As a photographer who’s iPhone has now replaced their main camera(especially for travel), I will finally be upgrading my iPhone 11 Pro Max to the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Looking forward to all the improvements like the 48 megapixel wide lens, the larger sensors, the 7 element tele lens & the 8k video recording. The rumored telescoping tele lens of the iPhone 15 would have been nice too. But all the other advances of the iPhone 14 Pro Max over my 11 Pro Max make it a worthy upgrade. I just love the convenience of having such a powerful & versatile camera always in my pocket. It has changed my photography for the better.

I may be in the minority, but as an artist who travels with his iPad Pro for drawing, I wish you could use the Apple Pencil on the iPhone 14 Pro as well. Not a biggie, but would enjoy the ability to make quick sketches on my iphone in a pinch. Also wish the iPhone 14 Pro was getting USB-C. That would be one less cable to pack. But it looks like lightning is here to stay for awhile on the iPhones. You really can’t complain tho. It’s truly amazing just how much creative tech Apple packs into these small devices.

I'm wondering if the 48mp camera will have an "always bin" setup option. For almost all needs, 12mp is more than enough.

I’d settle for any camera that isn’t permanently accessible from the lock screen by those without login credentials. Yes it’s a tenuous link to the article but I’ll mention it at any possible opportunity since Apple’s total silence on this issue is becoming highly suspicious.
Out of curiosity, why is this an issue? And why is it suspicious that apple aren’t acknowledging this- I would never have thought of this as a problem

I don’t understand why they don’t just make the back casing and internal battery larger to remove the bump. Everyone here would be making fun of and trashing an android phone if they did that. How can someone sit here and say that Apple makes elegant products with a humpback sticking out making the product wobble?
Because the phones are already quite heavy and a lot of people wouldn't want it to become even heavier for an improvement to battery life because battery life is already good enough for most people. Besides that, a phone with a bump is easier to pick up from a flat surface and most people probably don't really care that much.

I personally don't understand the hate against the camera bump - I don't think it looks bad and if it means better cameras then I will accept any size camera bump (within reason obviously!).

Maybe not with the default camera app but I'd bet third party apps will support that. The question is though whether pixel binning in good lighting conditions has any benefits?

Not much in good light, but there would be some. I just don't personally, for my use cases, want to store 48mp files of general stuff that I'll take a pic of now and then.

I have an iPhone 12 and won't be upgrading until the next iPhone has:

  • Even better low light performance
  • Notchless
  • USB-C
  • Under screen touch ID (nice to have)

I think you're going to be waiting a while for all four of those. Especially the last three.

14 megapixels is ancient, there are phones with 60-70 mp cameras now that cost half as much, why aren’t Apple targeting a photography market and having mirror less lenses on their phones.

Literally why does this matter? In what way could someone being able to take a photo on your iPhone harm you? Non issue

And will Apple give third party apps access to it. In middle of the road light situations would be nice if you could snap both nearly simultaneously so you'd be able to compare the two.

All these nice phone camera advancements and yet we still cannot control aperture or exposure without adjusting the shutter speed in bright light. Its fine for photos but not for video.

The most basic of exposure tools is still missing leaving us without smooth motion in our outdoor videos. This will forever separate cell phone video from professional camera video until this is solved.

Maybe for those shooting 60p its not as big of a deal but it is for those of us shooting 24p. If Apple wants to really be taken seriously as a film makers camera they need to come up with a solution. External manual variable ND filters are not a great solution for everyone either.

Easy. Because as a photographer who uses an iPhone as my main camera, I don't want a thicker and heavier iPhone.

I'm far more interested in performance, features, and quality.

If you're more interested in aesthetics over the above, I'm sure you can find a phone camera from another manufacturer that meets your needs.

Apple can only polish a turd so much. The camera is awful, in my opinion, compared to competitors. It is disappointing to see this. But 48mp will be welcomed.

I would love to see a iOS and MacOS feature that allows users to connect their iPhones/iPad and Macs to allow for streaming, video recording, lectures (skillshare), etc... relatively easy.

There are third party apps available, but I would like to see Apple start prioritizing those features much in the way sidecar and universal control has sort of taken the place of Duet Display (sort of).

Especially for creatives in traditional arts (oil painting, markers, mixed media, etc..) who want to teach online. Being able to do a quick setup with what's available on hand would be great, especially without having to buy all this extra equipment or software. You could hit the ground running with what you have, and slowly expand 🤔

I work as a videographer and I can’t believe there is any kind of demand for 8k video on a consumer phone/camera like the iPhone. That’s really odd to me. Maybe it’s just a “the hardware can do it, might as well make it an option?”

At my work, we don’t even necessarily need to submit videos we create in 4k. A lot of what we do is still 1080p.

I actually use my iPhone from time to time to get b-roll footage… currently using a 12 Pro. I’ll be interested to see if the 14 Pro is worth the update with the other video features. I guess just cleaner/better looking video is what I’m after (12 Pro can look really great depending on what you are capturing).

As you undoubtedly know, smartphone cameras that shoot at max 4K often shoot poor to mediocre quality 4K, whereas the 1080p may be OK.

I don’t have a smartphone capable of 8K video recording, but I’m hoping the new 8K-capable iPhones will have significantly improved 4K video recording.

Anyhow, I won’t be buying now. I’ll likely be getting an iPhone 14 Plus to replace my wife’s iPhone XR, unless the pricing on the iPhone 14 Pro Max is favourable (unlikely). However, in two years I may replace my iPhone 12 Pro Max with an iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The solution in post #28 disables the camera completely on the iPhone. Not a great solution. No other options are on offer, though.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max will need the two TB storage option for the ever increasing image sizes and movie sizes. The image sizes are going to require the USB-C connection so images can ALL be downloaded the same day.....
