get 1440p. A resolution I’ve always wanted in there. It’s like 2 features in one.

I see a lot more detail in the 14's grass.

Ultra looks like a brick 🧱 in the hand. Seeing it in side angle, what a brick it is. All reviews showed the watch from top.

It's manageable - if you really need the (vast) resolution advantage the 48 Mixel ProRAW mode provides, you will learn to live with the sluggishness of transfer / edit / export. I have.

And, of course, ProRAW, even in 12 Mpixels "only", also allows for avoiding the oversharpening in the stock HEIC / JPG photos otehrwise exported by iPhone.
Yes, but many people won’t, that’s why they won’t benefit the 48MP. I got plenty of friends who doesn’t even know what ProRAW is in their iPhone. I am sure they bought the new iPhone and expected the image to be 48MP right out of the box…..
I think iPhone users who are into photography will. That's why I ordered my iPhone 14 PM with 512 GB.
yes of course, I for one got the 1TB.

The average user will think that it shoots 48MP photos out of the box due to Apple's marketing when in reality it's binning down to the regular 12MP.

So the average user won't ever use it consciously or know what ProRAW even means.
Exactly.

Upgrading from the 11 Pro (which I think was pretty solid camera) to the 14 Pro is an amazing jump! No need to change the phones every year, but a three year jump is pretty big!

Yup. However, for example panoramas have NOT been improved from the 11 series, despite the FAR more capable hardware :( I've posted a LOT on these issues in these two threads:

And now for some bad news guys: good-light panorama quality NOT AT ALL improved in the last three years - on the contrary: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...the-last-three-years-on-the-contrary.2361607/

Low-light panorama tests: iPhone 11 vs. iPhone 14 Pro (Max) - wellwellwell...: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...11-vs-iphone-14-pro-max-wellwellwell.2362051/

And in good light, the HEIC / JPEG output isn't better either. (But noone seriously shooting should use the oversharpened, cr@appy HEIC / JPEG output of iPhones...)

I'm surprised how MacRumors compared the PQ between 13 Pro vs. 14 Pro;

there are a few points that need to be clear:
1. increasing the Megapixel DOES NOT improve the overall PQ. (megapixel is for corp and print image; the more megapixel, the larger print size allows without losing details.
2. there are multiple consideration factors to determine a PQ, not just looking at the color, contrast, etc. Taking a compressed pic and viewing it on a 6.1 or 6.7" screen is not a way to compare PQ; PQ should be considered in 100% resolution, then looks at the details, color, highlights, contracts, dynamic ranges, etc. There is no point comparing a compressed pic on a 6.1 or 6.7" screen; the details won't be viewable on that size without enlarging it.
3. the 48 megapixels taken in ProRaw format are not for the everyday user, especially the user taking a picture and then posting it on social media. The social media platform will reformat the pic quality to match their hosting/storage capacity. e.g. FB, you can upload a High Quality (resolution) pic to your page, but FB will compress it for optimized viewing. The target audience for using 48M pixel is photography that needs to edit the picture in Adobe suite and print it out.

Therefore, I am unsure of the purpose of comparing the camera and/or PQ difference. You will not be impressed by a picture viewing on limited screen size, and regardless of whether it is a 12M or 48M, or 100M, the details won't be noticeable.

I took this using proraw at 48mp and edited with lightroom and back to jpg and the detail is epic, I’m a photographer using canon 5D mark iv and I’m so impressed, I do wish there was an option to take a raw and normal one at the same time like on dslr
I'm doing this on Halide on my 14 Pro. Some of the third party apps offer more options for using 48MP than the iOS native camera app.

When I first got the iPhone 14 Pro, there happened to be a car show so I thought, why not? I like classic cars and I do use a Nikon Z sometimes to photograph them and other times an iPhone, but I don't work at getting the perfect shot. It's just for grins and giggles - historical photos for me.

So, I was taking a bunch of pictures and then went to sit down and went to look at them and WOW! These were amazingly awesome! Holy crap the details!!!!

I even used the copy function on the photo to pop the car - pasted it into a message to my friend and he went gaga. He updated his phone iPhone XR so he could do that, too. I even did the same to his car. I think it did a fantastic job - I could clean up what it didn't do.

They're okay

A few things I noticed since upgrading from an iPhone 11 Pro Max:
The ultra wide lens does better in night mode.
The 3X zoom is welcomed, most of my photos are taken in that mode.
Obviously the screen is smaller now and several apps are crippled by the smaller screen in zoom mode.
Really don't notice that much improvement at 120 Hz so I turned that off.
App performance is almost identical to my 11.
Battery life is significantly less.
Start up time is faster by 4x.
5G can be a little bit faster than LTE than my rural location.
Cellular is working a little better where iOS 15 on my 11 I would have to toggle that several times a day to regain access.
Less screen dimming than my 11, thermals are definitely improved but as soon as I put it on my car Qi charger is it dims almost immediately.
Dictation is even more inaccurate than ever.
Always on is a nice gimmick but doesn't really have real world application yet.
There seems to be a bug with Apple Pay and certain debit cards coming up with errors saying the expiration date is incorrect even after deleting and re-adding cards.
GPS is still wonky.
Even with 6 GB of RAM apps reload every time I switch to them.
The new button locations are a bother, either the volume is up all the way or I take all these screen snapshot or Siri is waiting for me to say something.
Also noticed that when I pull it out of my pocket it's always in customize mode on the lock screen, it would be better if they had a two finger gesture to enter that mode.
Is it just me or every time I swipe up on my 14 Pro it always misinterpreted it as a swipe left so I have to swipe up on the side of the screen so it correctly registers.

I agree with everything you say which is why I returned my new and fancy 14 Pro Max and went back to my old but trusty XS-Max.
The battery life on the 14 Pro Max was horrible and I was constantly getting disconnected phone calls.
I couldn’t care less about the camera on the 14 and simply put, everything in the XS-Max just works.
I can’t even tell the difference between it and my wife’s 13 Pro photos.
Maybe the 15 will have fewer issues and I’m ready to switch phones but it won’t be until I see that I am clearly getting a better product than the XS-Max I currently have and use all day with no dropped phone calls and battery at 50-60% left when I got to bed at night.
Only think I miss from the 14 is the always on screen but I’ll survive.

I tried to do the same thing. T-Mobile said I have 14 days to return mine. Went back to the store two days later and they said they I can't get my old phone back and I can't return the 14.
I called Apple about this and they were perplexed why they couldn't give me my phone back. Now I'm stuck. o_O

Odd. With my 14 PM I need to recharge after 2-3 days of regular use. On my 12 Pro it was every day.

My 14 PM is an outstanding phone. Rock solid phone calls, much better cameras, faster, greater battery capacity, and better sound.
