I don't see where nutjob suggested that was any better...

Get a life!

Any successful charismatic genius eventually gets a cult following. Sometimes these hardcore fans are the butt of jokes from the actual production crew.

There was an interview years ago with Will Wheaton who played Wesley Crusher in "Star Trek: The Next Generation." He hid the fact very hard that he was hardcore Star Trek fan since early childhood since it was considered a strike against him when he was auditioning for that role.

Also, there is this urban legend that one guy was interviewing at Apple in Cupertino years ago during Scully era. He flashed his Apple logo tattoo during the interview process. That ended it for him right there.

Been said, the charismatic genius wants competent professionals and not fan boys. Fan boys run user groups and sometimes accessory companies but not in corporate central.

Wow, this thread is full of haters, just some of the most vitriolic statements I've ever witnessed on these forums. Lighten up.

Seriously! The guy has honest intentions and is nice enough to explain his motives. Would you rather it be a group of ten people who plan to eBay them the second they get their hands on them, or some guy that doesn't have much else to do that really likes Apple and has a legacy with the store?

a week of camping in front of the Apple store.. what a great vacation ..after ten years.. lol  sorry

for this guy's sake, i hope he doesn't go into some kind of debilitating seizure on thursday, right before opening time, because, as crazy as everyone thinks he is, it would suck

Pathetic.. I would be afraid of meeting anyone who sleeps in a tent for over a week just to buy a mobile some hours or days earlier than we do.. Sad also

Oddly most communities have a crowd where science-fiction / fantasy conventions, anything "period" that is an excuse to wear costume and to be the first in line for a movie is about the same scene. I'm sure most of these know each other well and they will all be taking turns for food runs, bathroom breaks and some of those tents will be, ah, "busy" for those few with a sex life.

Is that even legal?

In the UK I'd imagine the police would make you leave.

Hate speech is free speech and I will never accept "love" forced down my throat to silence me. You don't like this thread, plenty of other Internet out there.

"I do not work due to the fact I am disabled with a seizure disorder"

I dont mean to sound insensitive, but wow. Too disabled to work, but not so disabled that you can't setup a tent and camp out for a week in the Texas heat in June?

Dude, I know guys in wheelchairs that can set up tents.

But can't work due to their disability?

Is he for real? his phone is reserved there is no point in him sitting in line. the only reason i can think of is attention.

Joining the "Of course he can work" crew.

If he can safely spend a week in the sun without medical attention, he could do an office job.

In the USA, the legality of camping out overnight on a street for a product release totally varies from community to community. Some don't allow it. Some require a permit or local police notification and some let it happen in parking lots but not side walks.

It usually comes down to how civil the crowd is as they wait. I have seen overnight rock concert ticket lines dispersed due to some of the crowd getting too rowdy. In general, as long as the line doesn't interfere with the nearby merchants and they are civil, it is typically allowed.

People are making fun of his disability and I question the lack of a job and you pile on me?

Real smooth.

How is anyone here making fun of his disability? There's a difference between questioning a disability and making fun of one.

Yes but there are also rules about being rude on forums... free speech means nothing on the forums...

I pick up a bit of frustration that some in this list will not be the "first kid on their block" for the iPhone 4. But there are also legitimate complaints are being made for those that are IMO wasting a week in line just to be first. At times, I swear Apple works this way to impress stockholders.
